Hi,
I am new to the POS industry and have a small corp that have set up in low sec space several jumps from a refining station. What I would like to know is how you have organised the refining of ore from several different people who mine sometimes as a group but also individually?
I have the appropriate refine skills but have great difficulty in tracking who has 'given' me what ores to refine and also to maximise the large refinery would like to have full refine amount if possible. So far I am handling the group mines easily with a basic spreadsheet but have no way of tracking when others add ore to corp hangar arrays (I cannot give each player a hangar for their own as there are too many) when I am not online.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Edited by: Hatch on 09/01/2006 14:24:32 If your going to refine at a pos in low sec space where there isn't a station around, it is best to mine only one type of ore and refine it. ie mine out all the hemorphite in the system and refine, go back through mine out all the omber, refine, mine out all kernite and refine, and so on. your refine array can only do one ore type at a time and depending on which one you have, only gives you 75%. if there is a station in the system, it would be better to do it there.
instead of trying to keep track of who has done what, make ore put into the pos hangars corp ore. if members what to mine for thier own, have them refine at a station.

If I am following what you want to doà try this:
Depending on how many members you need to support and if you trust them with the offline/online starbase role..
Have each member that wants to refine at the base shell out for a corp hanger array of there own. itÆs 10 or 20 million (I canÆt remember atm) and a small price to pay for this ability. (if they donÆtÆ like it tell em to haul it an npc station 20 jumps away)
Then anchor each hanger array around the station but keep em offline. Place a secure cargo can above each hanger with the name of the member on it and itÆs status. Like ôJack û emptyö
When jack mines his ore but your off line, he takes all his ore.. onlines his array with his name over it (3 mins) then places his ore in it. Then offlines it. Then he changes the name of his secure can to ôJack û Bistotö
When you get home and log in.. you look over all the arrays (at the secure cans) .. you see Jack, Nancy and Tom all have Bistot in there arrays you online them, pull it out and refine it.. As you do so, change the names of the secure cans to say ôJack û Emptyö and then offline his array. Rinse and repeat
This might seem excessive at first.. but it works well and since CCP really doesnÆt give us the right tools to get this job done the right wayà this seems like one of the best ways it can be done. (atleast for us)
If this doesnÆt work maybe it will spark a few ideas for you that will.
Good luck, J¦

how do you put the secure can above the array? The game won't let me anchor within 35km of the tower... or do you mean unanchored cans? -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net

Corp hanger arrays are not that expensive, make people buy their own and haul it out to your POS if they want storage for their own personal ore.
I think you will find the people who are self sufficient, who are willing to provide their own corp hanger array are the type of people you will want in your corp. The people who expect their corp to provide them with a place to put their personal ore are also the people who will lose ships and want the corp to give them new ones, won't be able to fend for themselves out in 0.0 well, and generally will be a drain on your corporation.
Plus you will end up with lots of spare haulers around your POS which is always a good thing :)

Is it really true that the most you can refine at a POS refinery is 75%? I looked at the attributes of all 3 refineries and assumed it was the same deal as NPC stations, that with a 50% POS refinery I would get about 90.5% with my skills. Which would mean with a 75% POS refinery I wouldn't lose anything.
Is this not the case? And if not, what is the point of refining at a POS at all?

you get MAX 75% with perfect skill, you can only refine 1 type of ore ( scordite & consensed scordite are NOT the same things), you need a medium CT for a medium Intensive array (1h30 for 25 000 m3) or a large ct (3H for 200 000 m3) [BoBO Corp WebSite]

Yeah, I don't get the point then. That is really horrible efficiency for a 70 million isk installation. And the small one is just...ugh...

Many thanks for the ideas guys. I was hoping that there was some game mechanic I was unaware of but it looks like it is something I will have to wait for. I also agree that getting the members to haul a hangar array each (1 between 2 or 3 if they wanted) will be a good way to go.
My next question is if I offline a corp hangar array can you still store items in it, do they get jettisoned and will I be able to access the storage without onlining it (although the delay is only 3 minutes). My tower has some spare power but probably only able to get 2 hangars extra at a real push and they could stay online, drain on LO / HW is not that high.
In answer to the above replies on why refine at POS, if the nearest decent refinery is 6-7 jumps away through low sec space then it is much preferable to avoid potential ganking of the hauler and only haul to POS.

Edited by: Biddy on 10/01/2006 12:51:38 We have just setup a large pos and just started refining our own with a large refiner, yes it is only 75% - but we have around 8 - 10 people who will be using and then hauling the minerals back to empire, 75% is a bummer, but its stil the only way forward when you are mining the heavy ores as hauling them to a station x amount of jumps from where you are mining is a total nightmare = ie Iteron V for 5 expanded cargo 1's can only carry 1072 Crokite...
we have decided to live with the 75% and just mine like little mofo's =p
Each person involved has a hanger array and so far its working out quite well
