I'm sorry, but when the ship computer says "Unable to warp because you are warp scrambled." She makes it sound like it's a good thing, not "omg we are so gonna die!!" which is what she means.
Just something I noticed recently.

What do you think it would say?
OMG u n00b, ur 0wN3d!
It's a ship computer. If I fitted a computer to my ship I'd buy the one that is nice and accepting.

Its like in modern jets with the nagging betty. The voice says "pull up""pull up" in a nice smooth sweet sounding voice.

How about it saying:
You dumb noob, before you get back in another ship and kill us both, go back to flight school.

Personally I think it'd be cool if ship's AIs were interchangable and you could buy/sell/trade them. I'd kill for an AI that was good at making wisecracks at the current situation.

The computer voice is supposed to be a calm feminine one, because most pilots are men, and to hear a calm sweet voice it keeps them calm. Thats why its like that. If the voice was flipping out and ****, then obviously it wouldnt help much.

Instead of just changing voice or its altitude, it would be better to add such a nice voice to even more commands and events in the game. For example: 1. We are under attack - great for AFK players 2. You have new mail 3. Hull breaches on XXX levels - when hull hp is leaking 4. Shields, offline! - self describing 5. Enemy ship detected - when targeted by < 0 s.s. ship 6. We are being scanned - when officials are scanning your ship for illegal stuff, and of course there should be a message from officials if you're legal or not.
several configurable messages played as ogg sounds, activated with shortcuts.
and BEEP for private chat message instead of blinking when minimized

Its a shame we aren't able to edit the sounds stored in the stuff files and replace them with the old ones, i actually had the new voice on TQ before they had finished testing it on sisi because i just copied the stuff files.

I want one that sounds like the original Hithhikers guide to the Galaxy's android Marvin. Imagine it:
"I hate to tell you this but I think we're going to die".
At random times, it can come up with silly comments like: "Why do I get the feeling that I am being ignored?"

well tbh the only real solution i see here is for dev team make sounds fully customizable and tiable to loads and loads of events so you could go edit your sounds.ini, put tons of wav files to your /sounds/ directory and enjoy whatever madness you can think of.

It would be nice and won't load the server or take up room on the server. The only requirement would be for the player to have enough space for the wav files on their computer.

Edited by: KaylaKaze on 13/01/2006 05:24:34 Edited by: KaylaKaze on 13/01/2006 05:18:26 If the engine incorporated SAPI, you could have the computer use text to speech so it could say a much broader range of things, and, hopefully, install "phrase packs" that you can sell to other players or make your own. Each player cold use whatever SAPI compatible voice they prefer (and want to acquire).
Edit: Or, better yet, choose between using text-to-speech or a wav file for each event (though the wav files for a phrase pack would have to be acquired out of game).
I think the best thing any MMOG can do is make the game as customizable on the local end as possible. If I want custom low poly models and low res textures, I should be able to do it myself, or if I want super high poly models and high res textures, I should be able to do that. Cutom UI (like EQ does) and sound of course also go in that category. A player is more likely to stick with a game if they can make it look and work exactly as they want. Anything that doesn't interfere with actual game play should be able to be modified. At least, that's how I'd do it.
