ur are utterly wrong, u complain about minin being boring, and then say that making it harder would kill the game? in other words u think a challenge is boring and it would be more fun if u payed mistar drug baron and his chief protector 10k for unlimited mining rest of the day? i mean, its the challenge that is fun. and imo mining is too easy atm, i just bring my dominix with a medium shield booster and 4hardeners equiped and sit with 5serpentis defenders(40k pirate) orbiting me at 1km range and worry about them suddently turning on my harvester drones or blowing up my cargo container with splash damage from missiles(well, i probably wont even do that cus im gonna try using secure containers tonight)
now if mining required team work and was a challenge it would be alot more fun. curently moving the ore from cargo bay to container out in space is what bothers me
On a side note.. Having pirates actually do something rather than just waiting for someone to kill them they could say, be running there own mining operations with some guards, haulers, miners etc and if "non-friendlies" poped up they could call in some heavy back up actually forcing u to leave unless u actually had 3-4 battleships with nice equipment.
and perhaps the same if u ran into a "guard" force, if ur force was superior, they wouldent just charge u but rather keep some distance til they could call in some reinforcments :)
got a bit carried away there.. but anyway, im sure the serpentis would like it neway, and i know i sertainly would, i see no challenge in eve other than survive that cap bug totally crippeling my ship(no wait, they fixed that  ) :P

Gah! no NPC mineing..
the respawn rate sucks enough as it is! <it takes aprox 2 weeks for a roid to spawn a decent level of ore>
if the NPC's start strip mineing it'd screw this up even worse, not to mention npc's could mine 24/7...would stripmine every field in the game in a matter of weeks
