Hey all sup,
If anyone can help me with this i would really appreciate it :(
I just got home, turned on my computer, started signing on AIM, loading even blah blah all the stuff i usually do. Then all of a sudden my sound makes a sound and shuts down. I try turning it on again and it turns on, doesn't make weird sounds but nothing comes on the screen, complete blank, Not even that blinking underline.
So I tried a few things (within my limited knowledge) that usually fixes whatever problems i have, i check to make sure the video card wasnt knocked out (dont have it screwed, and took out the power cable and rubbed my hand on the case to take away static of course :|) and then took it out and reseated it. Tried it again and nothing
Next I pulled out my old videocard, thought maybe the vid card got messed up, so i put it in (it previously was in and running on the computer so it works on it) and still the same thing. Then I thought i'd try another monitor (didn't think this would do anything but wth not much effort involved and i wanted to play eve and stuff of course ;p) and still nothing.
Then I tried disconnecting the hard drive (cause i had a problem that was like that before) and still nothing, then tried connecting it to another hard drive, and still nothing.
I don't know what it would be :/ less the agp slot (comp from early 2002 so i don't have pci express) or maybe the ram went bad :( can't think of anything else. I can't try replacing any of the ram cause its rd ram, so its expensive crap, and if i take out one stick and don't have all the bays filled the computer is set for it not to work.
So I don't know what to do :( im on some crap computer right now and im stuck :/ if u have anything that can help my dilemma i would really apprecciate it :(
and ill give u 30mil ingame :| (i no its not a lot but i have a debt to pay back first and don't have more left to give u ;p)
money goes to the first person that gives me the right advice that works >< and doesn't include replacing hardware ;p thx so much again everyone whose gonna reply here, and regardless of the money i still very much apprecciate your help.
Thx in advance,
Dao 2

If it's completely blank, that narrows it WAY down. Memory, hard drives, stuff like that would cause problems after the BIOS had shown up. If the screen is just plain BLANK then it's either monitor, video card, or motherboard/CPU. If you tried a different monitor and different video card, we can cut those off the list.
That leaves you with the motherboard/CPU.
That's not good
Unless you completely failed to mention something in your description, or I completely missed something in reading it, this looks like a problem that will either need professional repair, or new hardware. try booting with no video card in and see what it does
is your monitor going into the auto self test thing that it does when it's not plugged into a computer, or is it just staying blank?

He said it's completely blank, so I can't see how this would be useful. Originally by: Dark Shikari Have you tried a boot disk?
Or this. Originally by: Dark Shikari Have you replaced your monitor data cable?
Monitor cables, so far as I know, never entirely die all at once, they degrade over time if anything. And even if that were the problem, it wouldn't have caused any sort of weird noises. Originally by: Dark Shikari Do the lights turn on? If so which ones? Same with fans.

My warranty expired a year ago :( it was all covered, but no longer ;p
And u no those monitors that have a orange light when the computers not on and stuff? but turns green when something shows up? Yeah its staying orange :| i have tried different (previously working on same computer) videocard, different monitor (also previously working, not that it makes a difference), and new hardrive (jumpers set to master, should at least start up with the post and bios stuff like u say :|)

it has no auto self test :|
edit; actually thats a lie ;p it tells me that theres no cord deteced if i do that, but no it doesnt say that, it just sits there like if a computer was connected but was turned off

yes theres no sound, nothign comes up at all and ive tried pressing f1 to go into setup yes ;p doesnt matter, tried to different monitors with different cables. Same lights as always, it seems just like it does everytime i turn it on, cept that it doesn't show up anything on screen. Though it wont turn off at all unless i pull the plug (u no usually gets to sign in screena nd eventually turns off there)

Lots of possible causes, but I'd bet on it being the PSU. The CPU and motherboard can cause this kind of totally dead system, but it's unusual for them to just blow suddenly. PSUs, on the other hand, do that quite often, especially when they're a few years old.
But you'll be hard pressed to pin down the cause without a stock of parts to swap in and out, so calling an engineer or taking the system to a repair shop may be the cheapest option.

Now, that is something I cant resist. Also, thought you have been earning loads via NPCing in 0.0 space, I will give you fast answer for 50M? Nah, 30M + bonus upon your discretion, RA making this poor girl poorer each day.
OK.
1. Any funny symptoms before this happen, like USB not working, something always failing at random?
2. Computer specs pls?
3. Beeps at BIOS startup?
4. CPU dead?
5. Bad RAM? No worries, you can always boot without RAMs, just wont pass BIOS screen.
6. Please do a capacitor inspection of your video card and on the capacitors on your motherboard, especially the bunch near the CPU unit. Do you see any bulging/leaking on the capacitors?
7. Power supply working?
8. Any burnt smell on your system unit, motherboard area?
*/me waits for 30M soon if you reply.*

Well if the system lights up, your PSU is good. That basically pins it down to the motherboard/CPU. Almost definitely the motherboard, they go much more easily and frequency than CPUs. Sorry -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

Take your RAm chips out. Put RAM chips back in - one at the time.
See what happens.

everythign turns on as normal, the cd readers blink on and off as theyre testing, all the normal lights come on, i hear no different noises (nothing, not beep codes, not something sounds like its broken ;p)
it turns on normally except for the fact that the monitor light stays orange and shows nothing, and it wont turn off if i press the button (would normally when it hit windows screen, so im guessing nothing is really going on behind that black screen ;p)
