The sound was so important before I started multiboxing. I think it would take a lot to get to a point where it was overemphasized. We kind of need a better delivery system in addition to more content though. World sounds could be automated easier than music. Music, sound and rhythm can have profound effects on us. Its become a science as much of an art. Bin-aural beat generators could be incorporated into the world sounds. Minor variations in a tone between the left and right speakers are interpreted as subsonic frequencies that can alter our brain frequencies into many useful states for enhanced learning, creativity or focus to name a few of hundreds. Besides our brains they act on our bodies as well. Its long been known that certain portions of the audible spectrum affect our emotions.
If stuff like that was generated on the fly to various stimuli in world sounds and then overlayed with some new compositions a whole new universe of immersion could become available for us and them. |

I find the music in EVE to be a particularly powerful aspect of the game. It's a matter of immersion of multiple senses to provide a more powerful impact... imagine what "A Clockword Orange" would have been without Beethoven. I don't always have the music on when playing, but I usually do. The current soundtrack is nothing short of amazing, and I for one would love to see it continually expanded. Keep up the good works. |

Mara Rinn wrote:One of my favourite "mission running" tracks is "Retribution". It triggers on some acceleration gate activations, has a slow build up of about 15 seconds, then starts into the heavy guitar & drums. This is about the time it takes to activate the gate and drop into the next pocket.
Of course if all I heard was "Retribution" it would quickly become annoying :)
As for controls, it would be nice to have a shortcut key for pausing the music or turning the music off.
That's the gripe, being a mission runner/miner, you end up listening to the same few tracks forever, until they just become background noise. It's and incredibly poor and uninspiring aural experience and makes a poor work of EVE's amazing soundtrack.
I haven't heard "Merchants, looters and ghosts" for ages ingame. I miss "My second residency" and was thrilled to stumble on "I saw your ship" (and then waited for it to end before jumping out of system ). Would like to know where do they play "New moon"...
That may be of the most annoying little stupid things CCP has done to my game. If they had to get rid fo the legacy code, OK, do it, but then replace with the same functionality and new code... no need to reinvent the wheel and fix what wasn't broken, then claim that customers should use third parties to experience your content. Also, I can HIGHLY recommend most of the CDs released by Instinct Records, especially Chill Out, Chllout Phase Two, their Ambient Systems series & their Ambient Boxed set. They are incredibly good collections/samplers of the genre and you'd be hardpressed to find something better in this genre. |

The new ambient music is nice but I have a few issues. (I know I can play these out of game but personally I feel these should be game features not something I need to load winamp for)
1. The awe inspiring tracks only play HighSec. NullSec while sounding creepy is just boring! I actually turn music off in NullSec now because there is no music, just one repeating ambient track.
2. The ambient music changing track every single stargate jump really ruins the immersive feel of the music, you can be enjoying Below the Astroids and feeling that nice feeling when you jump and suddenly have Nouvelle Rouvernar Hero playing.
3. Sound options outside the ESC menu for ease of use regarding sounds and music, having to blind yourself from the games goings on every time you feel you want a track change isn't immersive or enjoyable.
4. An option to disable the music change when using an acceleration gate, the few tunes it plays get repetitive and break in with every gate jump. Lieutenant Turelus

perhaps a new combat-themed track named "Below the Wrecks"?
or maybe "Nouvelle Rouvenor Ganker"? You may gain the knowledge, but you will lose your belief, with all its mystery and comfort. If there was proof, absolute and certain, there is an afterlife, why not quit this life, and be done with it? Ponder about these things all your life, and you're a philosopher. Compress these ponderings into a couple of pages, and you'll go mad. |

1. Don-¦t have a lot of experince out in null and wh. Though I felt it scary and gor curious of the area when I heard the dark ambient there. Maybe they get dull after a while I don-¦t know. They should mix in some music in the ambient as well.
2. This is something that irritates me as well when hauling and such. That tracks could change while you change region or something, not solar system.
3. I don-¦t care so much about the jukebox. It is possible to stream the music from the internet or download it in good quality. Though I sometimes stream music from radiochannels that captures the dark sci fi feeling. One of these radiosites are http://www.digitalgunfire.com/.
4. Increase the mission combat tracks to a dussin more ;) "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." - Winston Churchill |

I am always in favor of more music.
Also, there was a game called Tranquility (seriously) that grew out of an old SGI graphics demo. It had fully procedural music that was generated based on the geometry and colors of each level. It was amazing. Alas, it's gone now. Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |

Sometimes I run the game just for the music.
What will it take to have in-game radio stations we can choose from? I remember channel surfing the radio in the few times I played GTA (Vice City).
Yeah, that's a lot of music and content.
But a trip through amarr space with nothing on but choirs would just about mirror any drive through Nebraska or Mississippi.
Unless the stuff in Amarr space sounded like Enigma. The empress didn't forbid a beat, did she?
The stuff in Minmatar space would have tribal beats, Ska...
I imagine the Caldari would have mostly marching stuff, Wagnerian opera, Horst Wessel... OK sorry, couldn't help it! The "caldari as n@zi" jokes are old - just had to throw that in there. Solly solly so solly.. Their "Asian influence" would probably figure in as an element to mostly modern industrial. (my best guess in this matter).
Gallente space - eh - Well it'll be country AND western around Intaki... Just kidding. Gallente space would be up for grabs but if we really want a feel, expect a lot of advertisements for ... uh... adult stuff.

That would be good; maybe they could add a key to skip tracks too. And how about a way to select which tracks you want to hear?
There sure seems to be an awful lot of support for a feature that we supposedly wanted removed! Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.-á-á-á-á-á - Kina Ayami |

that track, should still be in EVE too. somewhere. I wasn't very involved in the choice of which tracks plays where so I can't tell where it is located now. I love the music. And I can say, with absolute certainty, that it was the music which put a spell on me before the gameplay got me. I wouldn't be playing this game if Jon had not made the music for it. The music defined EVE for me before I had played it enough to understand it.
That said, I'm really pissed off they removed the jukebox. Like really, really pissed of. |

Personally I find that Jon Hallur has already composed the most impressive and beautiful space-ambient Music ever
For me it's not limited to EVE. I listen to his work while stargazing (goose bumps guaranteed), reading Sci-Fi and many other activites that go well with such relaxing music.
Any update about EVE soundtrack is always good news.

p.s. If you wan't to skip a song, you can enter the settings window (ESC key in the client), lower the volume of the music to 0, and then back up you will get a new random track. Perhaps we should add a skip button somewhere if it is needed. Sir, you're my hero. I absolutely love your music.

Spectacular. Can you start with more nullsec tracks? I keep hearing the same one over and over and over again. It's kind of an ambient track with weird noises that sound vaguely like a space cow. |

After more than 1000 days offline I entered Eve-Online again. I was happy to see my ships and roam around in space, once again.
But then I started to look for the Jukebox, after entering help I understood it was gone since a few patches back. I was guided to the Soundcloud side - but, the quality was bad. It sounds so bad. The original Jukebox was better.
Now I have to go to bed with a little tear in my eye. Damn this was a sad moment. |

Since the topic of adaptive sound was touched, how about getting it to work in conjunction with the aggression timers? Or put in simple words, once you're in combat, the the music would shift to a more dynamic mix of the same/similar track. Connecting it to the timers makes sense as a rather reliable way to determine if you are in combat.
You could also make it alter slightly if no aggression is commuted, yet, there are the perfect circumstances present, like another pilot or NPC on grid with you. All the calculation should be done client-side, if not obvious (just saying) so no lag will be derived of such a feature.
An example that springs to mind is the way music was in Freelancer, with different variations dependent on region, ememy presence, whether in or out of an asteroid field etc. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4259327 - more suff in the Zero.Zero collection |
