I don't run the fastest machine either and performance suffers with every nebula but what exactly are you looking for? EVE: The Nethack Edition? Or do you just want an even easier time winning your battles?
Next people will be asking to remove models from fleet battles and other players from space. Wait, I like that last one...
I'd be all for making those environments less resource intensive. Mini nebulae don't need to move at such speeds to begin with. Or any speed at al for that matter. But environments are the only thing that make me look at my screen anymore. I want more of them - and if at all possible, better ones that load faster.

I have wanted this stuff removed for a while and have lost ships do to the lag. I am always having to position my camera in a way where the nebula isn't visible so i can complete the mission. The lag from this makes it nearly impossible to manuever your ship inside of the field, which is required when trying to get the right transversal velocity over a target. ******************** Join Public Channel "Christian Public Access" for great fellowship and fun |

These clouds suck...badly I hate them with a vengeance, their brightness is terribly irritating and you have to position the camera perfectly to be able to see if your mods are activated or not. Please please remove them!

Don't remove them. Get the client to render them easier. And please, have a look at the sound system. It is still causing bad performance, crashes and general unpleasant results.
And while you're at it, please redesign the Minmatar gates and stations causing EVE to crash when running on Linux.

Personally l think they really add to the atmosphere, but l do agree with ppl that have'nt got fast pc. There should def be some more options to turn these off or down.

They lag my ageing PC down too but I zoom the camera as far out as it can go and the problem stops.
Yes, I know this means I don't get to see the pretty things or explosions or other stuff. And yes, I know it means having to fight by keeping an eye on the overview for distances, etc, but I don't mind as it means my game runs smooth.

Edited by: Biosman on 20/01/2006 18:33:07 SPACE...IS...B L A C K so while were at it lets... get rid of brown system skyboxes get rid of green system skyboxes get rid of red system skyboxes get rid of blue system skyboxes
in fact, get rid of all colours and have, black + stars, with some black, and black and spend more time making nice colourful planets with rotating atmospheres, and realistic moons so we feel we are in space and not inside a minature ship touring someones guts

I dont have a fantastic comp but it's pretty god, however DS nebulars slow it right down so I have to use the turrets and effects off options.
Better to keep those and lose the gas IMO

Keep them for points of interest and other places where scenery counts. Eve does have a great atmosphere after all and I'd hate to see it go, but deadspace is where lowering any potential sources of lag is more important than preety gas clouds

Nebulas dont create lag, they lower FPS which is not same.

Or they could make the game black and white like the original Elite. Or just make everything wireframe line drawings, that would help a lot. Or why not just get rid of the graphics altogether and make the game text only??!!

Gets my vote for removal (or the option of on/off like effects for guns..) some of us remember pre pretty dust cloud times and graphic chugging wasn't so much of an issue, then wammo, in came the dust clouds, PC struggled and took a nose dive..
Since then I've upgraded the PC twice (average cost per year to continue to play eve is ú500..)
But still... even with a stupid spec PC (3.2Ghz DD2 RAM, PCI-E graphics card) deadspace missions with lots of pretty dust clouds still cause some degree of uncomfortable graphics lag just because some designer thought they would look extra pretty..
Like a zillion missiles exploding against your hull isn't petty enough..
And before anyone says, but I like prettiness.. then ask the nice dev people to give you an option to remove those silly targetting lines that are cluttering up the screen and making it hard to see the dust clouds..

Better yet, replace all ships by triangles without any texture at all...
In short, no, while I know nebulas, dust clouds, astroids so on and so forth cause lag for some players they also create a nice backdrop to fight in.
Personally I would like for those nebulas and so on to have additional effects, for example there could be nebulas that if you enter them will rip your shields to therads but has no effect whatsoever to armour and hull. Likewise you could be dust clouds that does nothing to shields but if the shields go down the astroids will cause similar amounts of damage to armour and hull.
This would cause even more lag but it would make the game more interesting.

To get rid of lag: 1)buy a friggin graphic card that isn't intergrated or 5 years old 2)don't play eve if you have dial-up and expect you wount have lag
I think nebulas, dust clouds, etc. add a nice touch and thats why eve is a graphicaly beautiful game.Would be nice if ccp made those tornadoes that are on 1 of the screenshots to be in more systems.

The only problem with the nebulae that I've had is mistaking the debris in the Angel Extravaganza missions for something I could kill. :) I used ot have problems with the big dust clouds on my desktop - but it was because my vid card was failing. Once I replaced it, there was no problem. I think the nebulae are an essential part of the atmosphere of the game. They add color and beauty that is at the hard of the Eve universe.
However, I would like for CCP to find a way to increase the contrast between the bright backgrounds and the ships modules. It's really hard to see whether a module is active or not sometimes. I have to keep moving the camera around to put themodules against a black background so I can see them.

theyre not nebulas, theyre skyboxes with "sometimes" bad graphical pixelation. Lets face it,dark true space has solitude, theres something absorbing and magical about it,true liberation freedom and silence. Coloured light effects should come from anomalies, planetary hues, the "occaisional" dustcloud.Plus stellar bodies need to be much much bigger and you shouldn't be allowed to warp through them "collidable object" I love Eve as much as the next person, but some of these systems are awful colours, and theres too many coloured systems,Lituria is an exeption but brown systems uuggh

I like nebulas too, dont get that mixed up. And I didnt say anything about removing ship textures so keep your sarcasm to yourself. I also have a very good graphic card and a fast connection so its not on my side with the nebula lag.
The best example is "Rouge drone harrassement" mission: I warp to the gate with 30-50 FPS, depending on time. As soon as I drop out of warp in the mission, the FPS is going down to 15-20. It gets a little better if I turn around the view away from the nebula.
And I fully support the idea of an option to turn off nebulas. ------ BlogÖ |
