If this was me in the frieghter. I would have scuttled the ship, and try to deny the pirates  anyting at all incluing the joy of blowing me up. After all the HP on a frieghter may just hold out long enough to do this. I would have then tried to pod away. But never ever would I have logged. But this guy was alone in a ship that should be escorted in low sec.  WTF?

well its not about the freighter having an escort or not. It should drop something. Even if its a can that has to be picked up by another freighter and when it is opened in a station it then does the calculations on what survived or not and gives it to you then.
Ransoming is the only way to get anything out of it right now.
Having ransomed a few and popped a few, there are times when you have to really fight for it. Such as our group of 2 battleships and a HAC chasing a frieghter that had instas, catching him at a gate engaging his escort and killing them while locking down the freighter and tanking sentries. It took a lot of effort, skills, risk, and a group working like a well oiled machine to do it.
We got 300 mil off the freighter but I would have rather had its contents after seeing the size of the escort and how willing he was to pay 300mil so quickly. |

I agree that freighters should drop multiple cans, but disagree with them dropping ships assembled into space. Ships should only drop assembled if they were being carried assembled. Packaged ships should go in a can. Then the pirates get to try and find a freighter to carry their ill gotten goods.
This would probably be great for EVE, because then pirates would need to learn defensive tactics to protect their ill gotten gains, lest other pirates steal from them.
First when you blow up a hauler carrying a ship, all the ships are assembled and ejected for boarding.
Second, Freighters cant pick up anything in space, they are just station to station transporters.

Time to tell my little story.... I was only member of my corp online when the CEO of our war targets decided to leave his corp in order to move his Obalisk containing his entire corp hanger and 5 BS amongst other things.His aim was to get his corp out of our area of operations and into high sec empire where noone could get him in his new newb corp.
All this occured in low sec btw. So i decided this was not going to happen on my watch :P . i got my alt in a haorder and passively cargo scanned him first and nearly wet myself looking at all the stuff in there.
Then i had to go and get into my apoc and try and catch up with the Obalisk , he had a scout in a shuttle ahead of him and he had seen me in a crow b4 so i guess he felt safe.
I managed to change ship2 jumps off the highway and get back on his tail, Ihad about 10 jumps to catch him in b4 he hit safe space.So basically i caught him aligning 2 jumps from empire and started ganking . unfortunatly i couldn't tank the sentries solo long enough to kill him so i used my alt to bump scrammble him while i re-capped and armour rep'd(was this underhand tactic u decide,he had logged off in combat btw), Now i knew i had to ransom to get anything from him but he had 100mil max and was pleading withy me via his alt scout.
So I managed to go in and gank and out and rep 3 times , got the obalisk down to 50-60% structure until unfortunatly the obalisk slipped past my alt and warped to deadspace :( . (yes i know i shoulda probed him but i dont have the skills , yet)
The point is i was haveing real trouble killing this guy ,but he didn't really know that and was willing to do anything to make me stop , if at least he coulda jettisoned the 65k of zyd would have been nice , instead all i got for my eforts is you lot flaming and calling me a newb :P
so judge away peeps
