They have big can openers for hands and race around tearing cans open and bringing you back the contents. Higher skills would allow you to filter the kinda stuff they brought back and would enable them to carry more loot per run before they had to return to the ship.

I think its a good idea... frees up that useful high slot, and takes drone bay space instead. plus different skills to train.

For pulling cans to the ship. Dones would be useful for looting the cans absed on their loot filters. They would also have better range and could loot while you fought.

Something like an industrial utility drone to go along side the combat utility drones. Would need similar skills to a tractor beam, plus drone skill, but would free up a high slot, fair compromise. Have light and heavy, with different capacity so it might need several trips. But hey, I like drones, they are my little minions.

I hate picking up loot after killing an NPC nest or even if it's just three or four rats. It's annoying and tractor beams aren't suitable to everyone.
This would let me deploy different drones, get a drink, return and warp out. :)
It'd suck if the drones stole though, causing accidental agro. So get it right first! :P

CCP has stated Salvage drone aka loot drone when they first talked about a lot of the goodies for RMR(before it was called RMR). I did see at one point they said they would not bring out salvage drones at this point because they wanted to bring out tractor beams at this point.
BUT yes they know of this and they have been long sought after.
