Okay, I like the word filter (sort of) because it filters out naughtiness. But when the word ***** is filtered out that really sucks. (the word is cr4ck)
So... yeah, like I was saying earlier something where I was going to be like "yeah just ***** it open" and it came back filtered. Little harsh, don't you think? _________ roflfest 2006 - be there

The word filter on this forum is horribly outdated. Pretty much every word filtering script these days can figure out the diffrence between***** and co.ckpit but noooo.... not this one. -------------

The really sad thing is that there actually has to be a filter, take the name **** for example, is it going to be outlawed as being obsene?
And like with the word sa***uard, why block the letters *** in the middle of a word?
The real problem naturally is the people with far too much time on their hands, a far to smutty mind and too much imagination gets all worked upp because someone types in a combination of letters that in their mind is durty, obsene and or worse.
Whats next, start blocking the words people start using in place of the real "bad" word?
Is it really better to say "the 4 letter F word" than "****"? I meen they both meen the same thing and thus both usages of the same intent should be equally bad to say.
Oh well, sadly we are stuck with word filters because some people are far too uptight about this kind of thing, in the end a post on the forum will probably have more *'s than letters :)

The filtering of everyday common words is nonsensical. Saf3guard and cr4ck are prime examples already mentioned. I know that cr4ck can refer to a drug and be a mildy naughty reference to the space between one's buttocks, but it is far more commonly used in its true sense. Filtering it is like taking a sledgehammer to ***** a nut. It *****s me up to be honest.
On the other hand, I'm otherwise ok with some swearword filtering because it reduces the likelihood of this site being blocked by any kind of website filtering software we might decide to deploy at work in the future.

and some words like **** are filtered - OK, they weren't nice guys, but i would suggest no-one would be offended by it not being filtered, would they?
and there is blatant sexism at work - vagina vs *****
