Well I have been running around trying to collect some minerals. I bought a few out in unsecure space and took my chances. Well luck wasn't with me tonight and I lost a couple ships. Both groups tried to pod me but only one succeeded before my pod jumped. No big deal I knew the risks, I'm not complaining in general. I'm just curious as to why pod, what's in it after you have already gotten the ship kill and whatever goodies were left over?

1. It gets the victim out of local so he doesn't spend 1 hour smacktalking and telling all the people in the area that you're pirating in the area.
2. Corpse.

Okay 1 makes perfect sense and 3 does it really make a squishy sound?
But still what value does the corpse have, well other than a trophy? Do corpses retain their previous owners name?

Not exactly the honorable path but still a valid reason I guess.

Yes, they retain the name and some corpses of more (in)famous people went for 200+ mil on the market forum. And what's wrong with trophies.

Absolutely nothing, I just wanted a better understanding of the motivations behind podding someone.

Podding is good because it...
A) Gets me your corpse.
B) Removes smack talkers from local.
C) Removes a possible risk from local, or customer that has already been dealt with, so i can identify one i have not dealt with yet.
D) As mentioned, it's good listening to a corpse squish and explode into a green fuzzy mess.
E) I'm a bad person, if word got out i let people go, who'd take me seriously, esp when i sometimes earn money by letting people pass if they pay me.

Edited by: Vandar Broheem on 22/01/2006 02:52:17 Edited by: Vandar Broheem on 22/01/2006 02:51:34 Ransom wasn't an issue for me either time, actually none of the times I have been shot at and both times podded (first time not tonight) nobody asked for ransom to let me go. The first time I might have paid a nice ransom to keep some implants but this time I was bare.
Fun I'm not sure I understand, maybe being on the receiving end nullifies that.
Killmails if kept in game I understand as a trophy, I'm just not too keen on the tracking sites....seems too much like an ego ride IMO.

I think there should be a skill where you have a chance of taking an implant out of your head succesfully, but it would also give you a 10% chance a level of taking any remaining implants out of a corpses head. It would be 10% because you can cut the brain and all wide open since the dude is already dead and you don't have to worry about being carefull with the dude.
You would have to be at a ship/station with medical services and the skill should have something like a 6X training mod.
But more on subjest corpses have a LARGE value to Role-Players in role playing corps. ******************** Join Public Channel "Christian Public Access" for great fellowship and fun |

That gets a huge eye-roll from Garreck.
There is great tactical value to removing a pilot from local. Period. Trophies are nice, killmails are nice, but a corpse does nothing for me and a podkill is generally not worth much on a killboard. By taking a pilot out of local and removing him completely from the fight, I've accomplished something useful.
And, while this likely doesn't apply to the original poster, podding is the only way to collect a bounty.

Well, i had this one time.
I podded a guy in 0.0 and then some hauler warps in. I shot the pod and shook the screen, 10 seconds later he's scrambled and kill him to.
Later in convo he said the shake delayed the warp cuz he couldn't click anything

EVE has sound? Hmm....
Anyway, killing a POD is more like a statement, like 'see how superiour i am to you' or 'you are such a noob that you even couldnt save your pod'. And ofcourse, if a station is nearby he will be able to get another ship, when you kill the pod, they usually dissapear into a other system.
Also, clones cost cash. Thats the reason you destroy a ship in the first place. On top of that, the podded person might have implants, which he'd lose. Good for the market.

The topic creator asks the wrong question! Ask: "Why not pay a toll!" If you pay ISK in time (while you are cloaked after a jump), at leats our corp will not podkill you. If you ignore our presence, we will do everything we can to podkill you.
So, let¦s say podkilling is business.

Podding is the only way to kill someone. I don't think there is more complication to it than that. A good assumption in life is that everything happens because it can. You don't ask "why do people get killed in car wrecks?" do you? It happens because it is possible.

As a Pirate, you are mostly after cash/profit/valuable Items. In many chases it's more worthful to shoot the victim to low amor or structure and ask him for some millions. Especially in 0.1-0.4 since most peeps here don't have any expensive fittings or implants.
Not Blown up Gila = 38mio pay or die Blown up gila = 0 isk and some stupid equip
Sometimes you have to decide and it's up to everyones style. Just killing ship+pod is more like terrorism then piratism - Blood-Squadron - the infamous griefer from the Jumpgate Universe reached Eve! Now we are cuddly, soon we are dreaded!
