Hi Would anyone have any ideas on what to fit in the two Rig Slots? Atm I have this setup and its good for running past snipers and camps.
High - Proto Cloak.
Med - Y-T8 MWD, Invulnerability Field II, Photon Scattering Field II.
Low - Energized Adaptive Nano II, Small Armor Repaier II Damage Control
Ideas for the Rigs would be a help as I don't want to waste isk on buying and fitting them to find out that they give little or no bonus for running camps and snipers.
Thanks

Age - I think I read a post somewhere about not wanting to kill anybody... Speed is always a good thing unless they get enough webifiers on you.
You could also go for battleships (perhaps scorp) with a lot of ew like dampeners, jammers, ecm bursts, nos, neutralizers, etc etc but then you cannot jump through a gate due to agression timer...
you can perhaps try some solid tanking battleships (scorpion shield tanking with mwd and nano+inertia in lows (or wcs) or the amarr ships (or new tier 3 with tanking bonus)...

Don't tank a blockade runner - if you want to do that, get a deespace hauler. I've flown a crane on numerous occasions through lowsec and long 0.0 trips and have escaped quite a few gatecamps.
What you want is:
- One or two passive hardeners against your worst dmg type on shields. - Afterburner - Inertia stabs - One extra WCS
With warp to 0, it's become less of a speed thing and more of a tactics thing. Use it's agility, the +2 strength and the game mechanics to your advantage...
Example...
1) Not too long ago i was making a trip from empire to 0.0, had checked the map for kills but alas, the last gate to 0.0 had a domi and a taranis on it..as soon as i WTZ they jump through. Knowing the taranis wont have more then 3 points on it, i run through, take some damage while aligning and warp off. No biggie.
2) In 0.0 itself. A jaguar is stalking me for a few jumps. He knowingly doesn't aggro me since it will deny him jump and allow me to make my escape, but he sure as hell is relaying his friends to me. On my way to a gate a make a midwarp safespot, sure to keep it at least 14AU from both gates. When i'm with him at the gate, i turn back and warp to that safespot, leading him to believe i warped back to the gate i came from. At the safespot i scan, and when i see him pass me in warp, i log. He thinks i left system (cant scan for me from the gates!) ad probably goes on searching for me back up the route. After 5 minutes i log back in and he's gone, i continue my journey as planned and meet no resistance in the 5-6 0.0 jumps that were left.
3) Sometimes it gets nasty. Jump into a bubble, mega, curse, ranis, domi on the gate. This is where the not-having-a-MWD-but-still-having-good-speed-and-small-sig kicks in. Wait 25s, re-approach gate, turn on AB. With it's insane agility it accellerates to over 600m/s before the tacklers can web me, and it's small sig (no MWD penalty!) causes the battleships to have a really long locktime. I slide to the gate at about 200m/s just as the battleships open up, i jump back through, their tacklers are aggroed so not a problem, and i head for a different route.
Now i haven't used rigs on it yet - but i will most likely be using one that gives +15% warp speed and one that gives +15% MWD / AB speed boost.

Howdy All,
Sokratesz is right, imo, don't bother tanking a Viator. If you want a tank, get an Occator. With warp to zero (as with instas previously) you will only ever have problems warping TO a gate if there is a bubble. Warping away from a gate, however, is always problematic. My recommendation is fit for maximum speed and warp alignment and carry a big . . . uh, ECM.
Fitting: High: small nos Mid: 10mn MWD, 2x ECM burst Low: mix of nanos and intertial stabilizers
Warping to a gate: I disagree with Sokratesz here, use an MWD, the best you can find/fit. If you get caught in a bubble and end up 12km or so from a gate, run like hell. You'll align and accelerate to 2000m/s before anyone locks and webs cutting the distance substantially. If they lock you, they'll nos/web you but you'll be fast enough to make it (if you fit for speed). Your resistances are high enough that you'll make it to the gate with armor left unless you are terribly unlucky.
Warping away from a gate: The key to survival is to align and warp as fast as possible. You can do this with lows full of nanos and/or inertial stabs -- you cannot with a tank. With +2 warp core strength you have a pretty good chance of getting away. You're main risk is if you uncloak near an instalock frig with a webber. This is where the ECM comes in handy.
Burst ECM is very good here. Although it is short range and uses a huge amount of cap, burst ECM has very high strength and may allow you to break lock fast enough to run. To use burst ECM effectively I recommend you train up long range jamming (EW optimal range), frequency modulation (EW falloff), signal dispersion (ECM strength), and all the cap skills you can. Using a nos on your agressor will allow you to run your MWD for more cycles allowing your ECM more time to work (sometimes misses, etc.)
Once you use ECM you're aggroed and can't jump through. Make a midwarp safe spot, turn around and warp back to it and then warp around making more safe spots, etc. or pop the cloak and log, etc.
My hobby is touring through 0.0 in indys trying to get myself killed. Although I've lost my share of itty 5s and Exequerors, I've never lost my Viator. Granted, what do BoB, Xelas, Goonswarm, FIX, YouWhat, Outbreak, and D2 know about camping anyway?

Well Morkhan, i still have to disagree on the MWD point. Considering a big gatecamp with snipers sitting at 100km+, you will be an easy target with a 800m sig radius, even if you are moving at 2000m/s (which i doubt the viator is able to reach!).
Using offensive modules indeed will get you an aggro - and tbh, i'd rather not get sealed in in a system full of hostiles because i can't make the jump. Keep in mind that interceptors warp faster than you and will be at the next gate before you are. When entering really hostile territory, chances are they will be at both gates anyway.
I would prefer running. Your idea will work for small gangs but if you run into a large one or one with a Large Mobile Warp Disruptor (54k range) you will very likely die.

MWD + cloak is The True Way. Hit mwd, then cloak right after that and with ships speed you are already at gate when mwd cycle ends...all while cloaked so you cant be webbed. Using AB in blockade runner is silly, infact using MWD is most important survival module in majority of ships flying around 0.0.

With MWD they will have a lock on you as soon as you turn it on, thus you cant cloak.

You folks preaching 3x nanofibres in the lows, should try 3x inertial stabilizers. Rediculous align-to-warp rate, and by giving your ship less mass your MWD/AB gets up to speed a lot quicker. The trick with camps, etc, is to get into warp asap before you get locked and scrammed by multiple targets... And if you get bumped, well they'll help re-align faster too. I pack these on the Occator now as well, and I'm warping before she's finished turning on my screen ;)

You have already hit cloak before you even appear to their overview...or is there some eve magic like living next to cpp servers with fibre optics to get that fast locking speed? Never seen anyone locked before cloaking if target jumps throught gate, uncloaks from jump cloak and then hits ship module cloak. You understand there is maybe 1/10 sec at most between hitting mwd and cloak?

A skilled tackler will get you in that time, or at least will have hit 'approach' and may come close enough to uncloak ya. And you take a pretty big speed hit from the cloaking so if they get on top of you, you're dead.

Edited by: Flax Volcanus on 26/12/2006 16:09:29 I haven't flown my Viator since Kali came out. What about the 10% sig penalty for inertial stabs? I can't decide if it's better to use DC, 2x inertial or SAR, 2x nanos. One gives me marginally greater survivability through resists and HP at the expense of sig rad, and the other gives marginally greater survivability through speed and a slight repair ability.

The delay is usually a little bit more then that - just under a second - in my taranis with SBs - With only cov-ops on overview and my trigger finger poised I have done this many a times, it takes some fast reactions, but the important thing is just to get that lock.
I would imagine it would work much the same way with any other ship type that has a cloak on it - as long as my overview is configured (advance intel) then trust me when I say you would be locked down by a couple of inties around a gate in no time.

No. Even if you spam ctrl-click in overview where hostile ship appears after uncloaking, you still wont get lock if he doenst do some mistake. There is like second before you can even start locking ship, and then after that locking time. Easily enought to cloak again.

Epic fail the lot of ya!
Viator: High Slot - 1x Improved Cloaking Device Med Slots - 1x T2 10 mn MWD, 2x T2 Cap Rechargers Low Slots - 3x T2 Inertial Stabilizers Rigs - 1x Low Friction Nozzle Joints, 1x of the warp speed increase rigs
I can out-warp interceptors and, from facing the opposite direction at a stargate, I can turn around and warp before most interceptor pilots have me locked... takes me about 2 seconds to warp like that.
Takes me 3-4 secs to hit my max top speed of 1.5kms which I can sustain in a 1km orbit.
I have a near-indefinite MWD use.
THAT, my friend, is how you run blockades.

improved cloak II
10mn mwd (y-t8 or Shadow Serpentis), em hardener, invul
2x local hull inertia stabilizer, 1x overdrive II
you can just about insta-warp with this setup, and the overdrive+mwd help you run back to a gate in case you run in to a really major gatecamp.
for afk autopiloting in empire, switch the mids for a large shield extender, and passive EM and therm hardeners. this makes you pretty much invulnerable to solo suicide gankers.

Edited by: madaluap on 17/11/2007 14:54:52 Damn, not really that many thought out setups. Youre gonna tank a gate camp with a small armor rep?
1* Cloak II
1* 10mn mwd II 1* Warp disrupter II, usefull vs lowsec pirates that tank sentry, but cant tank them for a long time 1* whatever
2* nanofiber II 1* Inertia stabilizer II (could replace with overdrive for more speed)
1* Intertia stabiliser rig 1* warpspeed rig (10.8 AU, you are faster than battle inties)
Imo, polycarbs are a bit to expensive, so this is not the perfect setup. Been engaged by pirates 3 times now, never died. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Cloak Best 10mn MWD I can find, 2 Cap chargers 2 I-stab 2's, 1 Nanofiber 2 2 Low Friction Nozzle Joints
If I get hold of better agility equipment, you can guess where it's going to go..... yup, it's fast now, and I mean to make it even faster
If you have to tank more than 2-3 hits, it's a fair bet that you'll be in the market for a new Viator, regardless of your tank setup. Fit for quick and avoid the damage in the first place.
EDIT: Now that ECM is also a good idea. There's bound to be one camp out there that'll be lock-time boosted to the hilt able to get a lock before even the fastest BR can get moving. (But if they can manage to keep hold, they've EARNED that kill) _______________________________

My Viator tactic is based on this. You can get down to a 3s align time.
Fit as follows :
Inertia Stabilizers II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Inertia Stabilizers II
Shield Recharger II 'Cetus' ECM Shockwave I 10MN MicroWarpdrive II
Improved Cloaking Device II
Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer I Polycarbon Engine Housing I
This gives 139 signature, 10.8AU warp and a 3s align with 2200m/s availble under the MWD. The ECM is an absolute last resort if you do get locked and I'm usually iffy about using this, if you are getting hammered just turn round and hit the gate.
Obviously all these tactics rely on you flying with your brain turned on. Don't warp direct to gates you suspect have camps on, go from an adjacent planet etc. The Polycarbon Engine Housing is very excessive but touch wood I've yet to loose this setup.
I would love to hear people using the ABII over the MWDII. The massive sig increase means the larger guns will probably get a lock on you quicker.
