Yup but the minnies would be too overpowered. They would only need to use the scrap metal from destroyed stuff to build stuff. And the amarr would need too much gold and minnies to be viable

I think the closest you will ever get is Homeworld or Homeworld2.
Havent really seen any other decent attempt at a space RTS.

The way I see it, you could convert many aspects of their CCG into the RTS and merge it with some of the MMO stuff.
Like the centre of the CCG is your starbase, so you could have the RTS have a starbase.
But instead of having a market and stuff, you just mined minerals like in the MMO and just built stuff using space factories.
You'd prob also play from an empire perspective instead of a corp perspective too.

I for one enjoied Conquest: The Frontier Wars. Similar to eve in some ways like the several systems linked with gates/wormholes.

EVE already is enough Real Time, and it is Strategy too. It's even more RT as say C&C because there's no pauze-option. So to answer the OP: It already is RTS
But please don't make it a Dune II rip-off.
Hey, How about "EVE: The Movie"!

In my opinion eve is in fact an RTS game. The fact that you don't control multiple units doesn't mean there is no real-time strategy involved.

Define 'control'.
Point and click and tell your kestrel wing where to fly? No. Give them directives to interpret? Yes.
Tell your factories what their build queues are? No (well not exactly). But delegate a 'fleet construction' to an industrial subgroup, yes definitely.
Direct "your" resource to claim territory and expand productivity? Yes.
Have to worry about fatigue and morale? Yes definitely. Just because you don't have 'indicators' doesn't mean your 'units' don't suffer morale penalties, and fatigue penalties due to the fact that you've got an op on at 4am local time.
Can build resources, ships, stations, starbases, capital ships, fighters, mining ships, in order to build your 'operation' and allow you to achieve your current arbitrary goal?
Need to recruit pilots in order to fly your ships? Oh yes, and who you recruit is also influenced by a whole load of factors.
Oh yeah.
EVE is not a top down pointy click RTS. It's _much_ more realistic than that. You have a set of pilots and personalities to work with. Some are better at obeying orders than others. Some are better at mining than others. Some are 'uber' units who you want to place in top end ships. Others are much more replacable, so you want them in cheaper assault vessels.
Unit morale? Oh yeah. If you annoy your pilots, at best they'll be uncooperative, and at worst, they'll defect.
Need to gather intel, via recon, forum ninja-ing, bribery and corruption, or other means? Most definitely.
Behind it all you have industry and production, and making cash. If you lose less ships you will need less production, but you'll never lose _no_ ships.
Oh, and you don't always (often) get to command the entire operation. That's influenced by how 'good' you are at it. And that's also morale based - win more, command more, build trust and loyalty and carry on from there.
It may lack some of the similarities with stuff like command and conquer, but EVE is one of the most advanced RTSes out there. -- We are recruiting

You know precisely the Homeworld-style of game suggested, so don't go off on tangents.
If you don't LIKE the idea, just say so.

If eve was made into a RTS, only the men n women of RELIC could do it proper.. CCP should cash in on it and advertise, RTS it up during DT.. It sure beats these lame forums :)..

Eve is already the biggest RTS out there, at least for mega-corp and alliance commanders.
They have to oversee and command resource gathering, building, and fleet engagements. It's HW with actual people at the controls of the ship.
What could be better?
