His: 4 Light Ion Blaster IIs, 1 Small Nos Mids: 10mn AB I, X5 web, Warp scrambler Lows: 1600mm rolled tungsten, reactive plating II, Medium I-A armor rep, and a Mag Stab 7 Hammerheads in the dronebay
Thanks!

Edited by: CptEagle on 30/01/2006 00:09:20 Since you're a bit slowish... I'd switch the Ion blasters for 125mm or 150mm Railgun IIs.

For pvp, go with Nos+small neuts and a tank with drones as main damage dealers.

hmmm, I wonder if it wouldnt be better to drop the small (400mm) plate and one of the plates and use three different hardeners? Wouldnt that be a better choice?

I use this for 0.0 rat hunting and have not any problems, even with only 5 mil sp, 1.5 of that in learning.
4x150mmII's/Med Nos II
10mnABII/2xF-b10 cap rechargers
Small T2 Armor rep/2 rat specific active hardners/1600mm Rolled Tungsten
7 T2 Med Drones with damage specific to the rats you hunt.
This gives you 5k+ armor and the you can run everything for a very long time (as long as you are Nos'ing something).

Originally by: Tremor Brash I was wondering if anyone uses a Vexor for mining and if so what is a good setup?
did you know with L4 cruiser, L5 mining drone, L4 drone interfacing and 5/4 mining skills and 4x miner2's + 5 5 Tech 2 miner drones, you can pull in about 758m3 per minute!
ganged with my L4 foreman skill gets me 786m3/min -if i had 5/5 mining skills + foreman it goes to 806m3/min
tech 2 miners get 79.7m3/min with the above skills. (tested in the belts and verified)
makes for a great low cost, high output miner (relatively speaking) that can easily defend itself in 0.5 space and higher. with good drone piloting skills, it should have no problems. in 0.4 either (vs npc's and perhaps solo player t1 frigs and intys)
the down side is it'd probably take close to 50 days with good attributes, to get to those skill levels from scratch. and even with the expander, the cargo fills pretty quick.
this is the setup i use for 0.5 and higher mining. (with a bit of a pvp touch)
4X MINER 2 1x small NOS
1X 20km fleeting warp scrambler 1x t2 target painter 1x survey scanner
1x partial hull expander 1x t2 small armor rep 2x t2 co-proc
5x t2 miner drone 4x t2 hornet 2x t2 hobgoblins 2x t2 hammers
the reason for the 20k scrambler is to hold ore thieves should they be so bold. you need to bump the thief constantly, otherwise he can roll up to your can, initiate warp at the same time he nic's your ore and get away.
the target painter is to grab aggro from npc's at range so they'll stay more focused on you than your drones. it also helps increase damage output (less misses, better hits) of the drones.
the nos well, its a nos ffs!, help deprive him of defense and enhance yours..
perhaps a +2 disrupter would be better, but so far, the +1 does the trick. plus, i like to have a range buffer should i bump the hauler out of a 7.5k scramblers range.
the reason i do not use harvester drones is that they are too slow as well as a lot more expensive. (250 m/s vs 500 m/s, 150k vs 6-7mil isk)
try it out.. works pretty good. obviously there are other setups you can use. notably, using 2 expanders to make it less a hassle with ore transfers. but for a cheap rapid deployment, high output miner, its hard to beat.
oh, and if my math is right, with all relevant skills at level5, i think the output reaches 896M3/min. go with harvies and you pass the 900m3 mark with ease. add L5 foreman skills (and the foreman drone skill) i bet +1000m3/min can be had. -you'd just be crying cause you'd be transfer ore every 30sec or so.
almost makes me wanna try some crokite ninja mining just for fun..
not too shabby, eh? :)
-ank
(guess i now know why they wouldn't give us our mining bonus on the domi.. ) -drat ;p --- |

Edited by: Nero Scuro on 12/02/2006 11:07:44 My Vexor setup changes a lot, but at the minute I have:
High 4x light neuts
Med 1x medium cap booster (with 800 charges) 1x 10mn MWD 1x warp disruptor/scrambler (your preference)
Low 1x 800mm plate 1x medium armor rep 2x armor hardeners (your choice, I go with exp and kin)
The cap booster is a must, because I began to find that a Vexor runs out of energy very very fast with a MWD and med rep running even just some of the time. With the cap booster I never seem to be able to run out of cap no matter what I do!
And yes, there is a high slot going to waste. But as I said, this setup changes a lot, and I'm sure you could cram a small nos in there with uber setup skills or named equipment or something...
EDIT - oh, and 5 hammers and 5 hobgobs too of course. ___

True, vexors die too fast :(
only thing you can do to counter that is to fit 2 med armor repairers, but that require a cap injector
for pvp this is what you need to 'hang around' more than 20sec...
mid: med cap injector (400's or 800's), webber, warp disruptor
low: 2 med 'acco' armor rep's, 1 energized adaptive nano, 1 400mm plate (best you can get)
high: whatever you like and can fit (drones are your main weapon anyway)

HIGH SLOTS
2xMedium Energy Vampire. 3x150mm Small Railgun.
MID SLOTS
10mn Afterburner. Stasis Webber. Tracking Disruptor.
LOW SLOTS
1x800mm Plate. 1xMedium Armour Repairer. 2xArmour Hardners.
You can fit named or T2. Switch hardners/ammo/drones for enemy/faction type. Medium drones in the drone bay. |

Edited by: Yggr on 01/03/2006 22:02:05 Edited by: Yggr on 01/03/2006 22:01:46 How about this setup for ratting in 0.0, with an eye toward defending yourself against PvP:
HIGH: 1x Medium NOS 3x Small Neuts 1x Small Remote Armor Repper (for the drones - saves a trip to the station)
MID: 1x AB II 1x Scrambler 1x Webber
LOW: 1x Small Armor Repairer II (If I'm doing my math correctly, it's 83 1/3% as effective as a Medium Repairer I, with much lower PG and CPU requirements) 2x Active Armor Hardeners (Thermal and Kinetic) 1x 1600 mm Plate
No guns - your drones do the talking, and you keep them and yourself alive... The neuts are very cap-demanding and are used for only 1 or 2 cycles in a PvP situation.
Thoughts?
Edit: I originally included a MWD, but I don't think the powergrid can handle this, even with Engineering V. -----

My current speedy Vexor setup (For PvE):
HI: 3 med beams, 1 drone link augmentor, 1 tractor beam MED: 10MN AB2, Medium CL-5 booster, Cap relay 1 LOW: Named Med rep, 4xNanofibers Drones: 7xHammerhead2
I prolly change the beams to something other, since there is no use for them as my standard engagement range longer than their range.

I'm looking for a vexor for both pvp/pve. of course id change out things for doing each, but currently I have small projectile turrets 4 and med. proj. turrets 3. Most of these builds seem to use either small projectile turrets or small hybrid, and yet the vexor only gives bonus to med. hybrids correct? So would i be better off training for tech 2 small projectiles rather than training up hybrids etc? Is there a difference?

perfect set up but youll need to replace the hardeneres with reactor controls .. and your blasters are a bad idea always man always on a vexor use 150 small prot gauss' ... or tech two if you can ... tech two drones .. you can hit at 80 k with tech two drones .. ! with the extra mods etc etc .. !
byut for rattinga nd pvp .. 150 rails man . proyt gauss i hit like 190 to 250 perfect shot .. 150's and thats from 2k to 25 k ideal 7 to 12 ..! but every hiot gets a hot under 5 ..! in regards to inty killing if you use blasters hes gonna murder ya .. 150 rails apart from that and the hardeners or plating which you should be replacing with reactor controls .. else you wont fit a med nos .. 1 its a perfect set up .. 1

There are >some< drops for them, theyre just very....very uncommon.
I like this setup. It's not a very tight fit, mind you.
3x Med electron blaster II, 2x Small Diminishing nos.
1x Fleeting Web, 1x J5 / J5b scrambler, 1x ECM II.
1600 rolled tungsten plate, 2x EANM II (good comp. skills, otherwise use 1x Thermic 1x Kin hardner) and an explosive hardner II.
Brings res's to lowest of 60, and gives me about 5.5k armor. ---------------------------

Been using this for a while on missions (Haven't made it out to 0.0 yet.. only 1.2mil SP).
HI: 2x 250mm Railgun 1 (Iridium) 43km (base+optimal) 2x Medium Afocal Pulse Maser (Infrared) Drone Link Augmentor
MED: Y-S8 Afterburner 2x Cap Recharger 1
LOW: Medium I-A Polarized Armor Regenerator Damage Control 1 Energized Magnetic Membrane 1 Energized Basic Thermal Plating 1
5 Hobgoblin 1 5 Hammerhead 1
Resistances: EM-60%, Kin-59%, Exp-10%, Therm-57% TotalArmor: (only) 1425 That's all before the DamCon goes active. And 1 power per 30s, not too bad of a drain at all.
With the longrange, not a whole lot gets into close range to do much damage. And the 50% resistance from the Damage Control on Hull gives a nice buffer if something does start to pound the hell out of you.
I used to mount 2x 200mm rails, the pulse lasers and a Med Nos. But I noticed most of my targets were dead before they closed to the 10km range of the Nos. So I switched back to the long-range 250s, and send the drones out at 50+km to suppliment the guns.
Only time I really take threatening damage on L2 missions are those groups that all pack missiles. And the explosive just kicks you in the balls.

Edited by: Mothmar Friedsquid on 30/08/2006 18:24:31 My < 250k (edit, thought it was higher than it was) skill point build is: Hi: 250 MM compressed coil railgun. 3x 150 MM Carbide Tractor Beam
Med: 10 MM AB Shield booster Med cap booster (800's inside)
Low: 2x 800 mm steel plates (upgrade soon) 1x med repper 1x basic adaptive nano I.
At that point, I'm safe enough... The only time I really need to pay attention is when I'm fighting stuff a little smidgeon too tough for me. I'm going to get the skills to fit a real adaptive nanos and some 1600 plate in the next few days. (My short-term skill training time is limited)
Gives me the opportunity to work on my learning skillz. Pretty blah, I guess.... But the cap booster + the shield booster allow me to throw money at the big problems in the form of +800 boosts, which is 80% of your base capacitor capacity.

2 things:
1) I've only seen a few setups with Medium Hybrid weapons, what I'm looking for is a good setup to hit at long range while my drones deal the damage (30k to 45k ish range). I'm over 5mil sp, much of that in Drones, so my gunnery skills are painfully lacking.
2) For the Vexor Mining Setups. I really recommend fitting a tractor beam if at all possible. It's great for pulling rat-cans to your location, which provide nice decoys for would-be rat thieves if you don't open 'em. And if you're mining in an area where the good ores are frequently small in size, you can tow your main jet-can between asteroids as opposed to making several new ones.

Since I use this setup currently in fleet battles on a daily basis, I'm posting as an alt. It's different than any of the cookie cutter NOS setups I've ran, which work fine, but are very predictable and not well suited for fleet combat, really. Ideally this setup operates at 40km-20km from targets and is meant for longevity.
HIGH: (4) 150mm Railgun II w/SPIKE (33km optimal) (1) sm energy neutralizer for fast, small rushers
MED: 10mn ABII, small cap booster w/200s/400s, ecm multi II
LOW: (2) SARII, 1600mm tung, 800mm crystaline carb
DRONES: (5) Med Tech II of your choice, (1) Hvy Web
Wow, it's really slow moving but with 7500 or so armor it has great survivability and you are rarely called primary, and I always have plenty of time to warp if BS's start launching cruises at me or whatever. It also works well against smaller ships in small fleet combat or 1v1 just from the sheer amount of time that your drones are allowed to do their work. I also use the NOS/Rail setups but people actually give up on this ship and switch targets after they realize how much armor there is to eat through and how fast it gets repaired, with minimal cap strain. Good times. The only time I ran into trouble is when too much explosive damage came my way, and then I warped out and back in again, fully repaired.

Thoughts on my first Vex setup?
4x 150 IIs (AM/Spike), Med Nos II 10Mn AB II, Fleeting Warp Scram, 'Hypnos' Multispec MAR II, EAM II, Energized Reactive Membrane II, 800mm Crystalline Carbonide 3x Hammer II/2x Vespa II, 3x Hobgob II/2x Warrior II
I'd like 3 Nos/2 guns in highs, but I don't really trust the drones to do all the damage I need. In the mids, the Hypnos drinks cap like nobody's business, but when it engages it's like God wrapped you in his gloved fist for a few seconds of safe keeping. Only potential subs would be a webber or med battery II.
Constructive criticism welcome. |

I'm just beginning with 1 mil SP mainly in Drones. Currently ratting and security missions in 0.5 to 1.0 space.
High: 3X 125mm Prototype I Gauss Gun
Mid: 1X Magnetic Scattering Amplifier 2X Large F-59 Regolith Shield Inductors
Low: 2X 400mm RT Plates 1X Refugee Adaptive Nano Plating
Drones: 2 Ogre I 2 Hammerhead I 1 Hobgoblin I
Puts me at 6273 Shield HP and 3283 Armor HP. I have the skill for Web, Warp, AB or MwD, but have a lot of fun just tanking at the moment with the drones murdering everything in site.

When I hit 0.4 to 0.0 I will switch over soon as i complete Drone Interfacing IV,Advanced Interfacing and Hull Upgrades V. And end up in a Dominix.

2 Ogres - 2 Valkyries II - 1 Warrior II
Bit of a pain on cap with so many peeps using NOS but does nice damage , when cap does go just sit tight and let the drones do their stuff. I like blasters alot since I discovered them and I would never use them without a MWD hence the inclusion of one in my setup .

Edited by: GalacticSniper on 08/02/2007 13:30:00 Hi guys some nice setups here. This is my current vexor setup i am using for ratting in low sec and I must admit it is fun to fly:
High Slots.
4 x Dual 150mm T2 rails 1 x Medium Diminishing Power System Drain
Medium slots
1 x10 MN afterburner T2 1 x Medium FRX Cap Booster with 400 charges 1 x Capacity recharger T2
Low Slots
2 x EANB T2 1 x Medium Armor Rep T2 1x RCU T2
Drones = Hammer heads T2
Stats on the above Setup
Resistance = Them = 57.04% EM = 73.56 % Exp = 40.52% Kin = 57.04%
Running through quickfit can pretty much run forever or at least until the cap booster runs out.
Any thoughts are welcome guys

Since the bonus for the Vexor only applies to it's drones, I would recommend five T2 mining drones and as many T2 mining lasers as your CPU will allow (4?). It should put you almost on par with a low skilled Retriever, and certainly better than a procurer.

K, I just made it all the way through this thread. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with these setups. Here are the issues I am having.
1: Everyone is using 150mm rails. Even worse, some people are using energy and projectile weapons. Let's make this clear. The bonus on the ship is medium hybrid. Fit 200mm or 250mm rails depending on your desired distance. I wouldn't recommend this be a blaster platform, but 2 of them are nice when your enemy realizes he can't run and turns around to fire on you. Wanna use small rails? Fly a Catalyst!
2: I am a big believer in leaving the armor plate in favor of more resistances. I'm sure someone here has done the math.
3: This is a drone boat, with it's bonus going to damage. Fit an Omni. Launch your drones. Shred the enemy as quickly as possible. Launch drones as early as possible, so that they will still attack even if you get dampened.
4: On the drone note, you can sacrifice another mid slot and use 2 Omni's and a WCScram if you use a 4 combat drones and a webber drone. Or simply use the 1 omni and a TPainter which benefits both your drones and you Hi-Slot weapons.
So to sum up... Vexor = drones. Use drones. Use Medium hybrids. Get rid of the plate and go for another type hardener.
Your thoughts? LT

Tank with armor, or shields. Never both. Pick one. The Vexor is a more natural armor tank since it has more low slots than mids. For mission running, use two active "type" hardeners and 1 passive hardener (either type specific or EANM). Use a small named armor repper. Make sure the "Type" hardeners match the mission dmg type (look it up on the forums if you don't know).
On the mids, add a sensor booster to make up for the Vexor's crappy sensors. Supplement your drone bonus with an Omni link or nav comp. See if you still need the cap recharger.
On the highs, pick a range. Use 3 guns (med hybrid turret so you get the bonus) that meet that range. I usually fit the 3 biggest rails that I can handle, and change up the ammo to fine tune the range. Use the other two slots for utility (tractor beam/salvager/drone link augmentor, NOS)

the vexor for me acts as a great range ship. highs 3x t2 250 rails 1x salvager
meds 1x named web 1x long range scram 1x target painter
lows 3x hardners 1xt2 med amour rep
drones of your choice
this setup gives you great range , warp in at distance, web your target and unleash the drones and rails on it. seeing as its web'ed unless its got long range guns its pretty much screwed i think the vexor is naturaly a good range ship

The stasis webifier range is limeted to 10 km, wich is way under 250mm's optimal, and is considered very close range. Range where most close range weaponry works at it's best.
Now, any sort of a close range ship will have an MWD fitted, and with that, they will still be able to charge in at you with their high-damaging weapons, webbed or not. You will be dead before you know it.
Then there are speed-tanking ships. They normally don't even need to go into 10 km range to cause you damage, and their velocity is way greater than your turret tracking speed wich means that you simply won't cause them damage. Drones can usually scare them off, unless they are fast enough to outrun them aswell. -

After a couple of weeks in this ship, this is the post that makes the most sense to me. For missions at any rate, go agro, release drones, stay >20km away from the rats. That means med weaps, lead or iron to help out, and not alot of need for 1600mm plates as at that range (lvl 2 missions) your shield hardly gets scratched.

Yeah, for missions this may be great advice. But that is the beauty of this ship. It can be successfull with multiple setups. I personally have had great success with the 1600 plate, EANM, SAR II, DCII setup. This is for PvP though, and my main goal is to last long enough to let my drones melt anything that is pounding on me. So far, it has worked like a champ.

My post-trinity Vexor setup based on reading this and the other Vexor threads. I put it together for running L1/L2 missions in a new region. I've listed the setup with basic modules however the Vexor hull will fit this entire setup as tech 2.
If you don't have access to the Omnidirectional Tracking Link (Drones 5, Drone Sharpshooting 1) I'd suggest putting a Tracking Computer in it's place as you'll be relying more on your guns than drones for damage.
You could upgrade the guns to dual 150mm's, but the steep drop in tracking might make a Tracking Computer a requirement for L1/L2s and their swarms of close range ships.
This setup is "vanilla" looking to me, it's a simple tank, an AB, small rails, and lots of drones. ______________________________________________ a *****, and a boom, and onomatopoeia later there was nothing left of him, 'cept for a crater |

So I'm very new at the game, and just got a Vexor, and I'm curious why people are generally fitting light neutron blasters rather than medium?
Also, do you typically use your drones for long-range combat and carry blasters for when ships close on you? Or does it make more sense to carry railguns and try to maintain distance?

Because realistically you can't fit a tank (consisting of repairer or 1600mm plate) while using medium guns.
