Historically speaking, the majority of pirates were from noble houses, as their former status as naval officers and commanders bespoke. Breaking away, therefrom, does not nullify being highborn. The eyepatch, as used by pirates, was actually not indicative of injuries received, or falling prey to disease, but a tactical decision by a rather forward-thinking pirate captain, who realized that being able to see in the dark was essential to the leaders and members of his boarding parties. I would argue, good ser, that the pirate eyepatch DOES, indeed, loosely represent a connection to nobility roots, regardless of how far removed the pirate may be from his own upbringing. Pirates could also be argued to have been more noble than noble, as they generally did not use their status to enslave. Crews were treated as equals. Especially as they were more often than not, drawn from junior members of lower noble houses rather than the chattle of peasantry. Furthermore...
