In the spirit of HippoKing's post I thought I would start a new thread on the origination of character names. I see very very many interesting names in Eve and I'm always curious where people got the idea for them.
Please post where you got your name from. I'm sure there will be some interesting stories.
Tevrai: Tevrai was the password to a student account the United States government sent me for student loan information. I was just starting everquest at the time and thought it would be an original name. It has stuck with me through EQ,EQ2,WoW and SWG.
Pronunciation: Tevrye
I thought it might be fun

Hmm
Kaaii came from "Kai" the python in the novel "The Jungle Book"
I also own "Akela" who was the pack leader (wolf) who raised Mogley from a "mancub", but I never play him.

Valen as in Valen from the Babylon5 series, dough I would probably choose another if I would start over but the name is from beta.
As for L'eganas??? No clue why I chose it. ---------------------- Homo Sapiens non Urinat in ventum |

Had it since my first AIM account, never had a custom usename before that. Boink is a random sound (nor dirty you bastards :P) and Klasik is my last name...well their powers combined....form me?
rawr! The Damsel is no longer in distress. She was rescued enough times that she got the hint and installed better security systems at home. |

Drummer from Dimmu Borgir, always thourght it was quite cool for roleplaying games and other medievil based mmo's. I've used it on Ultima and such old games, so i used it for this too. -----------------

I got my name cos i thought it sounded cool. I was quite irritated when, a few weeks ago, i found out it was a nickname of Rommel. This was NOT my intention.

Captain Keyes and Commander Keyes were already taken (from the Halo series) so i had to settle for Admiral, at least im of a higher rank than the others

I entered into debate with a friend of mine once about what would win in a fight: A thousand fighter jets or a giant robot suit.
I argued that generally, giant robot suits are immune to the effects of conventional weapons. He was convinced, contrary to what military history tells us, that numbers confer an absolute advantage.

Fate Amenable To Change is the name of a ship in Iain Banks' book, Excession. All of my ships are also named for ships in Banks' Culture books.

Why not? Rommel was one of the greatest military masterminds to walk on the planet. Try doing a little research on him - you may become quite proud of wearing his nickname.
My name comes from the main character of a sci-fi project I've been working on for several years (been calling it "The Dreden War" on paper, never named it officially). Decker plays the role of a squadron commander. When I started playing EVE, I decided to use his name.
Everywhere else on the internet I'm just known as "Skyblade".

Neverwinter Night's random name generator. I used this name for my stupidply powergamed wizard, and when it came to think up a name for EVE I just kept it.

When I was choosing a nickname for The Matrix Online, my usuals were taken. So I sat there thinking for a couple of minutes.. I had nothing. Looked around the room. "Televisioner? Nah. Bedman? Eh.." And then I saw a can of Jolt Cola. :)
So much for imagination! The last name I did think of myself though. Took me only half an hour.

If you do some resarch on it, then you will find a lot what you dont make proud. He was maybe a military mastermind but failed with his political unsterstanding and if you read/view the interviews with his driver - well.....

Yeah, and he was also a facist pig, that consider people like me to be sub-human. I hope he is burning in hell right now. Anyway, I got my name from Robotech.

Errrr .... no he wasn't. He just worked for one. Besides, this conversation is veering dangerously off-topic.
I made my name up. It doesn't "come" from anywhere, except out of my head. I don't like using derivative names, it shows a lack of imagination ________________________________________________

Icek Villawrov came from the name generator for SWG. Something I definitely should've thought twice about. I am a little bit more creative in the names for my ships though.

Lord Wamphyri
|
Posted - 2006.01.30 21:56:00 -
[26]
My name comes from the Necroscope/Vampire World series of books by Brian Lumley, which I would recommend to anyone into vampire fiction as it's a damn good read!
Generally I'm just known as Wamphyri on most games I play, until recently when, after playing a text based mud (remember those? ) featuring slavery, bondage and other weird & wonderful stuff, I had to be a Lord (no way was I gonna be a submissive slave LOL! They had hot pokers!!!)
When that closed down the title stuck, and translated naturally into an Amarr character, and here I am a year and a bit later, still loving every minute of EVE!

Edited by: Mathias Zealot on 30/01/2006 22:09:52 Well, I used to play a lot of Starcraft (I'm over that now, I've got a much better, err, hobby ) and my general intenet alias just became Zealot. I totally made up Mathias and now get mistaken for a german player at least once every couple of months . I still love the name though.
