Assuming that in January 2011 there was around 9 Mil characters and one portrait image size is 8Kb all archive should be around 70 Gigabytes? -¥

Although it's been a short time for me personally, I don't like the thought of not being able to access the old portraits of my first characters. They are part of the "old" New Eden. Remove insurance.

I had my old portraits saved for old timeGÇÖs sake. And then the hard drive they were on crashed and I have had no luck recovering them. Shang Tung thank you for that post, I was not able to find any of the portraits I wanted to recover. However, it was fascinating to see the old web pages again; I had no idea any thing like that existed. It would be interesting to have an online museum where you could view a time line that showed how some object/item had changed over time. For example; the Scythe has had its 3D model and game stats changed a few times, also the Stealth BomberGÇÖs stats received a major over haul awhile back and mines are not even in the game anymore.

CCP either has a big auto increment value or has some other scheme for cooking up IDs. Say there were 5 million portraits at 12KB each, we're talking about 58GB of data, and I can't imagine that these images need to be served up all that often. You could do this easily on a $9/mo GoDaddy hosting plan. That's peanuts compared to CCP's overall server load. I get that CCP likely wants to move on, putting the past behind them, but these portraits have huge sentimental and historic value to a lot of us, why take it down?
