Does anyone know of any EVE-themed levels for UT, or a fully-realised ground-assualt TC for BF2. Personally I'd like to see an EVE mod for Space Empires IV Deluxe, but that's just me (easy to do, apparently).
(In English) If you know of any projects to apply some EVE lovin' to commercial or freeware games, or if you intend to create something along such lines (even if it's in RPG Maker XP, or some other authoring system -- text adventure anyone?) please post here.
Thank you

I dont' see how it would be a violation. There are plenty of mods out there, and so long as you don't make money from it, then theres no real reason that a company would want to sue the creators anyways, unless it was horribly bad and actually emberassed the company

Well, when Star Wars: Empire at War comes out - I was toying with the idea of possibly making an Eve mod for it.
Then again, most of my ideas don't really get past the "hey, that would be neat" stage.

Anyone remember when LucasArts stamped down hard on the Star Wars mod for Total Annihilation? Seven years on and you have a great mod for a (still) great game. I've long thought that a UT2004/5/6/whatever Mod would be absolutely great - possibly themed around a caldari "splinterz" deathmatch environment - or using the levels to create assault missions - boarding party capturing a Cruiser and unpluging the pod, or the few crew stopping it, or the likes. That of a HL2 storyline driven game. so many stories that could be done there that lurk in the back of my head, if I had access to the IP and a team able to produce it.
would need a team to work on it, sadly, and having worked in the mod community long enough to know the realities of how hard it is, would never want to try to make that solo....

Yea, it just took yeeears to make. Not that I don't like the SWTA guys, but boy they're slow.
I mean, not like my TC wasn't long in the making, but I actually picked it up and took from 25% done to finished in 5 weeks.
(TA: Dark Suns 2004, for reference)
Anyway, a SE4 (isn't 5 out soon?) mod would be interesting, but I could forsee some issues (yes, done some SE4 modding too :P).
Personally I don't go for derived mods tho, I prefer origional IPs like Dark Suns - or ones I have worked on, like Starfire (which SE draws its lineage from..)

SE4 - most AWESOME 4x game out there..
Would be awesome if eve picked up a few things from there (relating to colony management, population etc).
but eve themed SE4 - shouldn't be too hard to make.
would you want just the ship etc icons? or are you looking for full AI etc?
I've done a couple of shipsets in the past for personal use, but the AI was beyond me.

I want a fully built Hydrulic pod with a Visor and glove controls to play, along with a Direct "Dark Fibre" BroadBand link to the TQ server.
Back on Topic:
I think that a HW/HW2 mod involving EvE would be great. I am prepared to do one but have almost No idea on how to do it.
If anyone here can mod/build units for HW2 then mail/conv me ingame.
4 sides, 2 variants of every ship, each fofilling its role in eve, I.E BlackBird that made the enemys not able to fire very accurately, might be difficult to do drone ships, however you could do it by having the ship "build" the drones then launch them
What would you use as a MotherShip tho? Titan probly?
maybe a Defend the POS/STATION gametype.
Fun Fun Fun!

Hmm.
If I made an EVE TC for Homeworld, should I then expect some Icelanders in pwnmobiles showing up at my house and turning me in to yarrrbq? :O
I guess I'm asking: Is it a violation of the EVE terms of use to extract the game data from EVE and use it in a mod? For example the ship models, textures, names, stats, and so on. OR even just the lore such as names and people and places?
I've done work on some Homeworld mods, and actually working right now on a HW2 mod. The idea of making an EVE TC for HW/HW2 is not a new one for me, but I've always dismissed it as at very least a violation of EVE user agreement, probably copyright infringement to do so.
But now we have a yellow post asking about the very thing... so I guess it's a good time to ask!

I did some digging. See, here is what I'm talking about in the EULA. (http://www.eve-online.com/pnp/eula.asp) Especially the bit about "... create derivative works of, adapt, translate ... any part of the Game Content or User Content"
This appears to totally shut down any crossover EVE mods to other games.

I'm still waiting for CCP to make a real MMOFPS. Huxley isnt gonna do it. And SOE is about to flush the turd that Planetside has become.
It may take a few years, but CCP will come to realise as they did with EVE, that a market is out there, and no one is taking advantage of it.
I think FPS style games account for (just a guess) 1/2 the market? Even Morrowind was done FPS style. People want FPS's, people buy FPS's.
Sorry, but I'm gonna take every chance I get to sing the CCP<->MMOFPS song, becuase I think CCP is the only who could do it right.

Most games, movies and such have anti-mod licences, however most corperations ignore it because it is free advertising. For example: Babylon 5 I found her: http://ifh.firstones.com
As far as the civ 4 mods, we don't have all the tools yet, but it shouldn't take forever :)

I cant find the link to the orignal post, but on a homeworld 2 modification forum someone was disscussing the idea of making a eve mod, but this was quickly disrupted by a mod saying ccp doens't allow anyone to use their creative process (idea, ships, story, etc) for any purpose. And iirc the person who initated the thread emailed ccp asking for permission, but was denied. I was a bit saddend by this because i also wanted a eve mod for hw2, and would have joined project./

Oh man, consider the options of combining those 2... Walking around planets, stations, raiding an enemy's POS with your corpmates, new ships in the form of APC's, air support for groundforces... Damn, I have to stop this now or it'll be all I'm thinking off today

hmm speaking of Civ4, it's on-planet game right? What would the EVE mod backstory be? Like .. In some 0.0 system, all of the stargates have blown up suddenly. One miner trapped in system, who accidently has a bunch of janitors and exotic dancers in his cargo, now has to settle the only habitable planet orbiting the star.
It doesn't sound too promising tbh :)

There is a Star Wars Mod for Operation Flashpoint, so maybe it is possible to make an EVE Mod too

hmm, Anyone ever play Star Wars Supremacy (or Rebellion as it was known everywhere but UK/Europe)? As that would be PERFECT for an EvE based mod.
Again, on a similar line, the Total War series (Think Medieval) would also be great, Turn based for moving units/building and such (each section on the 2d map is a space sector), then a tatical screen for controlling your fleet in realtime in a 3d env.
And on a TOTALLY different approach, perhaps an FPS based on the time when the empires were all at war, I'm thinking such things like being a soldier in part of the army taking over Caldari Prime (could do some cool things like having frigates doing stafing runs on ground targets and flying overhead if you're planetside). Perhaps be a caldari soldier, holding the line then performing a tactical retreat until you reach the transports and get offworld. Probably not tooo difficult using the Source engine (HL2), and could be a giggle.

Never seen so many references to 'traps' and Star Wars without seeing one of these within the first few posts:

Edited by: Deacan Wildfire on 03/02/2006 15:02:48 Speaking of TA earlier, I'll tell ya a game with lots of potential for eve moddage: Supreme Commander.
Much like Eve, this game is gonna have some serious scale. The size difference between the biggest units and the smallest ones is much like the difference between frigates and titans.

I don't know about you guys, but I think an EVE homeworld2 mod would be the greatest thing ever.

I would offer my left testicle if someone made a mod for Eve with this game. The Newtonian nature of this game would bring a completely new tactical element to the Eve universe.

Well, nobody knows how suitable it will be for space TC's. But if it is, I'll be building one.
On an origional IP, not Eve's, sorry.
