Yes I knew the topic would catch peoples eyes :P
And its true. Last 14 day trial (must be at least 6 months ago I think) I got a ship upgrade, went on a deadgate (an easy one even) and got a serpentis item drop. I asked the guild I happened to be in and they went crazy.
I eventually sold it for close to 100 million. I told someone this today and they went crazy too. This never happened to anyone else? I mean not the whole 14 day thing but just ever? Really wish I could remember my accountname :P

Well, I sell Military Connections books at 100 mil a pop and those aren't nearly as rare as people seem to make out.
But well done anyway, I've never managed more than 40 mil on a drop. And that was a T2 implant.

I never get good loot. I'll run into a Mark I cargo expander, maybe the occasional X5 Enervator... but nothing that will sell very much. In 0.0 I got a top named BS laser, was told I could easily get 10 mil for it, but noone has bought it yet.
It's safe to say, that I have the worst luck with loot. I have a station container with my faction loot in it, and I can't seem to get anyone to pay the Faction Price[1] for my faction modules. Of my time playing, I have only found one nice module. An implant helping on a lvl 3 mish. I attacked a silo, blew it up and an implant dropped. I nearly had a seizure, but felt obligated to hand the loot over to the mish runner.
The only real way to get nice loot is to pop other players who have paid for it. Thus far, in my experience, finding get rich quick loot even in 0.0 has not been very fruitful.
[1]Faction Price: The ungodly insane prices you see on any faction item being sold. 80 million dollars for a faction frigate, 110 million for a faction warp jammer, 40 billion for a faction implant... etc.

ratting in 0.0 can make you a ton of money, named spawns can drop some very nice loot, you can easily make 100m a day out there if you know what your doing and have a station that you can go to nearby to drop off loot and get more ammo

Why is it everytime a newcomer to eve comes on and posts about being happy because he just made 100 mil through something he usually wouldnt make money on, a bunch of good eve citizens come on and talk about how much they can make in a minute in 0.0

Do missions by running agents. Collect loyalty points (LP) and claim offers from agents later. 15k LP should give you military connections. ----------------

We know it's out there.
Problem is, older characters seem to consider it their playground, and when new kids try to get there, they break their toys.
I've been to 0.0 5 times. On 3 of those, I lost my ship to gategankers while there. On one, I made it back with a Mammoth full of 2nd-rate 0.0 ores (17 500 m3 of ore, mined with the single Miner II on a Mammoth, which yielded a whopping 42 m3 of minerals when refined), on the other, made it back with my cruiser. Both times I survived I was playing during European morning, when Americans are asleep, and Europeans are at work/school.
So no, we don't forget that 0.0 exists. We just can't get there even if we try.
People who've been in 0.0 since beta seem to forget that THEY are the REASON that the newbies and the "carebears" can't or won't go there. And sorry, our corp doesn't have the 100M ISK membership fee the 0.0 alliances ask for to let the newbies in.

No thanks, the last time I made a mistake of posting anything specific about me or my corp, we had probes from alliances nearby. Nice try though.

Edited by: Andril on 03/02/2006 05:36:14 You dont need to be a old character to go to 0.0, you just need to be part of a good corp, or preferably alliance. Our corp in 0.0 had probably 10-15 noobs, many of who were still in their 2 week trial.
A gang tech 1 frigs are actualy fairly powerful, we had 6 tech 1 frigs piloted by noobs with less than 1 month experiance and 2 tech 1 cruisers flown by 6m-1y old pilots. We took down 2 bs's and a bc, and only lost 1 merlin :D
And for ratting a small gang of frigs can even work out in 0.0, i think we had our noobs in gangs of 3-5, 1 setup for speed with a good tank, the rest setup for gank. It works quite well, other than the fact the cash gets split a bit too much, but for week old noobs, its still better than they could probably do in empire :p

Anyone can hunt in 0.0 if they put their minds to it, I'm in an alliance that doesn't let neutrals into their systems. If a neutral goes to SS I'm not gonna take the time to hunt him, it's not worth it. The people who have trouble in 0.0 either pick a fight, or are too dumb to take neccesary precautions.

You are, of course, absolutely right. All new players are dumb. Only old players are smart. It is stupid to start playing Eve, one should never start, but one should have been playing all along.
These neccessary precautions, what are they? Everyone keeps mentioning them, but they usually turn out to be equipment newbies can't afford or use, or things like instas, which newbies don't yet have.
I can only repeat what I said before: 0.0 space isn't what it was during your newbie years, because back then you weren't a menace there. Now you are. Your alliance which doesn't let neutrals into their system: Are you suggesting people avoid that system to avoid picking a fight, or as a neccessary precaution? Newsflash: This is happening in, oh, all of 0.0. End result: The neccessary precaution to entering 0.0 seems to be not to enter 0.0.

Bongo- I used to be afraid of 0.0. Now I'm more afraid of 0.4, because that's where many systems cross into low sec space and that's where the gate gankers hang out. I find living in low sec easy... but getting in and out unscathed is more difficult

It's one of my biggest carebear money-spinners!
I'm surprised it hasn't been "fixed", really. The base price is so far below the player market price that it makes all the other agent offers pale in comparison. The books always shift within a few hours in Jita.
It's a great leg-up for people like me who joined late; each sale increases the capacity of my battleship production line by one ship. And with each Raven generating 20 mil profit... I'm a happy carebear.

The very point I was about to make.
While 0.0 isn't particularly dangerous, for the reasons already stated in this thread, a cursory glance at the map usually shows gate camps at every 0.4 chokepoint into 0.0. I could take the time to make instas and set up a defensive ship but for as long as there are easy ways around this - drop a bunch of cans around the gate, and I'll lag like a donkey - I've no real incentive to try.
And I've no particular desire to feel pressured into joining a corp just to play in 0.0. That would be a very bad way of choosing the people you most enjoy fighting with. So, for the forseeable future, I'll be one of those sickening carebears making billions in high sec. And proud of it, sorry lads.

did you read my post? our corp had a multitude of noobs that were less than 2 weeks old and we even went on pvp ops with them, and they were successful. They even started their own gangs to rat in 0.0, a group of noobs less than 1 month old.
0.0 is only as unsafe if you are dumb about your actions and dont watch local

This is true, I started living in 0.0 a month into the game and could have started doing it a lot sooner then that. All it takes is paying attention and learning how to adapt. Much more fun out there too.
