The fight in the weapon display was pretty funny as well in that movie. ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

Still one of my favourite fight scenes is from Akira Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress" with Toshiro Mifune's character against the other general. Love that scene, a lot of tension.
There were a few great scenes in Equilibrium too, something a bit different
Reasons why I DONT LIKE ONG BAK! (gasp)
The fight scenes are boring, theres no struggle in the fights at all. All the fights are a picnic for Tony Jaa, he's like a Kick Boxing terminator. its BORING and stupid.
You never get the impression that he might actually be in trouble or out classed. There's no rooting for him as the underdog because hes virtually never in danger. It's just watching him beating the crap out of someone and waiting for the forgone conclusion.
The best bits in Ong Bak were when he was being chased through the streets doing his Jackie Chan impression.
Anybody who mentions The Transporter films should be ashamed :P The second one was atrociously bad.

watch Ong-Bak.
NOW
...
Out of 5 new Asian movies that I have come across per calendar year, I may be lucky to get treated to a nice movie. Funny thing is, some Asian countries that are just about to enter the big world of film making like Thailand can make decent movies without too much special effects.
You have definitely got to agree that older shows like Star Wars using miniature models have much better production than some movies using computerised effects that we see today. It feels so realistic back then compared to now.
You're not listening to me. WATCH ONG-BAK NOW. No wires, no special effects, no CGI, no stunt doubles (besides one 3 second scene), full contact (proper full contact) martial arts through-out. Rubbish story, but omg the fighting .

Saving Private Ryan. See the first fifteen or so minutes of the film after Tom Hanks makes his first appearance.
Cheesy kung-fu's got nothing on storming Fortress Europe. All your fancy kicking and hacking ain't doing squat against an MG42 pumping rounds through your face.

When i was younger, i thought Bloodsport was a good movie. (not so much now)
Bruce Lee=God Him vs Kareem Abduhl Jabar (wrong spelling) was pretty good. Anything with bruce lee is good.
Also, Timmy Vs. Jimmy in southpark was pretty good.

There have been many great fight scenes in movies clear back to the 50's like the first part of the bar fight in the western "Shane" but gotta go with the bar fight in "Once were Warriors" as a representation of how to get it done!

Nobody mentioned Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Indy faces the menacing Egyptian guy with a huge sword?
Best fight scene I've ever watched. ________________________________________________

Then how come so many films have copied and mimicked parts of it?
And they used so much wire work because 90% of the stuff they did couldn't have been done without it. Go train with a group of martial arts masters for 6 months, 18 hours a day, and then try telling me that what your doing sucks.
Oh opinion 4TW!
Please realize: just because lots of people like it doesn't mean it's good. Take That sucked, but there were a lot of boy bands made after their success. The Matrix movies pale in comparison to anything by Bruce Lee or John Woo (pre-Hollywood), mainly because of the lack of authenticity. While it's cool to see someone flying through the air firing guns while cartwheeling with trench coat flying, the mind is overwhelmed by the amount of "oh my god wow" stuff going on. Watch Hard Boiled, Enter the Dragon, or Ong Bak - the fight scenes are done in a highly artistic manner, yet do not rely on overly superhuman characters. Every single bullet in Hard Boiled is important. In the Matrix, the mass amounts of ammunition expended render the gunfights somewhat inane. In Enter the Dragon and Ong Bak, every punch and every kick makes contact, big time. As in, makes you wince. When Tony Jaa slams someone with his elbow, you can see the force of the blow merely in the movements of the bodies. In the Matrix films, you either have hyperfast martial arts that have no mass behind them, or you have way overdone power hits (the final fight between Neo and Smith in the third movie) while just get plain stupid.
Anyway, my current favorite is http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8514518157668120764 from the same director as Ong Bak. Although every gun battle in Hard Boiled is just exquisite.
