First of all: Caldari Tier 3 Battlecruiser HAS to be a Hybrid ship for several reasons. A shame it has the shape of a Megathron, however we might as well show the gallente scum how it's done...
Second: If not all the battlecruisers gets it I'd imagine CCP using the Marauder method to enable the Oracle firing large lasers without having to buff their capacitor beyond sane capacity.
All ships looking fine except the excessive amount of engines on the Oracle. I can't however wait to fly those babies if the large guns can track what I'm aiming at. I wonder if they get a role bonus for tracking?
My only concern is how they will fit in the role of massive dps and little tank when the tier 2 BC's (like hurricane) are already capable of delivering near equal dps to many battleships while also being able to focus that dps on smaller ships.

bug anyone else that it has lots of thrusters in the top and none at the bottom so at full thrust the thing wouldnot be able to fly straight?
Please add a bottom thruster. I have actually Un-subbed my acounts, We need more to do, not more to wear. E-mail me when CCP has decent content a casual player can access in a 1-2h play period that is actually fun and contributes to long term goals. |

Thrusters need to act on the bulk of the ship, it's not hard to design these things so they at least look like they'd fly in a straight line rather than spinning in circles I'm not with you. There's so many things in ship design that is not logical for a variety of reasons. It's better the ship look sexy as hell. And then again, we have alot of people whining about non-symmetrical ships too. I love non-symmetrical ships. It's like they usually say about fantasy MMO's and men playing female characters: "If I'm going to spend alot of time watching this character, it might as well have a good looking ass".
No, I'm sorry but violating child-level physics is not one of the things we just ignore for the sake of questionable aesthetic improvements. If you push a block of wood along a table at one end, you don't expect it to do anything other than spin, every single person alive over 6 years old understands this. Asymmetric ships are fine, as long as the thrusters are based where they should vaguely be (all ships are asymmetric along at least one axis). The Kestrel is a reasonable example of this, where there is a large bulk off centre, it has it's own thruster to even things out.
Your argument for ignoring the physics is 'it might as well look good'. The original render for the Mentor only has two, maybe three thrusters, and it looks GREAT. Adding all those extra ones to the top half is going to make it look ******* ridiculously when you're flying it, remember engine trails are coming back, you're not going to see anything other than a blue-white bloomtacular mess if you look at the ship from any angle 'behind' it. Ditch the bloody top thrusters.

Thrusters need to act on the bulk of the ship, it's not hard to design these things so they at least look like they'd fly in a straight line rather than spinning in circles I imagine, that the weight distribution of the ship was designed in such a way that it would work, after all we can't see all the funky, flashy parts and lights and machineries that make that nifty piece of faith enforcing space ship work. EDIT: besides all those nice little thruster in the upper half could just be there to enable better ship spinning, or did You see any other maneuver thrusters?
Maneuvering thrusters are generally omitted, I'd prefer it if they weren't, obviously, but it's standard practice in eve not to bother with them. If the extra thrusters on the Oracle were BELOW the centre point, I might be able to excuse it considering that ships orbit with their 'top' orientated into the target. The thrusters would be in the right place to make it orbit like they actually do then, as they are, they'd work AGAINST it, which is even more absurd than just pretending we don't need maneuvering thrusters.
E man Industries wrote:bug anyone else that it has lots of thrusters in the top and none at the bottom so at full thrust the thing wouldnot be able to fly straight?

Yes, immensely, but I'm in favour of removing the superfluous thrusters rather than adding MOAR to it, it looks like it'll be a mess with the engine trails and whatnot already, adding more doesn't seem like the solution to me.

/agree with "wtfphysics" group, apart from that it looks GREAT but the engines do bug me.
As for the caldari thread-jack... the BC in anticipated torp-mode sounds like it could be a return to some of the old "Surprise! Have some death!" tricks cruisers used to be able to pull with the original missile systems (oh, trying to kite me? Have fun running away from some cruise missiles. Oh, now you're trying to jam me? Have FoF Cruises, ******!). "highly effective" or not, should still be much fun. |

Not true, momentum, inertia, force, etc are all still in full effect. Astronaut's still have to push off the walls to move around in the ISS.
To clarify, the three large and three small thrusters in the centre mass are fine, but the extra 20 smaller thrusters at the top are just silly, and I imagine will look a mess in game. |

There are 20 thrusters plus the six that make sense if I recall correctly. The trails from all that would be a bloody mess, it'd end up as a massive blue-white blob in the middle of the screen from anything but the front. Look at the original drawing, it looks great with just 2/3 trails. |

Ok, now I have been on sisi (today)
Happily the sidething, which I complained about earlier, appears to be gone - or at least it is on my settings. +1
And the bonus to energy turret usage is actually -75% effectively as espected, though it takes BC V to get there, which is a much steeper SP investment than Cruiser V (thinking of the harbinger, to obtain similar cap). However, this does not go hand in hand with Ytterbiums talk in the latest video. I suggest moving it to 10% per cruiser instead of 10% per BC (since you only need those two at III to get into it), but I would really prefer it being a flat -75% role bonus, unless you are really desperate to force people away from amarr (or force them into taking BC5 and fly commandships).
3 mids is not happy happy at all, for all the usual reasons.
Overall visual is ok so far, I just don't like the airgap between the 2 triangular sideplates (on either side) and the main hull, but that is almost nitpicking. So far only the 6 center engines glow. Try to keep it like that. Those 14 round things higher up would be way too much as engine exhausts. They would really steal too much of the show from the lazers, quite apart from the inyourface annoyance when not zoomed out.
Combatwise, I am not convinced yet. To me it is screaming for a 4 hardpoint setup with a 100% bonus to large energy turrets. And so far i pretty much stand by the somewhat heretical view of generalizing that quite a bit as mentioned previously, granting all the tier3 battlecruiser complete flexibility in picking large guns: fitting bonus to all gun types 4 hardpoints with 100% to large guns of any type energy use bonuses as needed.
Anyway, in its current state, I do not see why you would not take (or train for) a geddon/apoc/ tornado instead. |
