Ishquar Teh'Sainte	Posted - 2006.02.04 11:16:00 - [4] <- uhm ... ... ... disclaimer: though i sometimes use "leetspeak" (more in the "setting a funny highlight through known context-thingy") my name has nothing to do with it ... it was only a typo which looked "cool" [<- ] ... sorry mate, but sometimes it is necessary to use some abbreviations ... and on the topic of leetspeak - here's a quite good wikipedia article ... and to be honest leetspeak is a slang (for some a quite annoying one) but slang is also a possibility to indentify with a certain group - allmost every culture out there (and especially subcultures) uses such slangs for group identification ... the restriction of language can be seen as an oppression of certain groups ... so, if you are annoyed by people using leetspeak - ignore them or tell them your opinion about at the moment when they use it .. Obviously you don't realize that at least 1/3 of the people that play this game didn't learn English as their first language. You can't expect someone from Germany to speak perfect English, just as they can't expect you to speak perfect German. I called him to ask if it was a joke, he didnt seem to know it wasn't considered good English. I advised him to go back to school or take an english course.

Ok, I understand there are some combat situations when you need to pass information very quickly and don't have TS available. But we are talking about forum posts, casual in game chat and evemails. After all, while language gets more obscure, it requires more attention just to figure out what has been said.

If you are meaning me ... i didn't say i decided to use this typo "to look cool", i decided to use this typo because it looked "cool" to ME ... there's a difference - it's more like "well this word has a certain shape on the paper/flow when spoken" - in my case i liked the "shape" of my name ... well i know the choosen words were a bit misleading ... the usage of the term "cool" can be discussed (but hey - look at the smileys ) but it's all about language and words - stop harrasing people who approach to language on a different vector btw - another word i like because of it's appearance: nausea _________________________________________ waiting for signature...
