The IP address that Jim posted is a Road Runner cable modem in the Wilmington, North Carolina area (if it helps at all). Good luck getting any useful response from [email protected] - if you do then you'll be the first person I've ever heard of who got anything other than an automated email.

Edited by: agrizla on 30/08/2003 13:47:05 Quakenet goes a tad further - it masks your hostname but only if you're authed*. Being authed means you are traceable - well up to a point anyway.
*As far as I can remember - or possibly not

Edited by: agrizla on 30/08/2003 14:48:45 You obviously don't use Quakenet that much
Try /mode set +x or if your IRC client is crap then try /raw mode set +x. Put it in your buffer after authing and before joining a channel.
Now would you care to admit you're totally wrong
And unless CCP run stratics what the hell does this have to do with them? Jim got DoS'd from IRC, not in-game. The two may be related but I fail to see why CCP should be getting involved in this.

No offence (or false modesty) but they couldn't afford me They'd have to pay me double what I currently earn to even contemplate doing end-user support anyway - that way lies madness

Edited by: agrizla on 30/08/2003 14:55:54 Yes but he talks about knives a disturbing amount of times Edit - a preponderance to violent and sadistic acts is something that is well-known to occur with people who do end-user support

Anyway - sorry for taking it off-topic.
Jim should be contacting his ISP and [email protected] initially. They should be the ones dealing with this, not CCP. He'll get nowhere with Road Runner so hopefully this idiot is flooding him with enough traffic that it's causing problems at the local end of his cableco. If that is the case then his ISP should be talking directly to Road Runner. Hell, you never know - they may actually get a response.
