It's there for the game lore.
But don't worry, it's always hip in the industry to screw over established game lore for the sake for $$$ so expect CCP to do something silly with Jove space just to retain/attract more players (and then wonder why the numbers drop, silly execs).

As far as jumping out, yeah they fixed that shortly after the introduction of Black ops.

They're there a) for game lore, to give us a back story and b) as a mysterious region/race that can be called up and used when they get desperate for content, i'm pretty sure there would be a lot of players who would resub just to see it if they ever brought the jovians out of mothballs and that's what ccp count on, it's their last ditch card. |

The jove's will be withheld for a long time, providing rich storyline speculation fluff, and serving to tease players till that moment of desperation when EvE is so stale that they can throw down the trump card, releasing Jovian ships, and Jovian avatars, along with Jovian technology. That move alone would suck a ton of people back in, so don't expect to see it anytime soon. Its their "break glass in case of emergency" content.
I wouldn't be suprised if they already have ships, missions, and avatars tested, modelled, updated, and in "the vault" Hilmar probably has a jump drive around his neck that he can drop into tranquility at any time should subscriber numbers fall below a certain critical level. |

The Jove are actually deeply involved in Eve's story line. Go have a gander at the Eve Fiction section (probably best looking at the old forums for now) to get an idea of what CCP are up too.
It's just a shame the actual story isn't accessable easily or on a casual basis. |

IIRC, CCP said that they will EVENTUALLY open up the Jove regions in a future expansion. Other lolrp possibilities for creating new space is to open up the EVE gate, to give us access back to Terran space.
Of course, EVE has probably diverted immensely from CCP's original 10-year "vision" for EVE, so no idea if they will actually do this or not. |

omg...after i stopped laughing....i remembered this nite i had with this Jove guy....he was all like your pretty and stuff....then I gave him a nite he wont forget. But he never called.... So now I am hurt and twisted with rage......we need to burn Polaris to the ground.
Also they may have some better shopping in Jove space...and my space barbie is looking for Prada shoes or a nice Tiffany bracelet.
