Because C+P is where some of the most extravagant personal attacks, harrasment and bullying occur

Albeit cloaked in the mystery of pseudo "trolling" and "meme's"......

In EvE, general game play includes scamming, strong arming, exploitation, suicide ganking, and what most players consider, harassment of your character as long as its done for in-game goals (profit, system control, market control, etc).

Harassment of your character is NOT the same thing as harassment of your person.

In EvE, personal attacks (call people racial slurs, RL harassment like posting nude photos of their mom, hunting down their Facebook profile and slandering them there, etc) are bannable offenses.

In EvE, inciting someone to commit suicide is a bannable offense. Furthermore, if CCP catches wind of players that suggests they are going to "commit suicide", it is my understand CCP makes sure to contact their local authorities and escalate the situtaiton. Really, CCP should ban anyone that professes such a thing in game, because they obviously are mentally ill-prepared to play this game.

P.S. Cyberbullying is the harassment of your person, in cyberspace. Harassment of your in-game character, especially harassment that doesn't leave the gaming environment (which includes EvE fansites as long as they direct it at your CHARACTER), is NOT cyberbullying.

You lose ships. It happens. But when it comes to stalking or flat out verbal abuse or DOXing or some **** like that where it spills out of the game?

Yeah brah, its not. But therein lies the problem. Its a game. It doesnt "spill out" of the game. If it does, you are taking things way too seriously. If your not having fun, quit. Nobody is being forced to play this.

Also, anyone who is stupid enough to post their personal information to EVE is exactly that. Stupid. Social media is a plague. Nobody needs to know what your doing at all times of day/night, and if your a ganker/miscreant in EvE, its probly not a good idea to post your home address and contact information, because some people are just batshit crazy.

Will it work? Perhaps so at a National/local level.

How will they deal with international bullies via Social Networks and even MMO's like Eve Online?

Will this be the precedent for the rest of the Western World to create and enforce these laws across the board?

If so.... What will happen to Goons, The Mittani and other people who feel harrasment, personal insults and incitement of suicide are just plain old sandbox fun and games? No mad, no sad, no bad...............

I've copped a fair amount of personal abuse, attacks and absolute defamation and utter bullshyte from many a player in this game.. would I consider it worth having someone actually charged and put in jail over....

In some cases, absolutely not, I am fully aware of how pathetic some players are and how much attention they crave..

In a few other cases, yes... Some of the personal abuse, private emails and threats I have received, I believe those few people are quite sick and deserve to spend a few months in jail contemplating their personality disorder.

Overall..... Maybe this would be a good thing for Facebook and other social network sites.... but EvE?

Perhaps just a few tweaks here and there to what we already have is needed... but outright jail sentence if a few people get their feathers ruffled... I am not so sure.

It comes down to interpretation and some softies considering the smallest slight, their biggest affront.....

you would think so but GM really do not care, if some one posts your IP address, DDOS you, posts your email address links to your Facebook profile and generally act like a creepy stalker.

now if they say they are gonna hunt you down and beat you outside the game they do care tho...

Truth is, I'm not sure posting your IP address crosses any line. Many larger corps use IP addresses to hunt down spies, and this is very much considered part of the meta game.

DDOS are illegal most places, and I'm certain CCP doesn't support it. At the same time, I think such activity is generally beyond the ability of CCP to verify, and hence they don't have any grounds to levy bans.

Also, how exactly are people ascertaining your email address and facebook profiles, unless they are linking those to their character. Character harassment is generally acceptable within limits, while player harassment is not acceptable. Players that blur the line, by linking your character, corp, and alliance on facebook, posting their email in their character bio, must accept those modes of communication then become about the character, not about the player. There is still a line, like you can harass a character to an unacceptable and punishable level, but you also need to have some thick skin on the matter.

it is not exactly hard to find emails of people who have played this game for years.

i know for a fact my email was leaked by an ISD forum mod way back when. All the email address' of people who had a forum warning was leaked. Also most people have a Skype handle (Skype has crappy security) for external communication where part or their hole eve name is used to separate game from normal use.

When you get hold of peoples email address, it is not exactly rocket science to look up what is linked to that email address.

There is nothing acceptable about "blurring" the lines.

The bottom line is that CCP cant enforce anything about skype, hotmail, or facebook. Nothing says you need to use ANY of those in game, and they are not part of the game in any way supported by CCP. How players use these, and how they distribute their information, is up to them. I understand that in your case, the email was leaked, and there really isnt a relavent fix for that. But it wont be the norm.
