If you haven't noticed by now, our Senior Producer has a particular style that is all his own and that style infuses everything that he touches. You can read a forum post and say, "yup, Oveur wrote that" or hear him talking in a crowded room and immediately identify him. His Dev blogs are no different.
Oveur has written a new Dev blog. Not only will you find information about the upcoming Bloodlines patch (deployment date TBA), and a preview into the patch notes, you will also find a teaser about some new Tech 2 information, server team travel plans, some insight into what has been going on behind the scenes in the CCP offices, and in typical Oveur fashion, some insight into Icelandic traditions and culture.
So, there you have it. A new blog with plenty of news and information to kick off your weekend and celebrate the 100,000 subscriber milestone. Even if Brennivfn isn't your thing, help us celebrate this weekend by raising a glass of your favorite beverage and say a small toast for Tranquility.

Quote: Added the ability to turn off damage message displays. This will make combat alot smoother when you are being engaged by multiple hostiles
Will the log still record like usual?

Patience young Jedi, quickly clicking links is one of the first steps on the path to the dark side.
With the new system we have for publishing Dev blogs, I have to write the forum post announcing the blog, hit the post reply button, grabbed the thread ID number, go over to the Dev blog edit page, paste the thread ID number in, then click the publish box and the blog goes live.
I guess I just need to work on my clicking skills.

This is done to address database performance issues with so many items in the same location. As a further improvement, you can also disable the automatic locking of items which you put inside secure and station containers.
This is all good but will these stacked containers be remotely searchable (maybe with a switch option)? If not, this could be a pain for the obsessive compulsives :). If so, sweet!
Good work anyway... Enjoy (!?!) ¦orri

And you've added the ability to search inside containers, right? And to search corp assets? (corp assets particularaly concern me here - being forced tp use unsearchable containers would be extremely unhelpful).
What happens to existing locations with more items?
"Damage controls will now correctly increase your hull resistance (structure tanking anyone?)"
Bleargh. I have expressed what I believe this will do to frigate balance before. Unbalanced.
"Cargo containers that do not belong to you are now yellow, not red"
UGH! I use yellow, not red, for -10*. This change will be confusing for me. User set colour plz. Plus have you fixed the bug where overview colours are applied to cans in definance of overview settings?
(*blah blah standard settings. No thanks. I'm using a feature which CCP introduced and which I find very useful. So no, I won't use standard settings)
As for stacking and ship changes, there are no details - I'm guessing patch notes are Soon(TM) for that?
Finally, CCP, I personally want to give you Ç40. I want to be able to change my character as a one-off (until Kali?) to the new bloodline. I'm not the only one, by far. Otherwise, afaik, it's a useless feature for me (market alts race hardly matters).

Will the new patch include a fix for the resFace.stuff file? As you know, the most recent patch caused problems for a lot of people in the form of game crashes and graphics foul ups. So far, I have managed to sidestep the problem by reverting my resFace.stuff file to the previous version, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that the old file would cause a number of problems once the new bloodlines go in.

Edited by: SpaceDrake Storyteller on 10/02/2006 17:19:38 This is the Dev Blog of Happiness. Blood sounds like it's going to be a killer patch (even if Khanid still need to be balanced a touch) and I'm glad to hear them acknowledge that communication has dropped off a bit and they'll be picking it up a bit more. After seeing some disasters like this, it makes me appreciate all the more how special and unique a crew the CCP devs are.

It needs a wholesale revision. Add faction missiles, and make T2 amo secondary effects, not damage.

I did it last year, and it's not something I'm looking to repeat. Still, I'm generally of the opinion you should give cultural dishes a go at least once.
PS. Turning off damage messages will disable the combat logs as well. We'll be looking more closely at the issues we found and will revaluate in the future. Results will vary, with the worst performance in this being when you're the target of focus fire, and under heavy CPU load already - I suggest testing the differences yourself and then deciding if / when you want it on and off.

Yes, that's the same issue and should be solved, in addition to a couple of other crash bugs.
