After reading around several different articals form old and new forums about Eve, It seems that the Moa was once a bit of a legend.
Being relatively new to the game, I have been flying a Merlin. I have spent my time training and honing my skills for this particular ship. I now know the merlin and it's capabilities intimately.
In fact, I can handle any scenario thrown at me when ratting in 0.4 alone.
(that is not me bragging BTW, only a testament to how good and hardy the Merlin actually is)
Ok, so to cut a long story short..... I have been summoned to war by our corporation and I have come to realise that although a good ship the Merlin may be, I just cannot see it being effective enough in the PvP war scenario. (especially as we will be massively outnumbered).
So...... After a lot of thought and taking into account my experience and skills, I have decided to buy myself a Moa.
I'm sorry for the essay, really I'm just after some oppinions of this ship and wether I have made the right choice.
Your thought's and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

's ok but you better flying a blackbird - cost less and is alot more effective in an ew support role

I moved from my destoryer to a Moa and have really enjoyed it a lot. I use it to run the lvl 2 missions that my destroyer was just not up to the task of doing.
I am a miner/refiner/build by profession, so the combat skills are just not really high.
I have just complete training to enable me to fly a Ferox so am currently getting equipment to kit that up and am looking forward to it.
I stay away from the PvP stuff, so only go to low sec if I am with a group. I have already lost a couple of ship, when doing it myself.
So good luck with your new rig.

I can imagine in a BS fleet the Moa fits in perfectly.

tbh I always thought moas were pretty crap
you might want to have a look at the caracal - it can dish out some good damage at very good range, and you don't have to worry about tracking.

The moa only really comes to light with caldari cruiser at level 4. But yes its one of my favourite cruisers.
One of the, if not the THE best mission running cruiser.
In PVP I am always short of 1 medium slot though, with it only having 4. If its PVP your going for the moa can tank and do damage, just not lock the opponent down, therefore its a support role, unless you can fit some sort of decent tank an afterburner and warp jammer.
Oh and 0.4 ratting in a moa is quite deadly. You can warp out pretty quick in a merlin, but the moa is quite slow and clumsy, just a word of warning to ya :)
Great cruiser. Get one. Realise you need some anti-frig modules on thier, fit them and run lvl2 missions with ease.
Also the ferox has the same bonuses as the moa! If you can afford it get a ferox. Much more versatile. :)

Depends on what you are doing with them. For me Osprey's are by far the best, but that's because I play the support guy. 10% lower cap for shield transports and 5x the range on them makes my job far easier.
Anything with range can take me out granted, but being able to pump up someones shield from 35k behind them and being able to run 2 T2 transporters almost non stop rocks. Wish it had a bigger drone bay tho, but I guess 5x medium shield drones on top of the cap/range bonus would be overboard.
Plus I don't have to change ships for mining ops, just slap on a couple T2 mining lasers and I can mine while still being able to lob missles at rats.

Stick with your merlin for PVP and use a Moa for PVE. You will loose Moas (or any other ship) repeatedly in PVP, and if you've never even flown one before then I'm guessing you cant afford to loose several and moas are the most expensive caldari cruiser. Train up micro warp drives and put one on your merlin, along with nanofibers and warp scramblers. Make sure you've got at least several equipped and insured frigates ready to go, when you get blown up dock and hop into a new one.

"In PVP I am always short of 1 medium slot though, with it only having 4."
Was asked to turn Moa into 6-5-3 layout as part of tech.1 ships revision, but it's just not meant to be :<

How does a Moa compare to a Maller in PvP? Both get bonuses to either shields or armor resistance.

I love the moa. Main thing i use it for is killing haulers on gates or if im runing low on isk it works pretty well in a fleet. I have caldari criuser to 5 so i can fit a mean tank on it, but like the guys say for 1 vs 1 it sucks missing 1 med slot to do anythign in solo-pvp but if your in a group its lovly
