After destroying my frigate (while I was taking on two BCs) an E.V.I.L-Eye pilot proceeded to take out my pod... by the time the convo request went through, my pod was at half hull.
I asked how much, the pilot asked for 1mil, I said done, he fired. He gave me no time to transfer the funds.
Corps like this are the reason no one pays or even attempts to pay ransoms anymore. You complain about stupid carebears and new players who won't fund your illegal business practices... well E.V.I.L-Eye is the reason.

If you didn't send him the money that's not really ransom-breaking. Sometimes the pirate has to flee from the scene then he's going to pop you first and in some cases he pops you just as you pay the ransom, but they (usually) refund then

Okay, sounds like poor pirates to me... Thanks for the info.

Forgive me... for being somewhat new to the "etiquette" of piracy... but isn't acting as if you are holding someone for ransom, then immediately podding them before they ever have an opportunity to pay it a rather underhanded tactic? I mean, I do thoroughly expect pirates to be underhanded, and completely without honor, so don't get me wrong. However, from my own, admittedly limited perspective, it seems that acting as if you are going to accept a ransom just long enough to pod someone isn't exactly living up to "honor among thieves", to borrow a phrase.
If someone were to attack me, and then halt my own immediate retaliation by asking me for a ransom.. and then, as I'm fumbling around the interface to transfer the money, after I agreed to the terms, said person were to pod me, when I had never attacked them back... I might be inclined to think that the offer of letting me go for a ransom was not actually genuine.

That is breaking ransom in my view and why I do not trust pirates anymore for ransoms. When they convo, I just block and move on.
I had a similar situation with a pirate. He Convo'd, offered a ransom, I said fine sending, and after transferring the isk he podded and laughed and took off. Never again.
I keep my clone up to date, use inexpensive implants, and fly inexpensive ships when ratting in low sec (unless I am with a group).

Edited by: RavenL0rd on 10/02/2006 23:33:27 Maybe it would seem to be a trick to lure you into ceasing fire by offering a ransom but think about it a bit and you'll see it wouldn't be a smart thing to do.
First to make them cease fire you have to stop firing yourself first. Why would anyone bother tocease fire aand all the while tank damage just to blow the victim up anyway. It'd make no sense to do that on purpose.
And usually pirates only ransom when the target is into structure alredy, why the hell would they waste time if they 're just there for the fireworks?

Your making a potentially incorrect assumption that the pirate involved was smart, and was doing things that made sense. I tend to not make that initial assumption about people.

Sicex next time someone ransoms your pod, especially if you have no implants (or cheap ones), consider pod bumping his ship over and over again. Give him a good solid 'No.' and then activate your self destruct sequence.
Come to think of it, even if you have implants just follow the above. If they already have you down into hull then there is no reason for them to not just fire a single volley to finish you. Pod ransoming to me was always idiotic in the first place, sure the player may have expensive implants but due to the already fragile nature of the situation (scrambling a pod without protection) there is nothing to stop that backstab. Smart pilots shouldn't pay for it because the chance of someone actually releasing a defenceless pod is less likely than someone releasing your ship, only to blow it up, but not being able to get your pod.
Something else I love doing is ejecting from the ship once they get me into hull and then warping my pod off. They aren't ready to lock the pod and I don't get the explosion lag, so it's a free 'get out of jail' card. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

That's BS The pirate couldn't even type out "whoops" and we expect him to not have fired on purpose? The "whoops" itself means he only saw that she would pay -after- he opened fire. The guy was looking to take out the pod, and thus why he only ransomed for one million isk as a nice bonus.
Sicex, please post the convo logs from your EVE folder so that we can review the timestamps. It sounds like you sent the ISK, he saw the flashing (that's important, hard to miss that flashing icon) icon, and popped you. ------------------- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin |

Idiot what kind of fool gets a person who says they will pay a ransom and then pods before the money gets into his hand. Personaly I would have waited 15 seconds gave a final warning and then if I didn't get the money in 10 seconds would have popped the pod. I mean people who pay ransom's are few and far between recently. So for him to go screw free money let's pop him is bad business imo. ----------

Personally i dont see any problem with breaking ransom agreements, if ur a pirate u could say ur roleplaying an evil player (and evil ppl lie) .... the simple fact is, if u get money out of them, then pop there ship its a double win. But the main point is its just a game and pirate honor dont mean squat..... just take each attack as a new one, and take ur own risks. (but personally i dont ransom, to eagar to pop there ships ) YARR!!!

Do NOT pay ransoms. Although not all pirates in EVE are griefing idiots, way too many are, and it has only gotten worse over the last month.
Either eject while you still have a ship around you or just blow your own pod up. They want to see you go 'boom'? Then do just that.
If I'm in dangerous space it's MY problem if something bad happens to me. I'm not about to leave my fate in the hands of some boob who may or may not honor ransoms.

I just wish people would pay ransoms.
I'm usually very generous on my costs. It doesn't take much for me to operate, so I'm usually pretty light on the ransom amount, but only one person has paid.
And I absolutely honor that, I even told the guy I ransomed I'd escort his pod a few jumps after the timer if he'd like. He kindly declined and went his way.
It's also a rule for my corp and any I'm allied with that if you dishonor a ransom, you get podded and the corpse goes to your victim(s). As well as any bounty you had. I may be evil, but I prefer good business. It brings return customers.

As a a month old character the 1 million ISK ransom was worth paying to save my 100 million ISK implants that expedited my learning.
The 'done' in the convo was said immediately after he gave me a number and it was mutually understood that it was referring to agreement on the amount for the ransom, not the completion of the transaction.

Ahh....but I never intend to pay a ransom in the first place, and my corp might just get away with scrambling and popping the pirate.
I'm not bothered losing a ship or a pod, neither of them have much value in them with me I'm afraid to say. All cheap-o stuff that does the job it needs to, and no implants. Best way to play, no aggrivation if you die.

Some pirates honor ransoms, some don't. If your gonna pay a ransom, just gotta take that chance. I've only paid one ransom (was earlier), and that was because i was given a good fight, wasnt any smack involved.... and while my pod was in the process of slowly being killed i realized my clone was in 1.0 space, and my sec status is -3.8, so yea
but the pirate that ransomed me (well, i offered the ransom, but beats being in 1.0 space w\ my sec status) honored his deal and let me go after i deposited the cash. went on my merry way to purchase a shuttle to get the heck out. And i myself have honored my end of the pod ransom (was a 30 day old player, really not worth the sec hit). So not all pirates are gonna go back on their deal. If any do, name and shame on the forums, if i see 'em i'll kill them or die trying

While I *always* honor ransoms, the mortality rate for those who don't accept my convos is 100%. And the pod. I *always* pod someone who cancels my convo. Furthermore, the more smacktalk, the more I do repeat business on their ships.
But people who are polite I have respect for, and usually won't pirate twice. At least not in the same week ;)
