Go read the scope forum its bloody amazing finally we don't need to listen to propoganda by corps. Please keep up the good work and maybe get a few more reporters as it would be nice to get it daily (i would even pay the isk cost to get it sent ingame)

Edited by: Snoop on 31/08/2003 21:59:15 the Scope reports might aswell be SPY's yes lets say how big the fountain fleet is and exactly where they are camped while RUS and Sinister are still near by DOH!
btw i hope people dont get banned if they kill the reporter's its obviously going to happen if they carry on giving away fleet size's and locations while the area's are still active

Edited by: Snoop on 31/08/2003 22:28:05 CCP arent suposed to intervent in any player stuff or i would hope they wouldnt. having there stupid polaris people in conflict zone's giving away locations and fleet sizes can result in people's losing ship's and any tactical advantage you did have until they post about it on the forum why shouldnt i whine?
it would be a different story if you was orgnaizing a large fleet somewhere and a DEV or GM told the enemy ships about it..
the least the polaris reporters should do is to wait until the area is clear before posting any information that can help either side.. EDIT Singha Miasong why are you hiding behind an ALT?

I'm sure, as a roleplayed news corporation, members of "The Scope" would not be at any location unless they have had an ingame tip-off from another player.
Personally, I welcome the addition of a big name news conglomerate - finally a good bit of flavour to the EVE world, taking into account current player-led conflicts and actions. --

Considering how news gets around in the in-game chat and e-mail, not to mention the out of game sources such as TeamSpeak I doubt Scope is reporting any secrets not already known by all involved.

No, I don't Wrangler. Asking me that is an insult, you are basicly saying that I am full of hate and this is not a good character attribute at all.
But I am used to high quality news and articles not this amateur stuff posted there. Either you quote people and write stuff covered by facts and not assumptions or you do some yellow press ficition, which is that what Polaris members are currently doing.
Call it "The Polaris Bild" or "The Polaris Sun" and add some big pictures with big head lines, but stop letting it look like a objective, unbiased form of news.

Might be, but there is something like a quality of articles. And the articles based on facts have a higher quality.
The venal article is full of stupid assumptions, the facts would tell a completly different story, but I am too lazy to waste any time on commenting it, you can't even do a reply there. Every good news service on the Internet allows it.

No, I will not waste any time on Polaris people doing spelling mistake posts and calling other people hateful.
Intelligent readers do not comment unintelligent and biased articles to improve them. They read intelligent and unbiased articles and call the others unintelligent and biased. There is enough good stuff out there.
Since I didn't know the quality of the Polaris publictiations I had to read one. I will not do it again and you will not get any further comments on this :-).

thats why in a war footing you destroy all noob corp people in noob ships who enter the region. the same as we killed there scorpion that seemed to be scouting around. i dont care if they have other intel or not polaris or CCP shouldnt do anything that may help minimize casualties on either side in a conflict.. that may well have been very valuable knowlege for the attacking force and maybe the reason why they left the region rather than fight.

A fine piece of reporting. With regards to some of the criticism here, I agree that details of an incident should be kept hidden until the said incident is over. I do not know where or not The Scope personell did that. As for knowing where to go to report on these incidents, come on anyone who plays the game knows that pf-346 and FD-*** (cant remember the rest of the system name) are hotspots with something always going on. Obviously they have "Bild" quality. They feed the "TTI bought SI their battleships"-bias e.g. Feeding a bias is a technique commonly used by "Bild".
Every kid does know that most non-TTI VA members have bought their ships from Techell, because they have better prices than TTI and a very good service. As for SI, we always were able to count our battleships on one hand only and it took us longer to get some than the traditional mining/trading corps and we had to do a lot of mining/trading (also with alts) to go to there, otherwise no one of us would be in a battleship. Pirating itself doesn't enable you to fly the best ship in a short time.
Mixing TTI's finacial power, which doesn't play a big role in the VA at all anyway (they are capitalistic individuals), and pirates getting their battleships from TTI (which is fiction) and making it an argument for an attack on the VA by pirate corps like Evolution and CoC to harm the other pirates like SI to hinder their activity is rather funny to me.
Evolution and friends are attacking because they are bored with the game!
BORED. Nothing else, and it is a very valid argument to fight out of boredom to have some cool action.
No need to blow it up into a story full of assumptions and so on. Especially not when CCP is doing it, it haves a kind of official look then.

one of the post's said: exactly how big the fountain alliance fleet was. which system it was in. exactly which station it was outside. while rus and sinister was still in the region for 2 hours after that was posted.
is it really that hard to wait until the region is clear before posting such detailed information? i think not. maybe it was a one off thing that will not happen in the future reports made by the SCOPE. i certainly hope such valuable information will not be posted again while places are still hot spot's.

I think it's much more funnier with a full blown story you can speculate about and discuss.
But then... that's me.
I agree that I'd rather see a player, and not volunteer driven news service, but up until now they all failed, probably because the people running them faced too much negative publicity. But that's speculation on my side.
And other people are facing that, too... I think I don't have to tell you anything about that, Molly. :/
So it wouldn't be a real reason to quit.
I think running a news service is atm too much effort for start-ups. Maybe we need something like IRL? News agencies providing the news and then news services publishing articles, maybe after gathering some extra info. But then the service would have to cost ISK. -------------------------------------- Sarela "Eurydike" Taris

<ponders> Wait.... there was a war in real life just recently... and if I remember correctly, they actually took reporters in with the troops... I wonder how much that hurt them... hmm, I wonder how that worked? <ends pondering>
News reporters get themselves in all kinds of situations and put themselves in great danger all the time. The usually get tips from someone at the scene watching what's about to go down. It happens in wars, high-speed chases, hostages situations, etc..
I think that if the newscasts are done in that sort of manner here it would be quite realistic. If polaris news reporters get a tip from someone, they can go check it out. If you want to amass a fleet in secret, you'll need to have people keep it on the down low.
As far as being entirely unbiased, that would be very hard if not impossible to achieve. But at least a neutral position in the activity increases the chance that there will be honest reporting. I'm glad to see a couple different sources popping up now. Another cool idea would to be having someone posting headlines on a Headline News channel or something like that.

Yes polaris are players, which is also where part of the problem will arise. Players don't see things from a neutral point of view, as the Venal alliance editorial shows. Obviously it being an editorial one can assume it will contain personal views but the problem arises when those personal views are connected with the polaris volunteer name, and via said name with CCP. It gives those opinions a form of officiality because they are afterall posted into a restricted area by someone who is doing volunteer work for CCP.
As molly said the venal editorial is where the problem starts. There are unaccuracies and other information and misinformation in the article and regardless of how you look at it there is also a CCP connection to those. It also puts a difference between the reporter and the corps ingame. As we've seen with other news organisations so far(with them being part of the ingame situations) there has always been ways for corps to act and react to these. They were alive so to speak ingame. If I don't like the MDW or INO or whoever else makes news I can always go to war with them, kill them, put a bounty on them and so forth. With the Scope there is no such option, in essence they are an entity that is as much out of game as the GMs are. That in itself is no problem, atleast not until the thing happens and I notice that the Scope indeed isn't posting pure facts and verified chatlogs but opinions in form of editorials and other personal views on things. I'd like it about as much if TomB, Pann or Hellmar came onto the forums and posted their personal views on ingame events...

Ask three witnesses to a crime what they saw and they will give you three different stories.
Which one of them, oh wise and omnipotent sage, is the one with the "true facts"?
The Policeman, the 'irish catholic disabled single-mother of 14' or the CEO of TTi?
Bias is invariably little to do with the writer and everything to do with the reader... unfortunately not everybody realises that "true fact".

Whilst riddled with errors (eg reports of my podding are somewhat premature and there are plenty of others) in the details and certainly displaying a bit of bias, overall I really like the Scope stuff. It's nicely written and reasonably accurate on the broader scale and not completely partisan with effort being made to at least give some indication of both sides of the stories.
A locked down news channel is something that EVE desperately needed and I'm more than willing to live with a few stories that bend one way or another or some wrong figures to have one.
Personally I'd like to either know who writes the stuff, or if the authors like to remain anonymous then how stories are selected and what the criteria are.

For the love of god people i would rather read the scope forum as aposed to reading any by TTi or evo they are both HEAVLY biased getting anything truthful out of them is hard just look at the number of BS deaths both say they caused the casualties either side don't match up so... a reporter that openly says an estimated number where destroyed is better than the propoganda. As for the reporting of the war i doubt very much that the time delay from getting the info writing a report to posting would make too much difference and if 1 side asked the reported to wait no doubt they would.
