With all the hate on the last one I want to say that you complaining are wrong with telling CCP to stop doing Live Event. They need to do more. They need to keep trying to find new ways to get more player interacting with each other. That is what Live events are all about. They are about players interacting with players. Did the event have some flaws, sure it did. But it got players out of comfort zones which is a huge win for CCP. It got people out there doing something that they never would have done before. It also brought all three systems of the game together, High, Low, and Null, it was more inclusive than other events that CCP has done in the past.
I started playing this game three years ago, with three RL friends. In that time I have been in WHs, Sov Fights, low sec, and currently FW. I wanted to see what more EVE could have offered me. I wanted to get out there. The people that I see complaining are like my three friends, they still live in Forge. One briefly joined TEST, but then moved back. Why cause High Sec is safer. If there would have been an event like this then may they would have tried it, and if they died, then who cared. The went outside their comfort zone. It was different than running a mission. Maybe it gives them that rush you get when you first learn to pvp and they want more it, so they look a null corp or low sec corp to join. The point is this event could have been it. Yea it was probably awful in 10% TiDi but it was something new. My point is that EVE needs these live events and it needs the to get more players involved in them. I read that 1700 people showed up to one staging system and 700 made it into Null.....THAT IS AWESOME. It really is you are all feeling down cause you died. WHO CARES, its pixels mates. You were in a fleet of 1700 dudes and were off to complete a task. Did you fail, sure that is life you can't win them all. But really think about it. 1700 dudes. 1699 other people came together with you to complete a task. No other game offers events of that size. So while you are complaining about it being unorganized you are forgetting that is the only game that can even allow it. Also you saw first hand what it was like for Null FC, trying to keep their fleet organized. It is no easy task. Most FC struggle with 50 man fleets, TBH, so agian thank CCP for trying. You are also forgetting that CCP is still working with a newish Events Team. They have only been at this for i think a 9 months (I'll have to look at the TMC). And this is only the second time that they have done events of these size. So they are still learning. I would venture to say that they learnt a lot since the Battle of Caldari Prime as the staged two different events. In the future I think that this events are going to be bigger and have more than two staging systems, probably three or four. My last thought is to the people saying that CCP Awoxed you. You were going to Null. What did you think was going to happen? That they were just going to let you show up and do what you wanted? Please tell me that you didn't really think that? Cause if you did then there really is no hope for you. On a closing note Alaric Faelen has the best note on any of these threads. This guy gets it. He understands, and is right. if only one guy that did this event, says "Hey I want another shot at them, or I want to be in that alliance." Then this event is great sucess.
Alaric Faelen wrote:The only players that lost, were those that didn't participate.
Doesn't matter whether people came out in kitchen sink high sec fleets, or shiny null sec doctrines. Just so long as they came out to play. CCP didn't create an ounce of content with their live event.....the players that undocked and came out to fight created the content. It's CCP that owes you a thanks.
For the new PvP'ers and care bears that showed up- GF's to you. Don't let the people too scared to lose fake spaceships pee in your Cheerios. You came out, fought and died. That's all any of us did. Hopefully you had fun. Hopefully you realize that being blown up in a game is still fun. If just one care bear realizes that losing internet spaceships doesn't matter and moves out of high sec, then the live event succeeded.

Awesome idea.
Next time can we bring Null Sec corps into H.S via an island syno and we can have a 3000 man gate camp set up to kill them all when they try and get out? Sounds like great fun lol I enjoy a good pigeon shoot. |

That will be fun. The stupid part about it is that that's exactly what the null sec guys want, though.
But I think it'll be fun to go visit null once in a while and try to break some gate camps without sov backing us. While we're in there, maybe we can throw down some of them siphons. |

The whole point of (most) of the Hi/Low experience is: That you don't have to organize! Not bow to the political ruler. Not follow a doctrine. Not to follow ethics mapped out of someone else. Dying is fine. Losing is fine. But if you cannot go it alone, real life is even more tempting that this. |

Then an unorganized force is likely to be decimated. We don't "bow" or "follow ethics" either. The rule is simple: not blue, shoot it.
And you can disobey the doctrine, of course and become a legend like Baltec1 who, through his persistence in flying Megathrons, has a doctrine named after him (Baltecfleet). All it takes is kind of... realizing you're not a special snowflake, I guess and there's nothing wrong with following commands.
Hell, in our AHAC fleet there was a goddamn 5 bil Mach (Flying full halos too) that chose to fly this way because he could. He lived and scored some kills, we declared him a Morale-Mach and tried to get him killed, laughing as he survived time and time again.

I completely agree that they need to keep going, though I very much doubt that they considered stopping completely. I've said it many times and I'll say it again: The 2010 pre-Incursion live events are the best experience I've ever had in a game, by far! Live events can elevate a game experience to far beyond what sticking to the game mechanics can do. They've succeeded at this before, and they can do it again! But the last live event wasn't the way to get there. |

While the last live event was flawed, I would say that with over 3000 people in both staging areas and in another 500 people across Null the event was sucessful in bring people together. Live events can be better and you are write we need to keep encouraging CCP to do more of these events. |

Although i don't agree with either of you, it's nice to see a well thought out rationale for why the high sec peeps should take heart.
I do not agree, on the other hand, with your opinion. I don't believe 'participation' as your base assumption was even met by CCP from the expectations of said high seccers.
I enjoyed reading Tyler's and Aynen's comments as well, although the current trend (seeing CCP's whitewash response recently) isn't encouraging at all.
All this assumes CCP isn't bare-faced lying...pleading innocence with goody two shoes expectations the "attackers" were going to win is too much to swallow. Even for me. Noone can claim that much ignorance except raw n00bs. So, put on your tinfoil hats and listen to your intuition when i pose the premise that CCP knew full well it was a welp fleet from the get go but bare-faced lied officially...the only conclusion is they don't want to admit they didn't put any effort into a losing proposition (since it was a welp anyways, why bother putting any effort into it)

No.
No one cares about this.
People came expecting meaningful interaction with the story and they did not get it. Even if every single person involved in this travesty were to decide they want to join a Null/Low corp because of it, this event would still be a failure. |

im just saying, if nul sec ppl want easy glorious highsec kills, they could probably do it easier and with greater reward by assembling a ton of destroyers/t3 battlecruisers and seizing the jita-amarr tradelane for a week, than waiting for ccp to hand them some cheap fitted hulls every ?? amount of time
burn jita and hulkageddon are far more event worthy than the ccp thing last week - more news worthy and glorious as well.
as plenty have said before, anyone can fly into a gate camp thats not especially amazing or special and conversely, anyone can shoot a ship stuck in a gate camp. That too isnt especially amazing or news worthy. Doing so in bulk under the guise of a CCP event is even less amazing or news worthy, more like "wtf" worthy. I do not forsee an upcoming "feed null 20 at a time to 1000 highseccers cmaping a gate" event.. i just dont, i wouldnt want too, it would suck, a gatecamp isnt an event plain and simple. Its an expected and well rehearsed daily occurance not much else |

My thoughts exactly op. I can't say that this event was extremely fun, but it was something new and I found it's an interesting experience overall.
Still, announcing stuff on a different media and not waiting for your participants is not a good move. CCP needs a ton of work and polish if they want to make such events at least reasonably good. |

I would agree with the OP except that it's common knowledge that the developers run and participate in these live events and having done software development and dealt with the kinds of schedules around it, we should be happy with the ones we get.
Yes, even the mediocre ones.
It would be better for everybody if they dropped the big live events and went with smaller incidents such as what we saw in 2010-2011. |

I'm good with the idea of the large events but they need to think it through a little better.
- Many staging points outside of the target area - stealth insertion methods to get the fleets into system at random points - some kind of overall well communicated objectives!
Different kinds of events would be better too, covering all career paths. I hi-sec built Titan dropping onto a target zone to act as an anchor (and null-sec fleet magnet :D ) would be truly impressive, especially if built through industrial/mining/manufacturing events run over time.
multiple fleets being dispersed into the target area would lead to many individual battles, with survivors forming up to take on the next fleet.
Think the Battle of Jutland in WWI, Dreadnaughts fought dreadnaoughts, destroyer fleets darted in to attempt torpedo runs, MTB's tried to torpedo anything that moved, cruisers got caught in BC fleets and still came out the other side...so much more could be done with this. |

I don't even know what to say about your post man. 1700 form up and 700 made it to the target system... Are you ********? A blind monkey could have done a better job. No one gets a high five for only taking 70% casualties during transit.
I agree that CCP needs more live events. Eve needs more mystery. More random events. The odd jove ship here and there. The strange encounter with something new. But...
Everyone responsible for organizing that event should be fired and punched in the *********. The order in which those events occur is not important.
I would be happy to organize and run CCPs next major live event. I can provide coms hosting, recommended ship fittings, fleet commanders, and appropriate transportation for a fleet of that size. All I would need is some jump fuel for the titans.
How can CCP fail so hard at something that is the foundation of Eve gameplay?
Events should make Eve come alive. Bring out the space hero in us all. Inspire us to buy more PLEX (and more PLEX... and some AUR... and the collectors edition... and umm... more PLEX).
Get rid of the current event team. It is time for some new blood. |
