This question is mainly directed to people using old machines/ or laptops with low specs...what are the memory, cpu, video specs, and how does EVE run on your machine?
thanks in advance...I'm thinking of buying a laptop, and want to make sure it is EVE-able

I can run up to three eve clients on my laptops with no issues (unless they are in jita).
The above thoughts and statements are IC and should be taken as such. |

Very badly
last time i tryed playing on my lap top i almost lost my dominix to an easy spawn that i could normaly mine with because every thing lockedup.

in my AMD XP 2000+ with 512mb ram and ati 9600 I run eve well untill I go to a fleetbattle of over 30 people.
...frame rate drops like hell by there 
..realy need a new cpu for this machine.

Runs EVE like a dream on my (hint, hint) Barton 2400+ Mobile with 1GB of ram and an Nvidia 5700.
I may be willing to part with the old Socket A chip for the right price...evemail me if you were serious.

i got two machines - one, new machine, no worries
the old machine, eMachines ~1gHz Celeron, 300 odd mb RAM, 128mb Graphics card (PCI - not PCIE)
works ok, just a bit choppy

I run p4 3.4ghz, 1.2gb ram and 7800gt with 2 accounts and no problems
before I installed my gfx card I was able to play eve no problems with my onboard display adapter
p4 2.8ghz 512mb ram and geforce 5600 fx, used to run 2 accounts on that, but it was a bit laggy, dunno if that was dial up or the comp itself. Not too laggy to play

Im on a Toshiba Satelite and mine is ok. I can maybe run 2 clients depending on what im doing. But when i goto a POS. My comp crashes and resolution blows up.

On a 1.4 gHz Athon with a old a crud GeForce 2 MX with 32 Megs of Video Ram, and 256 Megs of system RAM it seemed to be playable but not great. When I upgraded that box to 768 Megs of system RAM it ran quite nice. Ok the frame rate wasn't great but what ever.

Runs alright with a P4 1.5 ghz, 512 mb ram and a Radeon 9600.
Until I get to fleet battles. Anything over 15 ships and my framerate drops like a stone. Around 2 fps.

Yup, doesn't get much crappier than this now days, but I still can do everything up and including level 3 missions. Doubt it would hold up for a fleet battle or the such. I couldn't say about level 4 missions, as I haven't attempted them yet. I do have to frequently play zoomed quite far out when there are loads of NPC and play by using the overview, but so far so good, haven't had any problems which were not mistakes of my own.

I run eve on an Acer Aspire 1800. 1256mb ram, 3GHz P4, Radeon x600 (128mb internal). I get around 60fps in station, 20 outside station, 30 when warping, and about 10-15 when in a belt (darn roids). Very happy with it.

If you have an older laptop, create a shortcut to the game and add the line -swtnl to the exec line to see if the game will run then.

running a client on Compaq x1000
512meg ram
80 gig hdd
dvd burner
ati9200 32meg radeon mobility --fyi do NOT move to latest catalyst drivers. ATI is dropping support or has issues with the 9200/9000 series mobility hardware. compaq/hp haven't updated these drivers in over a year. Omega 5.6 series drivers works great.
EVE running at 1280x800 rez full screen or windowed.
frame rate is decent, not great: 20-32fps. I have used this during fleet actions, and didn't notice anything other than normal lag, although do not expect high fps during those times.

Yea I updated to the latest drivers and noticed a slight decrease in frame rates, I notice it alot more now when I run two clients (I used to run 2 totally fine).
Also with the new drivers it seems that if I move the mouse of the eve window (I run in window mode all the time) it caused eve to drop in frames as well. Going to back up my machine and try and go back to the old version.... :/

My old latop runs a lot better since I set the affinity of the Eve process to just one of the dual cores on my CPU. If anyone has a hyperthreading CPU (two or more CPU windows shown in Taskmanager) you should give this a try. It doubled my framerates and made that machine useable again.

I think that the priority for hardware goes something like...
1. A gfx card that will actually run EVE. Without this you're stuffed. DX9 preferable but DX8 is doable (mebbe even lower?) I've not managed to run EVE _well_ with less than 64Mb graphics RAM but I've managed two clients with 64Mb graphics ram. 32Mb graphics cards will just about do it, but you often get missing textures, screen tearing and awful FPS/resolution. Your mileage will definitely vary.
2. 512Mb RAM, more is always better but 512 is fine. If you want to run more clients, add more RAM. If you have a very slow HD, add more RAM and increase the buffer size in prefs.ini.
3. Processor. The biggest you can get, 2Ghz P4s will do it... 1.7PMs will do it, or equivalent AMD parts. The more you get after this, the better you will cope with loaded systems and piles of NPCs. EVE seems to be more CPU bound than most games.
4. As with all things, if you go and spend a lot of cash on a top whack computer you'll get more performance but the value for money will decrease rapidly. This post is for people who are trying to play EVE on a budget. I hate people who sneer at other gamers who are not as fortunate as I am. Remember that the PCs some threw out a year ago were top of the line when EVE was released.....
This post is from my experience playing EVE on a wide variety of desktops and laptops that I install at work. The first thing I do with a new machine (or with the first from a batch of machines) is install EVE and see how the performance looks. I use EVE as a benchmarking test at work :) If you have other experiences please add them.

I tried to run EVE on my das's new AMD turon Laptop a couple of nights ago, It's got 1 gig ram and a Turon 64bit Mobile Processor. The graphics Chip in it is an ATI Radeon Xpress 500m or something.
When I installed and ran the EVE client,it loaded up fine, looked fine on login untill i got to the character selection screen, where the graphics themselves looked fine, its just the display was 'flashing' on the screen ie. disapearing then re-appearing again. Tried tweaking the setting on graphics adaper and the game but no improvments at all.
I recon it was the graphics card its-self tbh so that might be one to look out for.
I was rather dissapointed in that, my Desktop is bearly able to run eve, I think its about to give up totally, and I was hoping to find a substitute for it.

At work i used the Laptop to play eve. Which, runs pretty well. never tried more then 1 client though as i only have this account.

3500 winchester
1gbram
7800GTX
I run with 4x AA and 8x AF as well. Don't get any lag what so ever. I get it in fleet battles but I think thats partly due to lag and partly due to the 4xaa and 8xAF as well.

My current laptop is:

Runs eve great, will run most other games on pretty high settings just fine.
I have an old computer, specs are:
800MHz
512 RAM
Geforce 4 mx 440 (crappy, but eh)
I'd call it 'functional' - or, perhaps, 'skill training computer'. It runs, but it doesn't run well. Even looking at your average station or big glowy cloud significantly reduces FPS - not to slideshow, but still badly. The only time I ever had critical problems running EVE with it was way back in beta, when I had a TNT2 (and 256 RAM) instead and it wouldn't start up at all.

My old (old, old) computer used to have a 1.6ghz Duron, 256mb RAM and a Geforce 2.
Not only did it run EVE, I participated in conquerable station sieges with about 20-15 FPS.
Mind you, that was a year ago...

Its been mentioned before, but the way EVE processes graphics, its almost more important to have a faster CPU than it is to have the hottest graphics card.
Example: My amd2400+ desktop with 6800 GT OC 256meg RAM is definitely better FPS wise than my Compaq X1000 widescreen with radeon9200 mobility with 32meg ram...BUT its not unplayable on either.
Devs may have mentioned this in another thread...can't remember exactly, but the CPU with current client build is definitely most important at this point.

I don't PvP so I can't comment but I can do most of the lvl4 missions without much lag (depending on time of day / solar system). FPS is in the 17-30 range normally. Having the whole fleet from 5/5 Human cattle shooting me and 5 of my corp shooting back (in a quiet system) gave me about 10 fps.
My main source of lag comes from my 56k dial up connection and my instance on running TS
yeah now you all can laugh.

My comp has P4 2GHz 256 RD ram Nvidia Geforce4 MX 440 64MB, it runs fine until fleet battles and sometimes lags in missions, it locksup for about 30 secs.

Runs slow as hell when peak hours hit. Lost 2 domis to horrible lag already. Being halfway around the world from London doesn't help a single bit. 
Upgrading to Geforce 6xxx and probably 512 RAM soon.

i bought the best PC i could find last year, dual gforce7800s and all the toys, the best of everything.. even got it setup for maximum performance...
BUT eve still lags, it still drops, it still does all those bad things my old pc done.
It doesnt matter what u have, u will always run into trouble with EVE as its quite an unstable laggy game, but thats why we love it ..
just get something thats good enough to run EVE, rather than something that "should" blow it away.
