Just curious, my character is two years old today. And being at University and having 3 years left I see myself playing Eve for the next three years guaranteed. After that, who knows.
So is anyone else doing what I do and seeing how long they might stay in Eve for?

I don't see stopping play for me. I would stop EVE if a new version or a whole new game came out that allowed planet exploration,station exploration..etc etc...
I love this game and would only stop playing if a more intricate version arose. I figure 3-4 years more for eve. Wild guess..

Not sure how much longer i'd stay in my case,as i'm only 5 months away from my 3rd eve birthday and i've pretty much done a bit of everything in that time period....Mostly training skills these days to be honest,and i need to take a few weeks off every 3~4 months to keep the game from getting a little too boring.

Depends on whether they keep programming more and more lag in and keep nerfing good stuff to try to compensate.
Highways, drones and next, hangers.
None of these nerfs has worked yet. The lag gets worse with every "upgrade".

True but EA needs to release the rights (source code ?) to Earth and Beyond.

until I run out of skills that I want to train I gues but who knows even then I must admit the game does seem to have got alot more boring for me since raven changes and level 4 mission changes I understand completly why both were changed just saying it did take away alot of the fun factor for me and can't say I've ever really got it back, yet I'm still here playing.

When CCP finally shut down eve (if they dont just transfer our characters to eve 2) one of the DEV's should accidentally leak the server software so us hard core eve'rs can make a private server and keep our characters going forever

Now that I've found my way back here, I'll be here about as long as there are servers to play on. I was led astray by other games in 2003, or I'd have been here since early Beta.
The only real competition I've even heard of is the long rumoured X:OU (the online version of the X series). However, considering that work on that beast was supposed to start several years ago and it's still barely even mentioned on egosoft's web site.... I don't think CCP has to worry much.
Of course, Braeburn (sp?) might wake up and make Elite 4 Online too.... yeah, about the same time Duke Nuke'Em Forever is released.

So I'll stop playing if STO is good or if someone brings our Elite Online and does it well. Basically the 1st person bring out a better online space based game and I'll be there.
I did plan to stop playing Eve forever in about 10 days time when my current subscription expires but have since found new interest in it and gotten over the pain of bug induced loss 4 months ago that sparked me wanting to quit in the 1st place.
To all the people who told me not to give all my stuff away back then as I would regret it - don't say I told you so

I am staying until after the new hardware installation and seeing if the lag improves. If it doesnt then i'm going to cancel my account, which is a real shame as Eve is undoubtably the best MMO out there (BUT for the lag)...
Since the RMR, if more then 1 person locks me, or if i lock other people, or if local has more then a few people in it, the game constantly lags out and I get minute long total screen freezes. I've petitioned this a number of times, without any refunds and basic lies such as 'we dont keep records of lag spikes/theres no logs for that sort of lag situation'.
Case in point yesterday when I was engaged at a gate by 1 bs and a inty which I could have fought off or killed pre RMR. Firsly only three of my launchers would activate and the others kept saying they were waiting to activate, the shield booster wouldnt work and when i launched drones they wouldnt engage the target and just sat in space. Once I died, it still showed my BS in local hanging there, despite a pod sized information display at the bottom being present. If even basic game play is effected by the lag, then continuing with Eve will be pointless.

My subscription runs out in a few days and to be honest I am struggling a bit to think of good reasons to renew it. The last few months has been dreadful lag-wise. Wasn't overly impressed with the new content patch, and to be honest I am beginning to feel that the money could be better spent elsewhere.
Perhaps one more month to see how this server upgrade goes. If its as much of a heinous mess as RMR was, i'm out for sure. From CCP There seems to be a lack of basic attention to detail and customer service, and an obsession with grandiose plans that in my opinion is not good enough for the money i pay. Hopefully all these promises about a new cluster fixing everything are not hollow ones.

Not since AC1 have I felt inclined to stick with a game for the long haul. AC2, SWG, CoH, a few weeks of AO, RFOnline Beta, nothing has held my attention the way this game has. I have been on since September and I honestly don't see an end in sight for me.

I've only stopped playing Eve during the time my ex (then wife) started sleeping with a local volunteer fireman, and the death of my father. Since I have been playing since retail release, I cannot see myself stopping any time soon....well maybe if [email protected] gets worse.

There wouldn't be an Eve2. Eve now has 100,000 active subscribers and that is a lot of money. Everyone be in no doubt that CCP will not want to lose players ie revenue Ç10-20 per month... thats a lot of Euros. So they will be working hard to get it right. They are trying hard to keep content going and keeping things fresh but I think now its time to get things settled down so us paying customers become happier. I am waiting now over 2 weeks on a reimbursement Raven after I lagged out during a Serps Xtra... Although I do think support mechanics and petition system needs to be completey overhauled. Only a narrow few issues have petitions the rest goes to email and you are lucky to get a response at all.....
I would like true ship control also.. but I'm here for the long haul....

Often wondered just how far they can take it. Ive been playing for two years thereabouts and have only had one period where I did not feel like playing.
This was only for about two weeks to a month though. I honestly think it will be a long time before EvE bites the dust as it is constantly evolving .
It is a lot lot different now to when I first started.. There used to be Frigates,Cruisers,Industrials and Battleships. Now look at the choice we have. And that is just one aspect of the game.
If they can beat the lag issues and keep people in the game then I really dont see why it cant just keep on evolving. People are already starting to go down specialised routes now and its as close to a living breathing thing you can find ...yet you can still turn it off.
I honestly cant see what else is out there that can even begin to get near not only the vast scope of the game but also the community surrounding it...Devs and players alike.
I for one will be here till whatever comes first...my demise or the final EvE wide free for all that I imagine will end it and which Im sure in true CCP style would be legendary....I mean ...who else could have thought up 'Snowball launchers' ? Fantastic....

i probably shouldn't reveal this, but what the heck. i come from the future, and in the future CCP will port EVE into a virtual reality environment (when the technology becomes viable, of course). it'll be just like the Matrix, except with less Kung Fu and more leather fetishists.

Honestly I do not see any game like Eve coming out anytime soon from what I have seen from upcoming games. In order for me to play anything else it would have to be just like Eve...Which CCP may do eventually anyways  . Time really isnt an issue other then that since graphics arent my main reason for playing a game, rather the content.

For me it feels like i will stay 4-5 more months all depending on how they fix the lagg. I've reach all my goals so now the only thing keeping me in this game is the pvping and with the lagg it's not that great atm.

Eve will never truly disapear...we hopes. My hope is that it morphs when any good changes in gaming take place and carries forth all the efforts we have placed thus far. I can't think of anything that can be created that would better Eve unless it was an improved version of Eve itself.

Oh well, when i first started back in 2003 i thought "This game is awesome, love it, will never quit!". But iŠve already had some major pauses from Eve, and each time i start again i promise myself not to quit again.
Hopefully iŠll continue until the end of Eve, but youŠll never know

I have stopped playing twice already, so this could be considered the third coming. I totally regret the skilling time I missed out on, so even if I should take another break (not gonna happen anytime soon), I will keep my subscription alive to train skills until the day the servers close. Eve is by far not the only game I enjoy, or genre for that matter, but there is something special to it, something that few other games offer. Plus the community - subscription fee for Eve: 14,99 $ a month ... being a part of this community: priceless.
