From a impartial point of view, high requirements on learning skills is good for the very reason I mention - if people REALLY want to catch up, let them invest time on learning skills, which will help them in the long run. Also, there are better ways to make the 'fun' more rapid for new players - such as reducing the requirements for things like Assault Frigs (but not by much). I'm also for tweaking the starting skills too.

I dissagree. Learning skills, while are a nessesity of eve, are certainly very close to being one. Like you I've train up all my learning skills, over 1.5 mounths, though it was a while before you came along, and truthfully I don't mind at all. If the newbies want to 'catch' you they will still want to train the basic learning skills to 5, or at least the important ones. However, ketting them train the advanced ones gets them more attribute points sooner.
In other words, there's hardely any reason to grind out a mounths worth of training in your first couple mounths of eve. You won't need to have half your tottal skill points in learning to train at a reasonably fast rate. Insteed, you can train at close to the same speed, with only 750k invested in learning, as aposed to 1.7 mill.
Thogh by reduceing the skills needed for tech 2 ships, you arn't really doing the noobs a favour. We've all seen the rush to a BS, and the end result being noobs flying megathrons with small auto cannons fitted. It would be simular if you let them train assult frigs quickly, and those arn't insurable. Besides, for less skill points invested, you can fly a tech 1 cruiser, which is arguably a better fighter then a assult frig, and cheaper to boot.
Theres plenty of tech 1 ships availible to the noobs, that don't require 2 mounths of training to simply fly the thing. And still the most veristile ship of them all is still the BS, which can be flown reasonably well by a pilot with 4 mill sp, maybe less. You don't need tech 2 to compete, and given you can always get a bigger tech 1 ship, for cheaper and less SP invested, thats the way to go ushally.
