My point is still valid - NONE of that is content. Nothing you listed will add gameplay beyond what's already in game. While the player base has been asking for those items and I'm happy to see them being addressed, they're not going to expand gameplay and keep people subscribing for additional months.
But we absolutely agree on the monocle issue. It was a joke from it's very conception, and asking four months subscription price for an item that no one else can even see? That was MAJOR fail. The single room was weak and the non-optomized code was careless. Incarna as implemented was horrible, but the concept of expanding the game is still critical to EVE's survival.
Ladie Harlot wrote:I'll tell you exactly how to succeed in your quest for the perfect space barbie simulator. Get together with all the other roleplayers and dolly dressup lovers and cancel your subscriptions...
My subscription ends soon, and I won't be renewing. Individually, I won't be missed.
And as long as EVE remains the same as it is, it will never grow. It will remain the same niche game and go the way of EverQuest - a byline in the history of MMOs that never reached over 500k subscriptions. If CCP never changes and grows EVE, it will forever remain a tiny little game with a tiny little sandbox. However, CCP is a business and they know they need to attract customers from the competition. There are reasons why WOW (younger than EVE) has 11 million subs, and The Sims (younger than EVE) has 15 million. As a business, CCP should want part of that action. |

I've been touting this around... If EVE is to survive long term, there must be at least one form of gameplay that is not a dead end. If I recall the specific number, the average life cycle of a rookie is 6 months. That is a major major problem. That is the one problem that will ultimately kill EVE, possibly sooner than anyone expects.
Why is the life cycle of a rookie 6 months? Because there is no single feature in EVE that is worth doing for longer than 6 months. CCP prides itself on not making content, but on making tools to allow players to make the content. If CCP tries to make content (graphics, funsies ships and modules that don't affect the status quo, walking in stations) they MUST make sure those alone extend the life of some gameplay by 6 months until the next expansion, else EVE is dying for that expansion. Making tools to allow players to create the content is much harder. Balance it too far one way or the other, and either special interest groups dominate everyone else out of the sandbox, or it's not worth doing at all (examples, nullsec and FW respectively.)
Now, honestly, what are CCP's best development options, right this second, to provide gameplay where rookies will not get bored after 6 months? I'll take a second to point out that games like Mass Effect take years to put together but provide enough content for 12-30 hours of gameplay depending on the game and the player.
A system like the sov system, or FW are probably the easiest areas to "fix" since there is already an established base of player created content (assuming CCP can balance it in a way to make long term players have to fight to keep it and newer players a reasonable way to take it, which thus far they have more or less continually failed.)
Consider the tools in place for sov and FW those to work... not just the sov/occupancy mechanics, but that there are 80+ different spaceships, hundreds of pieces of equipment to equip, a full physics and combat engine, the industrial and marketing infrastructure to put the tools in the hands of the people, and basically EVERYTHING in EVE. Now consider what it would take to create a full suite comparable tools all from scratch, promote player adoption of those tools, and have them all connect in a meaningful way to the other tools already in existence. The hard part of developing Incarna hasn't even begun. |

No... WiS isn't content either, without there being an activity to engage in.
Content is gameplay that keeps someone active. Content is something that inspires people to log on and do something. PI is content. Mining is content. Ratting and Missioning are content. Creating POS is content. Even Wardeccing is content (albiet player-made).
The reason I support WiS is because they promised us more content (more things to do), such as items we could craft and establishments we could operate. Walking around in a one-room cell with nothing to do isn't content because no one logs on just to do that, and that's one reason WiS as delivered failed to please the player base. |

Anyway: Everyone has to accept, that there are also other opinions than the own. I'm also looking forward to more content in CQ, but it's of course okay for me to give FiS the higher priority, and therefore to wait. |

Walk out into space in an invisible room and floating on one wall "You have won the game. Now shut up." CSM do you think? No matter the changes, high sec people chose the safests. Lots of stick and they will leave. Half the problem is the players in null sec; we do not want to be there with you. |

To leave people in these little prison cells untill you get back to WiS is a mistake imo. This only frustrates people who were waiting for a complete Incarna launch and will Only confuse new players.
One bar or lobby that is race neutral that will allow people who want to mingle to do so. This will help with NeX sales so hopefully you can hire back some of the team sooner rather than later.
For me, I wont even care if it's a "live beta" If people who like to complain about all things to with WiS dont like it, they already have their option to stay in their hangers and never see it.
One room beyond would go a long way to keeping the future of EVE alive.
If you have no plans to add any more WiS content for years to come, then I suggest removing the CQ entirely untill you can release more content, as it is only salt in the wounds for both sides of the debate as it stands.
Sure sounds good. How about a closet to keep all your space barbie clothes. |

What? How can you argue that nothing coming in winter is content? 4 new ships, complete re-texturing of two races, new t2 mods, engine trails and new nebulae, better Sov mechanics, yes that's all so USELESS I want them to make MOAR MONACLE COLORS!!!! We could have had all these things so much sooner, except that CCP wasted years of R&D on Incarna and the fail stations with completely useless and overpriced vanity items that were a money grab from the start.
Yeah, Incarna is definitely better for EvE. Isolate the core that keeps half a dozen accounts running each on top of plex, so that you can get a guy to play a month to see his kewl avatar running around a room alone.
And never mind that Incarna is a testing grounds for the tech they need to build WoD, so what if they use EVE as a lab rat and cash cow right? |

There is nothing wrong with this thread. The original poster has a point, as does the Goon.
CCP needs to find some balance in their approach. As much as I would like to see WiS move forward, seeing the recent art, new ships and discussions about FiS changes, I am more interested and excited seeing that move forward right now.
FiS without content sucks
but then so does WiS without content
CCP has learned this I think. We all got a 10x10 prison cell and NONE of us were happy. So lets let them focus and make some long overdue enhancement and fixes to FiS.
They should not release anymore WiS unless it adds to EvE...that is is fun and makes people want to use it. Simply adding an empty room or allowing us to wander around aimlessly in a station is a waste of CCP resources. No WiS without content and meaning. I should be able to kill peoples with my stilettos.
For now stick to the FiS ...moar pve, moar pvp, moar ships, moar stuffs

Sorry but that is nonsense. For 8 years EVE always had a growing subscriber base. It went a bit up and a bit down but in the end it always grew. This is not a game for everybody, so some may fall off along the road but in the end more people get addicted to it.
At least that was until this year CCP released the nothing that is 'incarna'. If you look at the front page server graphic, the users online is *still* declining.
That has nothing to do with rookies. It's more a mass disappointment, perceived by those who figured out how to enjoy the game beyond the rookie stage, towards CCP.
I just hope EVE gets out of this dip. And from my point of view the only way to do that, is to go back and stick with the core game play. Because that has proven itself over the years to keep attracting new customers. As it stands now, Wis is one massive failure and should be left dormant where it is now until CCP can update it with one giant, and I mean ***GIANT*** update like 'Trinity' or even better 'Apocrypha'.
Until then anything 'wis' like or 'nex-store' like should stayed mothballed. |
