Quote: The 'better graphics' are certainly a optical or psychological illusion, perhaps brought on by a smoother framerate.
My frame rate before the new server: Average 70-80. My frame rate after the new server: Average 70-80. Quote: My supposition is that when you get a more jittery frame rate, your visual system picks out details in the longer time it has to process each individual frame - like jagged edges on objects, color banding, and such.
What's jittery about 70FPS in combat situations? Quote: You might not be able to consciouslly identify the difference in *motion* between, say, 40fps and 60fps, but there is nonetheless a sublte 'quality' difference between them, in my opinion. The patch is only 0.4MB, so there is no new graphics and lighting engine in there, even if CCP's denials weren't enough.
Look, I'm sick and tired of this "you must be imagining it" crap. I'm comparing two screenshots from my client in where there are complete differences in the graphical potency. I'm talking about going from a weak, singular color lens flare from the origonal to a multispectral color rainbow lens flare since the patch. I know the patch, due to it's size, only changed the server IP. Perhaps it was something they bumped up server side since they have the additional processing power. I can't know the specifics without working there (or sleeping with kieron ).
But for the love of CCP, stop trying to convience me that it's something I 'missed', especially when comparing still-photos of past and present screenshots, some taken for a direct reference in the same solar system. --------------

Hmm, initially it looked good, flying through Jita with 360 ppl in local was smooth. Then I tried a few missions in Isikemi and got hit by severe lag, it's as unplayable as it was a few days ago. Maybe some people try a massive fleet battle on the same cluster node Isikemi is on?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere but regards:
"16 new jumps have been added, and 3 jumps have been shifted as part of the optimizations for high-load systems. The shifted jumps are:
* Rens <> Onaga (** I assume you mean Onga?) * Oursalert <> Alentene * Hedion <> Tash Murkon Prime"
Is it listed somewhere what these new jumps are and where have the 3 jumps been shifted to? As you appreciate, i'll need to amend my 2d Maps ASAP
Thanks!

Just to weigh in on the graphics "improvements" here. I didnt actaully make it out of the station today, but I did notive that my docked ship looked a little sharper. Some of the detail just seemed that much more sharper. Nothing I can pin my finger on, but clearly I noticed it and wondered... And then I noticed this thread.
Here is my theory. I have a pretty okay graphics card in my system, but I turned down most of the settings to reduce lag problems. When I logged off today I noticed that these settings had increased to pretty much the max (with advanced settings visible) of what they could be.
Now, I didn't do that, could the patch (once it had cleared the cache as previously explained for the market lag problem) also have cleared the graphics setting which then defaulted to "Optimal for my graphics card"?
Just a theory. I have no before and after shots to prove this though, but I would suggest anyone looking at a better graphics scenario check their graphics setting.
If nothing was added in the last patch (and really it was too small to have added anything like a graphics upgrade) then this is the only explanation I can think off.
Either that, or I am going mad(dder).

Edited by: Za Po on 22/02/2006 22:09:35 There is severe lag in Funtanainen and Isikemi right now. Worse than with the old server, so it's got to be a software issue. A corp mate told me that Hageken is pretty bad, too.
Also, I can't deactivate modules. o_O -------------------- This solution to BM-related server resource usage can reduce lag with the same interface. |

jeesus crimmey!
theres no lag in hageken, was just talkin to a guy that said he had huge lag there,.... he had 512 ram !
theres no reason not to have a buttload of ram nowdays, if you cant afford it, then you cant afford to play eve.

No jump/dock lag, and my corpies currently on a road-trip in an 80-man gang also report that things are looking rosy.

Gonada, would you please not jump to conclusions about our systems? There was (and probably still is, im not in the game right now) crippling lag at least in Isikemi with 30 ppl in local while Jita with nearly 400 ppl worked fine. There is definitely some problem with load balancing regarding this system (and probably some others like Funtanainen and Hageken, don't know, wasn't there). PS: Athlon 64 3200, 1024 RAM, Radeon X800 PE, Cable connection here, this should be enough to run Eve properly

Ease up on the loadbalancing hate. It may take a few days, weeks even, to pinpoint newfound server stress and which nodes need more prioritizing. Stop *****ing about other people's computer setups and start reporting things more clearly. Are you lagging? What system and region? What is your computer?

As my cache was rebuilt, I can definitely see that everything is more responsive. I think it was a great decision to update your hardware! Now your people can focus on content or other improvements. Maybe a bit less stress for your support team down the road too.

I've not logged in yet - too drunk but I'm pleased to see the response to the upgrade and even better is the quick replies to comments on this forum. It's showing that CCP is up to speed, the ('kin great) volunteers are very keen and any feedback is constructive.
My only worry is - at what point does the EVE community achieve UN application status and who the fick carries out the weapon inspections?

Wow CCP..
As a fellow software developer, I am impressed by your accomplishment with this upgrade. I know it was mostly hardware, but I also know software guys end up having to do a bit of everything .
I'm sure a couple employees are watching the new setup like hawks - looking for the slightest abnormality, but I'm also sure most (or all) of you are celebrating this victory (and if you're not, just by reading this forum thread you should). The sheer magnitude of the positive comments on this thread should make you feel all warm inside. That warmth is your stomach's request for beer & wings (the way my team celebrates successful project completions.. umm.. no animal heads..).
Personally, I've found no problems, and decreases in load times for dock, undock, and jump times.
To our friend that is having unexplained graphics benefits - play with your ingame video settings (Escape -> Graphics tab -> Adapter and Device settings on left of screen). Change those around and see if you can reproduce the video quality you remember from before. It was likely you had made a change at some point and maybe the patch reset these settings.
Cheers CCP - here's to 35k concurrent users!

when the bloodline patch comes next week , i noticed your fixing the nighthawk ship
====================================================================================================== Nighthawk's description now displays a bonus to Kinetic missile damage only. It incorrectly stated receipt of a bonus to all heavy missiles. Also, its capacitor capacity has been increased to 4750 and cargo capacity increased to 700m3.
Vulture and Nighthawk had incorrect shield, armor and hull values. All command ships have 20% more hit points than their tech 1 counterpart. The Vulture had this bonus twice whereas the Nighthawk had no bonus. ======================================================================================================
can you please also fix the presicion skill bonus from command skill , as its working the wrong way making this so called frigate killer , even harder to hit frigates
ie heavy missile explosion radius = 125 with precision missile skill at lvl 4 = 100 (20% reduction due to skills)
but on a nighthawk with lvl 3 command skill instead of it getting better by 15% its getting worse now i get a explosion radius of 115
i hope someone reads this and fixes it with next weeks patch
Regards

Originally by: Gonada for the last friggin time, upgrade your computers!
1) Chill. That's bad for your heart.
2) I was in Jita too, and I had no lag there, even though there were about ten times as many ships on the screen as in laggy Funtanainen.
3) Processor usage during the lag was below 100%. RAM usage was way below 100%, certainly not into swap.
4) Framerate was smooth. Windows opened easily and quickly. Modules took many seconds to activate. Changes of ship direction took many seconds to take place. Opened cans displayed their window immediately, but took many seconds to fill up. When moving items, the transfer took many seconds to start, and after that I could see the items being moved one by one. What does this sound like? Server lag. What does it not sound like? Client lag.
5) At one point, I was stopping mid-warp, because I had no capacitor, because I was unable to deactivate my modules. So I was in the middle of NOTHING, with no other objects around me. Guess what? STILL lagging.
Look, I know that the new hardware is powerful enough to run the game with no lag. I'm not here saying "CCP sucks, the new hardware is a joke, whine whine".
But there is a problem, probably with load balancing, and blaming it on the client can only do so much before it becomes a denial of reality. -------------------- This solution to BM-related server resource usage can reduce lag with the same interface. |

A couple of nodes went into high CPU last night, probably causing the extreme lag you are describing. This is most likely due to a bug in our code and we will look into it today.

Congrats must be extended to CCP on a great job of getting the new hardware in a quick and pretty stable fashion.
Well done on getting rid of the cripplechips in the old servers and getting real CPU's instead.
Now onto the Blood patch!
