Hello,
I would like to know, since I am in to "hardware" - from what kind servers was upgrade done anyway?
P4 servers? Xeons ? or dual - single?
Also by your mesure guys - how much performance gain was done by this ?
Are this dual server with dual core cpu's ? or just single with dual core?
How long u predict/think there will no need to do more upgrades?
Was it hard to switch your code from 32 bit to 64 bit?
I am glad u guys went with AMD, they really doin superb CPU's, and they need more support in enterprise market, so they can in future delivere even better CPU for us.
Soon even quad core cpu's will be out there - at "normal" price for relative easy upgrade. Never before was inexpesive to get so much CPU power.
If AMD was not so agressive as it was, I am sure we would still all using 1.5 - 2.0 GHZ PENTIUM's and that's about it.
Thanks on info.

Seem a couple of problems in Jita. Once when testing the new cluster and again today just before DT. Everyone gets stuck in warp (warp is active but ship does not move) and relogging does not help.
I have submitted a bug report.

In space stuff - crystal swapping, drone launching etc is vastly improved.
Good work CCP.
Database queries such as market searches take almost as long as before though. Hardly surprising, as databases are generally more RAM/storage intensive than on-the-fly calculations. I'm hoping that the forthcoming RAMSAN upgrade will address this.

Originally by: kieron Nothing was changed in the new patch other than the IP address to the new hardware.
Arrgh. After 3805->3807 my sound started crashing badly (ie in minutes or less rather than hours like before.) I posted a bug report thinking that was it, but no changes in this patch.
Definitely a change in behavior on my end, maybe from lag. Guess there should be a client-side hardware upgrade soon.

to all cpp,
exellent work and glad murphy was on vacation not to mention the visit to jita after it came to life ________________ Signature graphics may only contain your character name, corporation logo, corporation or personal slogan or other text that is directly related to your in-game persona, or content directly related to EVE Online. Good work CCP. Logged in last night and had a brief visit to Jita and was not laggy at all.
Except for the people sat outside the busy stations ... move out of the way already! (Can we have a *push* tractor beam?)
By the way, never finish early as next time people will ***** even if you finish on time. Should have sat with your feet up until 8 AM before you hit the MakeWorkNow switch.
I'm sure it will bed down even better as you modify cluster cache settings etc.
A always wondered about the wisdom of a daily downtime, but it's actually a pretty cunning plan as everyone now expects it, and you have an hour each day to tweak a little here and there.

Originally by: Za Po But there is a problem, probably with load balancing, and blaming it on the client can only do so much before it becomes a denial of reality.
I do not think that anyone from CCP has tried to blame post-upgrade lag on player clients or systems. We know that the hardware, the protocols, and everything else related to the upgrade has to settle in, including load balancing. Heck, Oveur said as much in his Dev Blog earlier today and load balancing was one of the root causes of all the issues we have been facing with the web services.
We are estatic with the way the TQ upgrade went, less satisfied with the web services issue, and far from resting on our laurels. There's a lot of work to be done, and the Devs are not taking a break.

No, noone from CCP did that. My "blaming on the client" comment was directed at a few forum users; at the same time, I wanted to provide as many details about the problem as possible. Valar confirmed my feelings about just a couple unlucky machines getting high CPU usage for some reason which are being investigated. That's enough to make me happy. ^_^ -------------------- This solution to BM-related server resource usage can reduce lag with the same interface. |

Um... this is MORE than likely your computer HARDWARE not the server HARDWARE. I can run 3 clients with little problems other than a small amount of CPU and Video lag. Please, if you are going to give some sort of opinion, do so intelligently.

Edited by: Cornelius Murphy on 23/02/2006 22:04:25 Lag is still an issue, I lost my ship to rats even though I had warped out. Very hard to accept losing a ship that way!
All the same, I know youre working on it, so petition sent, leave you to it guys. Keep up the great work! ------------------------------------------

My 2 cents of the post hardware upgarde experience...
Game lag seems a lot better ... less lag when ships loading up afetr a huge fleet jumps a gate... less lag when in combat etc... BUT there is huge and sometimes total lag with the overview... half of the time its showing planets and moons at 0 km and not refreshing at all when ships move etc... This is problematic for PVP ...to say the least...
and its come to a point where overview is useless...
I'll also repeat it... there is still a huge problem with EVE leaking something somewhere ... after 4 hrs of straight play the game locks up every 10-15 seconds... and lag is immense ... I KNOW its client side... but the fact remains that was introduced in RMR when you switched a lot of the work on the client... it looks like a memory leak... it feels like a memory leak...but I am no tech person so not sure...

I am running 3 accounts on an AMD 2700 with 1.5gig RAM.
Running more than one account lags the computer. Always has, always will. Even so the lag is less than before.
And when I just run one account at a time it's really good.
I commend CCP for spending the real-life moolah to fix the problem.

I just want to say that I am very pleased with the upgrade! Slight lag yesterday in Jita and Sobaseki, but that was around the time over 20,000+ were logged in... so I'm very happy with the way things are coming! Keep up the good work CCP!

Sigma,
Same here. I'd really booked myself in for some sunday evening mining, err, yay, but oh well, let's test drive this new beast.
Oh wonder. Lvl 4 Rogue Drone Harassment in 100+ local Teonusude on a 23000+ record breaking sunday evening and I could have sworn I was in Derelik back in 2004.
Now all I have to see is a serious fleet battle, finally.
