This post is made purely for informational reasons. I make no claim of agreeing or disagreeing with the actions of the pirates. I arrive at no carebear or anti-carebear opinions. Please take it as a fair warning to the industrialist only.
JITA - CALDARI SPACE: Jita, once considered the safest place in the known universe can no longer be considered "safe." Due to it's high security standing, it is certainly "safer" space in relation to 0.0 but the limits of this safety have recently been shown.
There is at least one, and possibly more, corporations engaging in piracy within Jita. Their M.O. is as follows:
1) Scan the cargo hull of haulers.
2) If the loot looks good, destroy the hauler quickly before Concord can intervene.
3) Have a buddy scoop up the loot as the attacker gets blasted to bits by Concord.
4) Repeat until filthy rich.
Now this was attempted on me a few nights ago. Thankfully, I survived.
If you are alert AND if you have planned for it, it is fairly easy to survive. However, the screams of shock and horror in Local Chat revealed that many players are unaware of the fact that YES, you can be ganked in 1.0 space.

Jita is statistically the most dangerous system in the game.
Oh, and there is no safe space in Eve, and yet the OP still tries to propogate that myth.

It seems to have taken on a more ruthless efficiency recently.
I kind of like the fact it happens, keeps everyone on their toes.

Another thing folks do to get haulers:
Person A war decs his alt's corp. His alt then sits in a hauler fitting with expanders and cargo scanners. Alt then scans ships until something juicy comes along. Then, alt sends a gang invite to the juicy target.. and if the target aint really paying attention then he clicks ok to join gang. Now, since the juicy target is in a gang with a war target (the alt), person A can fire on the juicy target and concord won't do anything.
Best of all, it isn't considered an exploit or anything... so you can do it all day long.
NOTE: I, and to the best of my knowlage, SNIGG does not do this.

Quite amusing actually, the individuals in question tried it with my Bustard a few days back.
Seeing them whine in local as they exploded one by one, then scooping their loot in front of the watchful eyes of their blinking eggs, while chuckling evilly to myself really made me smile 
I really love the way that a Bustard is physically identical to look at when compared to a Badger Mk II.

Wouldnt it make more sense to spam Jita with that info.
Although I dont think it would help to much.
(btw most safe space industrialists are like cows chewing cud in a medow, happily ignorant of the danger just on the other side of the fence. Oblivious till the day that the farmer decides to jump the rail with a sledgehammer and smack one between the eyes. I only wish at the moment they're ejected from their exploding ship, that we could get a picture of the "omgwtf?!?" look on their faces. Stupid cows...)

This whole effort by prats to figure out ways of ganking or stealing from innocents reminds me of the way scumbags in the real world spend all of their time and effort trying to figure out new ways to rip off the elderly, the young, and anyone in between who might be naive or simply not guarding themselves against such loathsome predators. Instead of getting a decent job and making an honest living, real world and MMO prats wholly commit themselves to dishonest gain via identity theft, spyware, hacking, email appeals for money, telephone scams, etc. - no matter who is hurt or how much they are hurt. Eve prats are the same. They expend all of their time, energy, and creativity thinking up new ways to harm and harass pilots seeking to make an honest living. I would imagine that many of these Eve prats are prats in the real world. I hope every Eve prat gets a Jovian disease that rots their flesh in their pods. I wonder if they would even know HOW to make a decent ISK living in Eve without being a jerk.

This is very interesting to this newbie. I don't remember the wording, but EVE makes it pretty clear that 1.0 space is safe. I don't have a problem with the fact that it isn't totally safe, but it would have been nice to have been told that rather than the reverse. Last week when I posted my surprise at being attacked in 1.0 space and just barely escaping before my shields were blown off, I was told it couldn't have happened.

I take great offense to that remark. I am a 'scumbag' in Eve, and I like it that way. In real life, I am kind, helpful, etc. One of the reasons I play this game is to be able to escape from the confines of morality that exist in real life. Simply dismissing all pirates/criminals in eve as mindless griefers who are just playing that way because they are bad people in real life speaks of profound immaturity and nievite (or however you spell that clearly non-enlgish word).
In short, stop insulting me and many other decent human beings because we dont give the same respect to computer bits as we do to tangiable objects.

Having secure cans in your cargo and placing items in them does absolutely nothing. Cargo scanning ignores cans completely and list everything in you cargo hold, including what is in the cans. I have tested and confirmed this. There is now way to hide what is in your hold. The only thing that would even possible help hide anything would to place tons of diferent items in your hold so it would take them perhaps too long to find anything of value and commit to the kill before its to late.

i do think removing the press return to join gang is the best way to help against this.
many times i have been typing and chatting and join a gang by pressing return.
they have only been corp members gang invites but still

KIROCk just so you know pirating (in all its forms) is the hardest least rewarding (isk-wise) profession in this game....but my god it sure is fun.
