Also please stop saying "your" instead of "you're" and "their" or "there" instead or "they're".

I always found the exclamation point typo slash fad hilarious. Started with HELP!!1 because ! and 1 are on the same key. Then people caught that up and did it on purpose and you got HELP!!!1!!1!11`` and then HEEELP!!1!`~~~ and then they lowered the bar even more and started to type the numbers out so you got 'HELP!1`~oneoneonetwo' .: Click 2 See My Flash Animations :. |

well atleast the 'r' is right next to the 'f' so i can see how you can accidentally get that letter in there however the 'n' is nowhere near any letter in the word turret, so i can't understand how the **** that gets in there... that and the fact that turret doesn't sound like 'turrent'

yup that's painful. I also am pretty sure that Hemorphite should be spelt "Haemorphite" as in Haemoglobin. I also found a spelling error in one of the IG companies (Like Ishukhone, etc), wish i could remeber which one it was though...
I've actually always seen it "hemoglobin" in biology and chemistry texts here in the states. Probably because there is no ae character on our keyboard.

Yeah, but the states' spelling is illogical (And separate a and e characters are generally used).
The Prosthetic group on Haemoglobin is the Haem Group, not the Heme or hem group. It's HEEEEMoglobin not hem(As in hem of a skirt)oglobin. spelling it "hem" leads to incorrect pronunciation.
And most people in eve seem to have Tourettes Zomg!!!!1111111oneoneoneeleven

In english, and especially american english, you just append -es to the plural form of words ending with us. However, if you want to be a bit more old-fashioned and use a plural form closer to the word's origin, the plural form is actually -i with the -us removed.
But... latin isn't my strong point, so...

I point needs to be made here:
Demios (being the Greek for "Henchman") is a really good description of the Gallente blaster HAC and certainly better than Deimos (nothing but the obscure twin moon of Pheibos or something) so this is less a spelling mistake and more a phsycic extrpolation of the genetic memory from the days where Greek was the only civilised language to the obvious utility of this lovely ship.
Megatron is also valid as simply the german rendition of the term [sic]
What I cant forgive is the scouts who report: - he jumped meaning he warped off and vice verca - ammar elite frig (and if you are in a ceptor you wonder whether you are about to wtfbbq an ammar ceptor or be bbqd by an ammar AF) - warp to me (I am famous, also known as the Voice) - he is aggressing me... oh! he jumped ( ) - clear the channel! enemy shuttle in (25 umps away - our 50 BS fleet needs to hurry if we are to catch this one) - RA fleet in next system (so what? they ll log anyway man!) etc

You mean obscure as in Deimos - one of the two moons orbiting Mars, the roman god of war?
Also, "warp to me" works EXTREMELY well for me ^_^

Deimos is Eris (Discordia) brother iirc. And it means "panic".

Twin moon of = the other one is the other moon yes obscure = deimos has not survived as a term while demios has warp to me = works for you cause you are famous \0/ and cause MC is a really small group that doesnt take to many new recruits. If you had just joined an alliance and was in fleet with 100 peeps and you were 1 of 20 scouts it wouldnt work for you (I mean "warp to me" yelled on TS not "warp to me" nicely posted in gang chat)

Warp to me worked in Xetic, too.
Anyways, I've never heard of "demios" before, but since I am rather interested in mythology and astronomy, well, I have heard of "Deimos" on many occasions.
Also, the Gallente naming erm... rules... implies that Gallente would choose names from ancient (mediterranean) mythology, not contemporary languages.
You also reminded me of another word that annoy me: Diemos. Some people even say it dii-EE-moss on TS.

Deimos (=not sure) was the twin bro of Phobos (=fear), both sons of Mars (not roman god, greek god of war, well the name is Ares actually -> later Mars in roman) and now twin moons of the planet Mars.
Diemos (maybe deriving from deimos-be back with more info later) is indeed just the greek word for henchman and not a name, so u couldn't possibly see it in any history or astronomy book ;-)

I thought it was funny when I looked up the pronounciation of "deimos" and found that everything I was hearing on TS was correct. "di-mos" "de-mos" and "die-mos" are all correct according to dictionary.com.
Oh, and the plural of bonus in english is bonuses, take a look in a dictionary...

Edited by: FFGR on 24/02/2006 16:49:04 Greek mythology lesson :
In Greek mythology, Deimos ("dread") was the personification of dread. He was the son of Ares and Aphrodite. He, his brother Phobos, and the goddess Enyo accompanied Ares into battle, as well as his father's attendants, Trembling and Panic. His Roman equivalent was Formido or Metus. Asaph Hall, who discovered the moons of Mars, named one Deimos.
Deimos (or Dimos) is also a normal name in greeklish (greek typed in latin characters)
Most gallente stuff are from greek mythology, as the Romans had copied a lot from the greek culture when they conquered the many city-countries of that time residing at the place we call today greece (I payed too much attention at history class, sue me )

Originally by: Kai Sheia where do people get the idea theres an N in the word "Turret"?
I'm guessing it's two things:
1. people tend to type in bursts approximating morphemes, rather than letter by letter (in the same way that we read by recognizing shapes of words rather than letters.
2. words ending in 'rent' (rent, torrent, current) are more common than 'ret' (um... 'fret'? 'regret'?) so when some people get to the end part of 'turret' they just add the 'n' without thinking.
I've got nothing to back up these suppositions, they're just a wild stab in the dark.
Bugs the crap outta me too btw.
