Hello everyone,
It's time once again to start getting ready for Christmas...
I am happy to see that there are people working toward a goal of spreading some cheer this season as shown in the post located at: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=293660 and while I do not know the person, I applaud their effort if it is an honest one...

"Yes, I'm an alt of a character in EvE who remembers when the player "Holiday Spirit" took his/her time to make the EvE universe a little brighter for some folks.
My main was one of the folks who benefited from Holiday Spirit's kindness and he, his corp and some friends would like to continue the tradition of sharing with others during the Christmas season.
I will be somewhere in the Metropolis region as Christmas approaches and will be giving away small trinkets, "Christmas presents" (if you don't mind me calling them that) in an effort to spread some kindness and cheer to my fellow capsuleers."

"It was a great feeling for me to watch local in 2010 while the character "Holiday Spirit" gave out trinkets, ships and nick-nacs to the players who visited that system, the conga lines outside, the chatter in local and even the concord ball of death that permeated the system brought a smile to my face.
As a new-ish player to EvE at that time(how many years does it take to no longer be new-ish to the game?), I really enjoyed seeing the folks all getting together, some for the fun, some to grief and some hoping to get a free gift from that Holiday Spirit guy in the station, almost all of the wonderful complexities of the EvE universe were present in the system that evening, pirates, carebears, laughter and tears.
it was beautiful and heartwarming.
I have never forgotten that event or the knowledge of the one prior to that, yet alas, I have been unable to contact the "Holiday Spirit" character since then to make good on my offer to help him with his next event, so this year, I made this alt and I have put into motion(after talking with CCP about my idea) the following event of my own."
This year, I plan on doing it again and since some folks missed the event due to having it on Christmas EvE last year, I am going to do it on Saturday, December 14th this year in order to ensure that everyone can come if they want to.
EvENT Specifics:
Hint: the event was in "Metropolis" last year, it will not be there this year....
I will be logging in every so often to accept contracts for items (only in .5 space or higher) and to send contracts out to the alliance that is helping transport goods for me.
Don't just assume that because a locator agent finds me in one system that I will be holding the event there... :) save your iskies, I'll announce the location here in this thread the night before.
As was done last year, if you would like to donate to the event, you may send items, or isks to me and if you send items, I will have them picked up and transported to the event location, if you send isks, I will use those isks to cover the costs of cans to put the items in, or for buying things to add to the giveaways.
My intent is to retain nothing for myself from these events, or for my main, I'm simply wanting to continue the task of spreading the Christmas Spirit and the idea of Goodwill Toward Men.
To each and every one of you who donated last year, I am still amazed by how much you gave of yourselves, you will always have my unending gratitude, and to those who would donate this year, I thank you all in advance.
We found the rookie ships last year, so the battle will be on again this year and with any luck CCP will give us our own arena to use :P

This Event was incredible awsome to watch after I opened my gift- (A Domi BPC). Everyone seemed to have a blast and for once pple weren't shooting each other.
I'll find something cool to donate to the cause.

I'm "okay" with a less than stellar Christmas from CCP this year... especially after getting those T2 BPO's last year... and the Vangel was a nice stocking stuffer.
No idea what all the "good kids" got... probably a lump of Carbon they paid too much for in a Contract.
Nor do I care... it's all about me.

Not really.
I don't want or expect people to send me anything, however, if a person wants to donate something, they are welcome to, either items or isks, if not, they aren't required to, I already have gifts to give out, they are put into cans so that even I or the people who help me pass them out don't know what a particular person is getting, all we know is the size of the can, that's it.
we had over 100b isks worth of gifts last year, it was a blast!!!
if anyone has any questions, they are welcome to ask folks from last year how it worked, I'm sure they won't mind sharing their experience with you.
Since folks do need to be cautious of scams, a 3rd party holder of a gift is fine too, just donate a voucher (bookmark) with the info needed to claim the item and I'll put that into a can and give it out.

This year the first time I heard a christmas song at my local supermarket was november 16. That's well over a month before christmas.
We should start talking about christmas around december 16 instead of november. |

interesting enough but getting coal actually was a good thing when St. Nick was alive.
That is how he would know to leave presents...
he would go around and see which homes did not have any smoke comming out of the chimney. (the ones who were too poor)
He would then Leave a bunch of coal and some basic presents for the families.
Though i think with the commercialization of christmas the coal eneded up being a bad thing.
Interesting how once something was good ended up being a bad thing.

yeah, I was going to wait until after Turkey day myself, but I wanted to try to get CCP involved a little early for planning.
seems I should have contacted them sooner.
I find the whole commercialization of Christmas bothersome though, it detracts from the real things that we should focus on like goodwill toward men, remembering the sacrifice made for us and the spreading of glad tidings and goodwill toward our fellow man.
I understand that EvE is a harsh place, but still, we are all human and I know in my heart that we can set aside our differences for one short period each year and share with our brethren the joy of the season.
I saw some of that last year and for what small part I played in bringing that to fruition, I was proud and humbled, filled with Joy and satisfaction and I owe it all to those of you who live in New Eden.
OK, LOL, enough of the soapbox...

I must say that there are some aspects of Christmas that would be great to have around all year, but none of those are the commercial aspects of it.
So it looks like tomorrow CCP is going to make an announcement about the event, so, pass this around to all of your friends and let's get ready for the 14th!!!!!!

It would be impossible for me to make it an all day event since there are only a couple of us actually "doing it" and because of that, the original plan is to start at about 6 :00 PM EST (11:00 pm EvE time) and go until we either run out of gifts to give out, or fall asleep at the KBD...
I'll see if my helpers want to start a little earlier and I'll post the time here in the OP if they do.

OK, a brief update:

I never thought I would make news there, or anywhere else when I started this.
next, I have received several contracts so far with some nice modules and blueprints as well.
there's even a Tech 2 frigate that's been donated with a great fit on it, and many more items.
Currently, we have stuffed over 300 small containers with modules, BPCs, drones and other items and we aren't done yet.
Thank you to everyone for the donations so far, they are en-route to the event location now

Tonight saw the evening of Giving in the Gamis System, and what a night it was.
Billions of ISKs worth of presents were handed out, dropped, hidden and scrambled throughout Gamis by Santa Spirit, his helpers, and even some random people who just felt like giving.
It was a great event, a great laugh, and definitely put the residents of New Eden in the Xmas Mood.
I must thank Santa and his helpers for my Aura Warp Core Stab and Core Probe Launcher bpc's
and hope the recipients of the Imperial Slicer, Succubus and 2 Genolution Core Aug CA-3 implants i gifted enjoy their gifts. |

I made out well. I always wanted an Abaddon. Pretty sweet.
The local chat was lively and entertaining too. A lot of people stuck around after getting a gift. Throughout the event the system had 150-200 players in it, coming and going.
Things lasted a pretty long time. I got there at 6:00 PM EST and probably got a present by 7 or 8 or so. Not bad for a "soft start" at 4:00 PM EST. I heard the was as snowball fight and fireworks fight. Sadly I missed it.
Tip: Give back the boxes (cans) to Santa. That is all the more resources that can be put into gifts for next year.
One thing: A lot of people (myself included) asked how to get a gift from Santa.
Here is how: Dock in station and set the message charge to zero (under EVEmail settings).
Common sense really, but I honestly thought I would have to do more. |

Once again I am sitting here writing a "post Event" message to say thank you to all of those who donated, helped and attended the event.
Technically, between items, ships blueprints and cans we gave out thousands of items, we had ship scrambles, can scrambles, a conga line to distract folks from the orca dumping out presents and of course the rookie battle... (note to self, don't put the mobile tractor unit out until after the battle starts next time, it steals the trit can before you get started)
We had an Easter egg hunt of a sort in the belts looking for things that might have fallen out of the rip in my goodie bag, over 250 small secure cans outside of the station with gifts in them and at one point, i think we even exceeded 225 people and maybe even a few more in system.
and while I got the 100b figure from EvE mon last year, it's been buggered for a while on prices, so I have no idea how much the total value of everything was this year except to say that I'm fairly sure it was a good number based on seeing every item as I personally put them into cans prior to the event.
All of those statistics are great if you want to crunch the numbers as in XX presents / XX happy campers + XX level of interaction = WIN or LOSE
Fortunately, being Santa, I have the ability to see beyond that.
The Grinch was there and we got to literally see his heart grow and the spirit of Christmas giving take over his soul, we had people running around with suspect timers who were NOT being shot, people were linking their presents in local, laughing, talking and giving things to other folks as well...
I saw folks who came last year showing up and talking about last year, I saw folks who were just a few weeks old getting things they'd never seen or thought of, I saw folks helping each other with advice, mods, techniques and even ships.
I saw the spirit of Christmas and goodwill toward man........
I kind of jokingly told someone in local that there was a little bit of me in everyone and that all they had to do was set me free and watch the magic.
I didn't realize it at the time, but as I watched, I saw that magic at work and it was good...
I thank you all, and wish you all the Merriest Christmas possible with glad tidings and Joy for you and your families.
