As some unfortunately had to bare witness to yesterday, a certain unnamed CSM decided upon viewing someone's post as ignorant that he would humiliate that person in the public eye. Through a set of childish posts that one would come to expect from elementary school students, he continued to bash this innocent poster to the point where even the Goons began chiming in on how inappropriate they found the comments.
This is not the first time this has happened. We already remember the incident involving the high-sec miner 'The Wiz'. A CSM member spent his spare time preparing a powerpoint presentation for the sole purpose of humiliating another player. He then flew over to Iceland to present this humilation in the public eye, showing no regard to how it would affect 'The Wiz'.
The result was a removal as CSM and a 1 month ban. Not bad, really, not bad at all. He deserved a permanent ban if you ask me or at least a steeper punishment but alas, at least you guys did something.
Now let's look at what happened in the thread, titled Regarding E-YJ8G last night, and compare it to the first incident
The CSM involved in the Wiz incident: - Thought something very negative, mean and abusive about another player - Decided those thoughts were worth the world hearing, and presented those thoughts without any regard to the other person - Presentation of such thought held no actual purpose and was simply an attack on the other person
The CSM involved in the E-YJ8G thread last night: - Thought something very negative, mean and abusive about another player - Decided those thoughts were worth the world reading, and posted those thoughts without any regard to the other person - Posting of such thought held no actual purpose and was simply an attack on the other person (in reference to posts 2 and 3 made by the CSM in question)
Those seem eerily similar. Explain then why this CSM is getting off like he's just any other forum troll. He's not, he's a CSM member and thus needs to be held to certain standards. If those standards are not met, CCP has the right to revoke his CSM status. Just like they did in the Wiz incident. Fact is, the CSM in the E-YJ8G thread has disobeyed rules 1, 2 and 4 of the Terms of Service. That is reason in itself for CCP to remove his CSM status.
Instead, all of his most distasteful posts have been removed, as well as posts trying to rally people up against him. Those that remain have been edited by ISDs. That's right. If you said, "This guy does not deserve to be CSM, let's push for his removal guys", your post was likely removed. I'm not sure what the motivation was for it; maybe they just wanted a clean thread. I get that. They are still sweeping this under the rug and conveniently, no controversy to deal with.
Well CCP, I'm here to say enough is enough. I am sick of fully grown men coming on the internet and mistreating other fully grown men for no reason other than trying to look cool over the internet. I am sick of fully grown men coming on the internet and mistreating other fully grown men for no reason other than feeling better about themselves. I am sick of fully grown men coming on the internet and mistreating other fully grown men for whatever reason it may be. It runs rampant in your game, more so than any other community I've ever seen.
Your hands are tied many times, I do not expect you to ban every single griefer or jerk that plays the game. I do expect you, however, to take action against any staff member that does act in this pitiful manner. The same applies to players involved in the development of the game. You fly these guys down to your headquarters and treat them like gaming kings, allowing them to sit at a roundtable and discuss the future of the game with the makers themselves. Hold them to a standard then. The CSM in question hasn't just made a slip of the tongue; he has done something that no respectful, considerate, dignified human being would ever do.
CCP, I sincerely ask you remove his CSM status for this and stop deleting posts/threads about this in an attempt to cover it up. I urge everyone who agrees with the sentiment here to push along with me; don't let monsters get away with being monsters. Show them what the price is.
EDIT: I would like to add I have taken screenshots of the posts the CSM in question made before they were removed/edited. I am not sure if posting it is a violation of the rules though. If it can be confirmed that it's not, I am more than willing to post them, as they paint the exact picture I've described above. |

You're assmad about Malcanis not taking random, entitled whining seriously, and that entitled whining is one of the most obnoxious aspects of being a CSM.

The least Malcanis can do is follow the forum rules about personal attacks. He's smart enough to work within the rules.
There was a Blog Banter about "lines in the sand" and a recent revival of the topic in various blogs dealing with the treatment of women and cultural minorities such as Jews. Perhaps some folks need to pay attention to the blogosphere "echo chamber" and realise that the opinions of the "echo chamber" wouldn't be there if the opinions weren't already extant.
Just because he has the benefit of echoing his sentiments in a moderated environment doesn't mean Malcanis has no responsibility to behave civilly towards other players. He doesn't have to be nice, but he could at least not be over-the-top offensive.

You're probably referring to Malcanis, eh? For your information, people who voted him in knew how he was before he was elected. If CCP thinks he is doing something wrong, I am sure they would attend to it. But since they haven't, and he has been being himself ever since elected, I don't see any issues. In fact, in the next CSM, I am going to vote for him if he runs again because I like how he tells people how it is, even if they feel it's rude and insensitive.
Looks like you're barking up the wrong tree OP. I have seen nothing anywhere saying you have to be a nice person to be CSM. I propose censoring the OP for starting a rant thread, which is against the forum rules. *removed inappropriate signature* - CCP Eterne |

FTFY you definitely don't speak for me, or many other people who play Eve, if you did, you'd be on the CSM.
Another thread from a shiny new forum alt whining about Malcanis being blunt. We elected him precisely because of his bluntness, if the OP and and all the other detractors don't like it they have a few choices :
- HTFU and deal with it, he's not going to change.
- Put forth their own CSM candidate who will pussyfoot around peoples delicate sensibilities.
- Use the block post by function that is freely available on the forums, if they're unsure how to use it, they should ask Harry Forever, he's an expert.
- Complain some more and be subject to more ridicule.

I've always thought it hilarious that, given the various rules of EVE, if you had said "Biomass" instead of "kill himself", you would have been completely in the clear.
But then, there is the incredible amount of tears poured forth for your "victim of cyberbullying" on third party sites, that I wouldn't really have it any other way.

Turns out it was Riverini of EN24 who ran around to the gaming media on an anonymous throwaway email yammering about 'cyberbullying' instead of 'drunken inappropriate joke'; he was quite keen on the chance to take me down, and spun the whole thing as an intentional, serious plot rather than 'whoops jagerbombs'. That's why the scandal broke on Sunday, even though the incident was on Thursday; Massively's little Eve columnist took it and ran with it, and voila.
I don't think things went quite as Riverini expected in the end, however. ~hi~ |

I must agree. IMO, he was fishing for a lifetime ban. Instead, you ended up with more time to tend to your duties as King of Space.
But really, though, there are comments across the internet calling for your irl lynching. One must laugh at the hypocrisy of calling for the public execution of someone for "cyberbullying".
I don't suppose you've read the Cracked.com article on you? That has some of the very best stuff on it. He compares you to the Eifel Tower of douchebags.
Although oddly I tend to find this kind of thing primarily offered from people who don't really know what EVE is, or how it works. "Blowing up another player's ship! Egad!", it's still very interesting to see just how stupid the general public is.
Also, nice talking to you, hi, I'm Kaarous, big fan. Totally don't hold the "death of BoB" thing against you, either. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

And I'm not really seeing the problem. Malcanis said something harsh as part of his self-proclaimed "I don't coddle stupidity" style. Most of the time he's right, but the problem is when he's wrong it makes him look really bad. And yeah, this was one of the times he was wrong.
Next time just report it and move on, i.e. don't feed the trolls. Otherwise, the internet probably isn't for you.

In any case, I want to remind people three things : 1- A vote is binary. Either you vote for someone, either you don't. You cannot endorse every part of one's personality just by voting for him. And maybethe a person elected was just the least worst of the lot for instance. 2- For someone that litteraly has CSM written on his face (avatar actually), you are right to expect, not a denial of his personality, but at least some effort to show the good example and to be constructive. (ihmo he was constructive in this case.. Somehow) 3- ISDs intervened in his posts so maybe we are not delirious when we say that he went too far. G££ <= Me |
