Can a POS's gun batteries be placed inside the shield and still target anyone try to attack?
Just seems to me like it wouldnt be able to, because of the fact that i cant target anyone inside of a POS shield.

Guns must be in the sheild to anchor them. If I recall right the tower itself does the targeting, but then again I have never been shot at by one to know that firsthand.

The guns can be placed outside the shield. I forgot the distance you can place them exactly, but I think you can put them up to 50km away from the tower. It might be advantageous to do this to prevent people from sniping your pos from long distance. However if the guns are outside the shield they can be targetted and destroyed. Most people put them inside the shield so this won't happen. The guns actually target ships independently from the tower. Which could be a problem if a large amount of ships are attacking.

Is this true mainly for small and med. POS or can it be done with a large tower also. I don't remeber that being the case but sounds like it has been changed since I last set a POS up.

We currently have all our guns outside of the shield, and that was my concern was someone taking out the guns then being able to sit and take down the shields as slowly as they would like with no resistance.
Thanks for your replys.

I dont know why anyone would put them outside... seems stupid heh... if you need range you have it some guns can get 500k + easy I think.. lol and only a 300k ish activation range

There are reasons to deploy guns outside. The 'short range' (Blasters, autocannons, pulses) guns have sickening DPS, but 90km activation ranges. If you deploy a 'globe' around your tower at 50km you create a sphere 140km across in which those short range guns can tear things to shreds. (especially when they're separated by 30km each, so get good relative coverage). Anything further out from the towers are thus easy pickings (low tranverse) for the long range guns. (Artillery, Railguns, Beams).
The only real drawback of this approach is that with T2 ammo/cruise missiles, combined with a 249km locking range on the tower (which TBH I've not got as far as confirming), means that you can snipe the batteries at 200km and be safe from the tower.
However your 'average' battery has 100 dps of shield recharge, so it's not all that soft a target. -- We are recruiting
