I have noticed while mining in my Venture, that the big mining rigs seem to ignore massive scordite and dense veldspar which are what I go after. Is there a reason for this behavior? They seem to go exclusively for the lower grades of ore. Thanks |

1) they want to chew a larger rock that will give them full cycles on their strip miners. 2) they need one mineral type more than another, and for some reason they find it more worthwhile to mine what they need rather than the highest value/m3. There is never a reason to use this in hisec. 3) you calculated something wrong 4) they are dumb. probably bots ... but that's me just being a cynic. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

What is "most valuable" changes daily. Around mission hubs, plain old omber and kernite are used for a number of storyline missions, so those ores have a disproportionate value to their mineral content.

Barges and Exhumers are a lot slower than Ventures, so they'll mine everything that is in range, preferring to move little, instead of zipping around and grabbing all the 10%-extra-value roids. |

Even in a barge I mine the higher quality stuff first. It's not hard to warp to the planet and back to a bookmark. This is for solo mining though, if it's a boosted fleet grab everything in range and just strip the belt.
Could also be used to ore sites in null sec and might honestly not know what the higher quality types are. |

Scordite and Veldspar ARE among the lowest grades of ore with Omber. Sheesh. "He has mounted his hind-legs, and blown crass vapidities through the bowel of his neck."-á - Ambrose Bierce on Oscar Wilde's Lecture in San Francisco 1882 |

That is not why. The amount used in Storyline Missions is just a drop in the bucket compared to what is used in actual manufacturing.
Negligible, in fact. "He has mounted his hind-legs, and blown crass vapidities through the bowel of his neck."-á - Ambrose Bierce on Oscar Wilde's Lecture in San Francisco 1882 |

Yes, it is bots. They have to specifically make complicated alterations to their software, which they feel is too much trouble for only the couple of higher grade rocks that are usually available.
I've busted 3 separate botting groups of 5-6 ships each over the past 2 years where I am and they never ever take the 5 and 10 percent more ores. It may be that the ignored astroids are too small to bother mining. My strip miners gather over 10,000 m3 per cycle so I generally only target 'roids around that size or larger. Its possible to deactivate miners part way through cycles, allowing you to harvest the smaller 'roids without wasting time, but its not very efficient on your capacitor. |

How do you pull in over 10k m3 per cycle? I have max exhumer skills, 2 t2 mining upgrades and +3% implant and only get about 6k m3 per cycle in my hulk with t2 crystals |

NEWS FLASH
when mining small roids
if u use mining drones to assist you in cycle control, (1 drone per laser used) you will not waste any time as the drones will pop the roid before the laser cycle is over. letting you move on to the next roid, instead of waiting for an empty roid to pop. |

Hoary sheet that's fantastic.

Ding ding ding, answer is #3, OP calculated something wrong. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

i used to do cherrypicking, then i found that its better to just eat the hell out of the whole belt....you loose time travelling just for a handfull of roids, better to mine as much as you can and leave it in the station... |

Whenever I mine I grab all the roids within range and do my best to pop the belt. Each Orca trip nets me near 27 million ISK and on weekends I do 4+ trips a day. Every little thing she does is Magic. |
