If we're still rendering frames but somehow not responding to input that could explain this.
Nothing was moving on the screen, and the client was not accepting any input. No chat, no camera wobble, no movement at all. Well, the mouse pointer moves. I was running 3 clients in a mining fleet, and it was the orca that froze. The other two ships could still put ore into the orca, and the orca remained in place, and in fleet, until I force quit the frozen client. I need to verify that the timeout works as it should on the Mac - it should have kicked in here. I'll have someone run some tests for me on Monday. Btw, do you play with audio on? Does it make any difference if you disable audio? Audio was disabled. I normally play sound off. I think once I got a freeze sound on. The music starts skipping, and stops altogether. Can you try something for me? I've added a command line switch to enable logging to file, to eliminate the need for LogServer and still allow us to get full logs.
Create a folder somewhere called evelogs, or something like that, then add /fileLogDirectory=path to evelogs to the command line.
The client should now create log files in this folder with full logging enabled. If you experience freezes with logging enabled I should be able to get some info on what's going on. You can get the logs to me either as attachments to a bug report, or send me a link to a shared file in EVE mail. |

Im a little confused. I tried entering this into the terminal app:
open /Applications/EVE\ Online.app/ --args /fileLogDirectory=/Applications/evelog
And no files were generated in the folder evelog that I had created. I got a feeling there are other steps I need to be doing as well. The Mac debug page in the wiki lists several ways to make different log files:
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Mac_bug_reporting
leaving me not understanding what you need to help with this issue. I'm not sure which, if any, of these are out of date. Nor which method you would like to see me use. What else should I be doing? http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Alright, I'll have somebody inhouse try this for me on a Mac - don't have one myself and have no experience on the Mac, I'm afraid. I just want to fix any and all crashes in EVE.
I guess the issue may be with the file paths - not sure how the file paths translate when running under Cider on the Mac.
Anyway, this is still work in progress - I want to overhaul any diagnostics we do so you, the players, don't have to follow convoluted steps so that we, the developers can get the info we need to address issues you shouldn't be experiencing in the first place. In the near future I'm hoping to have an interface either in the launcher or the client (or both) to control this logging.
So, bear with me and accept my apologies for using you as a guinea pig :) |

OK, I await new things. In the meantime Ill play with the monitor logging turned on. The logging I get from the shift-control-alt-m window. If I get a freeze maybe it will show something. I only get one a week on average, so it may be awhile.
Ive not tried it, but Ive heard you can get a freeze right away by having a Torrent running when you play eve. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Hi there,
Just in case anyone, like myself, was getting random but frequent freezes/crashes using 2 clients at once.
I turned the game to Direct X 9 mode via the launcher and it has been completely stable since.
Kind Regards

I got a log from a client that experienced a freeze. This was on an alt account. The log was made from the monitor window. Unfortunately, there was no crash log or python trace file as the client never crashed, but got frozen. (Actually there was a crash log file, but it is zero bytes long and empty).
I had three clients running during a mining op, 2 hulks and an orca. The client running the orca froze right after I had it warp to station. Just before the freeze the client displayed an exception. Getting an exception message displayed before the freeze is actually rare, and this may not be the actual "Mac freeze bug". But it is a bug with a freeze.
Bug report filed with "CCP Snorlax" in the title. Hope this helps. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I need to investigate further if any of the warning preceding this could explain why the memory runs out - there must be a memory leak somewhere. |

Memory leak, eh? Well, it is very common for these freezes to occur upon an action that results in a grid change. They can happen upon leaving a grid or arriving at a new one. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Well my constant freeze/wait/disconnects have been almost non existent for about ten days now. I thought it was sorted till tonight, while mid fight on a level 4 (close range battle in Angel base pocket of Worlds Collide). I notice I'm firing but the targets damage isn't going up, modules and windows become unresponsive. I added that line but it still hangs for ages then finally disconnects. It has on occasion seemed like it had frozen only to all flood back in at once (whoever hits whoever for so many DP's text flashes by very fast and targets take all missing damage at once etc).
Just happened again on a different character flying an interceptor, chewing up the AU's. I come to a gate and it just hangs there. clicking on the jump button just pops up a 'session already in progress' bar. clicking on any modules does nothing.
launcher was fine. I logged on with another account no problem, try to fleet up with myself and just get a 'whoever is not logged on so won't be much use to the fleet' text. Alt-tab. no they are definitely there, floating in space. alt-tab. leave fleet. Alt-tab. Ah, at last it's disconnected.
Stopped using the logserver as the freezes had stopped (and those .lbw files are quite big)
@CCP Snorlax did you get the bug report I sent from this character a while ago? .lbw file and dxdiag text etc. Anything show up? |

CCP Snorlax glad to see you're still looking into this type of freeze/crash. I haven't had a freeze/crash on docking/undocking recently, but I'm still running with sound disabled. Maybe I'll try re-enabling it and test when I'm somewhere safe like highsec.
I have had a full client lockup frequently when loading a very busy grid. In last night's fight in Z8R-PI, as I warped to grid, my client went grey and completely unresponsive for about 30-60 seconds. I was supposed to warp in to help tackle a Malediction, but I had to sit there on my hands hoping it would come back.

I'll try enabling that value. |

I did fix the audio related freeze when docking/undocking earlier this week. I have that confirmed from one player who consistently froze on undock when audio was enabled. Of course it is possible there are further issues related to audio, but if you've had problems with that in the past, please try re-enabling audio (I'd suggest undocking somewhere safe first!). |

Ive been doing more sessions with monitor logging running. I set the monitor to the memory tab to see if there was anything to see. With logging turned on the green line showing python memory slowly crept up. Total memory went up with it. Eventually the client got slower and slower, then crashed. It took about 2 hours. Turning logging off stops the slow creep.
When I had logging turned on I also had it saving to file.
So apparently the logging process itself crashes the client. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Sigh. This is one more reason for me to overhaul the logging system (luckily it's already high on my list). |

On the bright side the classic Mac freeze has not happened to me in quite awhile. The bug I reported to you was not the classic freeze as I got an exception notice first. And that one now appears to have been caused by the logging process. The classic freeze; the client just stops.
Ill keep logging and await issues. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I haven't read in detail all replies to this thread but I saw no solution posted. I will just describe what happens to me since the thread looks relevant.
I always play windowed mode, and sometimes will run up to 4 clients (usually 2). I have an OK PC at home (i7, GTX660, 12gb ram) and a laptop (i5, Georce GT525M. 4gb ram) that can barely run the 4 windowed eve. Both systems run Win 7 x64.
After Rubicon was deployed both computers started having the same issue. EVE freezes randomly on 1 client at a time (white pale screen over the game - "not responding" on the header and the "close program or wait to respond" windows message) I believe this happens when i click and alt tab "too fast" but it happens more often on the laptop lately even though i am careful with my actions speed - plus sometimes multiboxing requires a lot of clicks in order to stay alive. 1 client freezes the other remains unaffected, like i said, and the "frozen" character will remain in space and in fleet and will keep shooting at its target until i either force close the client or i connect another instance of the account. Its always the client i am "using" at the time that freezes or the client i am tabbing into. This has happened even when i run 1 single client windowed mode and it usually happens in npc sites (either mission or sleeper sites since that's what i am running) and when i actually click (when i do something not when idle).
I have 1 eve installation and launch all clients from the same regular launcher (slow as hell these days). Before Rubicon everything was fine, after Rubicon its not, please fix. TY

I have exactly the same symptoms as the above starting right after Odysessy, except I'm running multiple clients on Windows7 without using symlinks. The freezing would consist of one window greying out and not responding until killed - while this was happening whatever action I was performing in game would continue and I'd stay in game until I killed the client (the Windows Error was AppHangB1)
Originally, it was always consistently one particular user that would have the issue - and usually exactly after warping to a site with any sort of cloud on it. Thinking that it may be file corruption for that one users profile, I reinstalled eve.
Since the last couple of patches it has been consistently happening on every single user, and has occasionally started to happen while only one client was running.
FWIW I have run a memory test, cpu test and looked at temperatures in the system - all of which were running well withing spec.

I have the exact same issue, except for the following: only 2 characters/clients running at the same time + laptop has a GT540M card. This began to happen at the same time, i.e. after Rubicon.

I just started noticing one client freezing up while running multiples on the same machine.
I usually log in 3 accounts but the crashes have happened with 2. I do play with sound. I ran some PVP for a few hours and not one crash with one account logged in only. Every time I have had a crash it has been with two accounts logged in and me doing some sort of PVE in an anomaly. In fact I just lost a ship due to a crash. >< I have not yet crashed while doing PI or just flying around - it always seems to happen with targeting and/or engaging my drones to a target. Only my main account (first one logged in?) seems to crash. The others are fine. I have never had a crash like this in game before. I am running Windows 7 64 bit, AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series video card with 12.104.0.0 Drivers, and 8 GB of ram.
I have added the tag to the file you suggested. I am not really looking forward to testing it but I will try to do it with rats that do not scram :\ and see if I can get the output file you spoke of.
Let me know what else you might need but at least now I have an idea that it might be due to multi-accounts and I can work around that.
Thanks
