I think you might find that after Jan 1 2014 there will be little appeal in further Eastern expansion for the EU. Not just in the UK, either, Italy, France and Germany all have problems with whats happening now.
We (the UK) are the only people in Europe who are stupid/servile enough to actually implement and enforce all the crap that comes from Brussels so we only have ourselves to blame.

Personally US would be better of if they would stop mingling with foreign countries internal affairs. Would also reduce amount of people hating US and terrorism. Would be peace act of century i think.

$20bill is sod all - Spain has had more than Gé¼400bill in "structural funding" since they joined the EU. "Structural funding" = cash grants for those wondering. They ought to be a damn sight more grateful IMHO.
The EU is headed by Barroso who is a Maoist (oh wait he says he isn't now) and can be basically summarised as spread the money around until we're all as poor as each other.
All very nice when you're a recipient of the cash, not so great when your country has been paying billions every year for 40+ years without ever being asked if this is OK in that time. Add in mass immigration - the city I live in grew by 34% in the last decade and NONE of that increase was due to indigenous births - and is it any wonder people get sick of it all?
So I'm sorry that Ukraine isn't able to sort things out - I would MUCH rather have had you join than the Balkan states (Romania/Bulgaria/Croatia/etc) - but that was your only chance and its gone. Once another wave of Eastern European immigration hits the rest of the EU this January then any further expansion east will be halted for a generation.
This is way way way OT, mods must all be on hols :P |

The reason that happens is because we are one of two (IIRC) countries in the EU who have a non-contributory benefits system and you cannot discriminate based on country of birth. You are either an EU citizen or you are not. If you are then (with some delay) you get the money. Simple as that.
