With only 60 seconds notice before the emergency shutdown, it didnt give me time to move my character "out of harms way". Guess I could be in trouble if the server isn't back soon

Fair point, Serendipity.
However, the beginning of the end was indeed heralded by short-notice patches that, as you say 'broke more then they fixed'.
Ah, the days of walking on the worlds of Bria and Farstar are behind me now. One should remember the good times, but be wary of future ills.
To be honest, I'm not intending to compare the two but rather bring attention that Eve has (and will continue to) out-live that other, unmentioned Galaxy.

Yup, I just saw that. It's been pushed back to 2100. I guess they keep pushing back 1 hour whenever they need.
You want to know why I'm so mad about this? I do mean what I wrote in my previous posts, but the very fact that this status message is up telling us to wait until 2100 is really ticking me off.
This tells me that their development did not do an adequate job of testing this new patch. WTF is the new patch for anyway? I didn't see any differences at all from the previous one. The entire test process of the patch should be deployed to a development cluster (which they have) and tested thoroughly before put into production. Well, it's quite obvious that it wasn't tested well enough. Consider this: did they put sufficient time into actually developing this patch to begin with? Remember they just got done with a massive hardware upgrade recently that also required a patch so it seems that they were focused on that project. Here it is a couple weeks later and another one. Doesn't seem like a lot of time to me.

Originally by: Zarthax My first ever 2 cents on these forums, (yes, theres ALOT to read when new to the game)...
1: Manual patch is being proposed by my client, but what version to download ? (would help to have a nemed patch, instead of just numbers...)
2: PPL mention some text saying "hopefully at ....."... uhm, my client does not have tht text anywhere :S
3: The accusations against CCP and the downtime: Yes, a good buisnessplan would be to accumulate the lost game time, and extend the accounts duration period in the other end...(pay for 32 days instead of 30 in general, as there is a 1 hour shutdown pr day as a minimum) Still, CCP does a good job in notifying their players in advance of an un-sceduled downtime. Hey, they got new toys that need to be allignt propperly... remember that...
4: Hi EVE :P
1: If you load eve it tells you what version you are running in the corner
2: Dunno what's wrong there, look harder?
3: That's a bit silly, every MMO has downtime (well everyone i've played so far). It probably mentions the downtime in the EULA somewhere, I will go look it up.
4: Hi! :O
*edit*

Quick Question
Is it always like this, or does the patches usually run smooth and on schedual? My experiences with the server switch was good, so I kinda expected a neat 15.00 activation. But I got what was coming to me .

Edited by: Coveney on 02/03/2006 20:27:05 Flaming or not for me,
Geez, this is pathetic, i not a buff in the way that there system is set, but damn, i would give money to see all of the whiner, even the ones that know how it works to go there fix the problems themselves, no better way, applied at CCP to go work there and fix there problem because you seem to know frickly more then them.
I hate it when they patch and then we need to log out because there is another problem, hey ITS HUMAN doing the coding and all, even if they try and THEY do there best, thing can slip out. I pay like everyone else to play this and paid for other MMO, Eve is the best one i'v seen to try to correct a problem on the spot when they can, ask this to Sony for a change.
Another thing, if you are tired of that, stop whining and cancel your account. Read your EULA correctly.
Don't you have anything to do beside Eve? You pay to have access 24/7, do you stay up 24/7? get break and refresh yourself.
Don't like my post, don't give a damn. Flame, i don't give S!"/. In then end Its a game, its not your life, if it is, you need help really.

Aye on server status lol to them not making you pay for patches!
As for server down times, I have to agree that they are nothing compared to EQ or WoW. Yes they have to do it. Face it there is no business endevor(sp?) that doesn't 'reboot'. If you work in an office you reboot at the end of the day. YOU reboot when you sleep. Even an ER room reboots when then next shift comes in. It HAS to happen.
The only reason that it sucks so much is that we are capable of playing even when the servers are down, yes? Notice I didn't say able to play just capable.
So, the last word? It still sucks; what a ya gona do? They got ya by the short hairs mate.

You can always tell when its patch day. Servers down and a big mean post about how CCP is so horrible and what they "should" have done. Yet, everyone goes back to the game. The player base grows daily and you wont hear much more whining until next patch. Get over it. Quit being forumn pirates . CCP just completely replaced all they're server hardward, did a fine job at it I might add. Thats not something they HAD to do, they did it to improve the game for people like "But dont listen to me, im just another paying customer" who were complaining about lag. The Blood patch is introducing quite a lot into the game, including new bloodlines and quite a lot of other interesting updates. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. With every big patch, there will almost -always- be problems or issues. Get used to it. Now that i've voice my opinion, notice the flames I get for backing CCP up. Though honestly? I dont care Flame away.

Please keep in mind that there may be a high number of travel advisory pop-ups when the server comes back up. The 'grace period' on start-up has been extended, but it will need some tweaks over the coming days to find the right balance.

I agree with LeBob. You simply don't know what's wrong. The only thing we know is that they are fixing it. As far as I know, I don't know of any online game that does such a good job op supplying new content regularly, making their game balanced so regularly, and maintaining a high bug free standard. Frankly, I think you're all very spoiled with Eve and if you knew just about a little how hard it is to maintain a game like Eve 23/7, you'd know that the cost of going from 23/7 to 24/7 would mean at least a doubling of the fees we have to pay now.
Give them time, they'll get it right.
