The raven model is updated...yet and the new textures I'm sure will look spiffy but it still looks like the mario bros put it together. It's crap...redo it again. YOU ARE FAILING!!!

That is obviously a placeholder while they work on the new model. They had to have something in the game. If you look closely at the model in the ship window there are now little points of light off in space around the stump wing. Possibly outlining where the new wing effects will be. |

no it isn't. The model is updates simply awaiting retexturization. That is the new model. It has had some rear engine work done but that is about it...maybe some things were cleaned up. |

It's a new model. Look at the wingtips, the two command towers and the engines, there's a lot of difference to the Tranquility model.
Pity they kept that abysmal shape, though.
Seriously, if you must, design unsymmetrical ships. But please, at least try to keep the center of gravity somewhere sane.
I would have less problems warming up to the Raven if the larger wing and that cancerlike growth that looks a bit like an unfinished eight-pointed star from W40k weren't both on the starboard side of its hull.

Kinda agree, they did change the same type of shape from the scorpion, so I don't get why they can't do the same to the raven, maybe they will some time, gonna be lovely if they do, I just can't fly the raven with it's present design :S |

I've decided I like the Raven's new look and I'm glad they didn't alter it radically. There's a a kind of vague charm about its ugliness, like Sloth from the Goonies. |

Yeah the "New" Raven is a big disappointment. It's still the same fugly ship just with a higher poly count. A waste of resources really if you have a squint to see the difference between the old and new. |

I like it over the old version, yet as been mentioned, the right side is still very "heavy" with various parts that visually seem to give little sense in its role as a tank and torp lobber. Looks like it has always tried to be some kind of carrier. |

You *still* get people whining that they preferred the old scorpion model, so it's wise not to change a ship that seemingly 90% of highsec characters fly.

Raven never was the most beautiful ship, but hell it's the RAVEN we're talking about!
Or do you really want them to model it after its namesake? (like the Scorpion... :/)
Also nice to see not all Ships loose their asymmetry (like it happend/s to Scorpion, Crow, ...) and therefore can keep their distinct look, even when the model gets upgraded (what I really appreciate).
I still believe EVE looses a bit of its distinctive look and feel with every ship made symmetrical and more "mainstream"... |

It doesn't look the same.. :/
It looks a far cry better than the current raven. The thruster section was redesigned with harder lines and extended. All of the thicker/blockish lego components were refined and more streamlined.
Overall, the entire model simply looks MUCH better. There are countless small changes on it that combine for a fairly BIG DIFFERENCE.
The new model is REALLY nice looking.

Mainstream? We're talking about spaceships. The entire reason we play this game, and given that its one of the only missile only battleships it should be by popular demand Symmetrical. |

*sigh* I have to agree. Personally I love the new Scorpion model and I'd very much like the raven to get the same treatment, since Scorpions aren't used as much as they used to...
BUT, lots of people whined about the heavy redesign and so with the latest redesigns they're keep much more faithful to the original, which is a shame.
Imho they should keep the asymmetry like there is in the ferox, rokh, drake or naga... Asymetric placement of bridges, command centers and details, but the overall shape simmetric. It's just common sense in structure design.
Also... Since we're not getting missile launcher "turrets" and reworked graphics, could we at least get something vaguely resembling a fixed missile launcher on new models? At least I won't have to pretend that the ship is firing missiles from its garbage expulsion port =/ |

The Raven is one of the oldest and most iconic ships in EvE. For 8 years its been there proudly on game boxes and posters, and it has done it with damn grace.

Although I'm kind of hoping the Raven gets a full overhaul like the Scorpion did in the next (summer 2012) expansion, the fact that they went through the effort of updating the current model implies that won't happen.
The thing that bothers me the most with the Raven is how there's the core of a good ship in it, just waiting to be made:

With regards to the model, still looks ugly as a model, however its alot sharper and doesn't look dated anymore.

That wasn't the correct nomenclature by Sirinda, true. What he is thinking of is actually two things, center of mass and MOI (Moment of Inertia).
An asymmetrically designed ship would have a tendency to rotate about its yaw axis. In layman's terms, the darn thing would only fly around in a circle, never straight.
