I'm gonna install Linux later on another partition and see if I have any luck this time. Last time I tried it in 2005 it wouldn't even run...
Is it possible to run it using Ubuntu/Debian wine, so I don't have to compile it myself?

Currently EVE runs well ONLY under the cedega platform. Transgaming
Elfiger and a few others have been working with wine ( WineHQ ) but currently wine doesn't work with EVE without using a slightly older version + tweaks. Elfiger could give us an update here in case I'm all wet on this part, but I DO know that as of version 0.9.22, EVE will 'install', but will not play with a default install of wine.
You do NOT have to compile anything under ubuntu to get cedega to work. You need to make sure that you are using the nvidia or ati binaries (proprietary) and preferably the NVIDIA as it is at this point the far better video solution under linux.
Yeah, I use the nvidia drivers. I guess I'll have to pay those $5 / month for Cedega then... but before I do, is EVE actually playable without any major glitches?
I used to run Linux 100% before, but EVE forced me into installing Windows again :( Would be nice if I could go back.

I'm getting "fixme:d3d_draw:drawPrimitive Using software emulation because not all material properties could be tracked" and a black login window. Sound works... but what good is sound if you're blind :)
Wine from git + http://elfe.mine.nu/eve/linux/caption_eve.diff [hr] My old signature 404's these days... so it's gone. It doesn't really matter. It sucked. |

Actually, EVE "works" with the patch here. Wine 0.9.40, 0.9.41 and current git. However... http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7204/evebrokenrl4.png
As you can see: 3.8 FPS, eye balls sticking out, GL_INVALID_OPERATION... [hr] My old signature 404's these days... so it's gone. It doesn't really matter. It sucked. |

what gfx driver are you using? I got NVIDIA 100.14.11 and no such gfx problems
NVIDIA 100.14.11, amd64. Probably should have mentioned I run a 64-bit kernel. ---------------- My old signature 404's these days... so it's gone. It doesn't really matter. It sucked. |

Screenshot of the char creation process...
System details:
2.6.22 amd64, Arch Linux. Running wine inside 32-bit Arch chroot:
Quote: [i686] [anders@anderspc EVE]$ wine --version wine-0.9.41-217-g94e08ec
Wine 0.9.40 and 0.9.41 also tested. Same issue.
My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7900GT, with 100.14.11 drivers. If you need any more details I'll be happy to provide them... ---------------- My old signature 404's these days... so it's gone. It doesn't really matter. It sucked. |

Edit: wine-0.9.42-1-g54a84c0 (git with dll revert) is broken too

I had exactly the same issue as described here with a similar setup (Debian etch amd64, nvidia drivers). I was running the x86 Wine binary, and guess what I'd overlooked when installing my drivers? Yes, that's right, the 32-bit glx. Make sure to install the ...glx-ia32 package if you run a 32 bit Wine under amd64, this should fix it.
Argh! I already removed Arch64 and replaced it with Arch32... oh well, thanks anyway ;)
Good to know in case I ever install it again ---------------- My old signature 404's these days... so it's gone. It doesn't really matter. It sucked. |
