Originally by: Aethras Hello.. well i used to run without problems eve with wine (on a ubuntu 7.04 64), but with the revelations 2.1 update eve stoped working. I have reinstalled wine to the last version, removed de .wine dir and winecfg a new one, installed from scratch eve, and isno use :( i get this errors:
vlitzer@zolar-mc:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE$ wine eve fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x33fc34) stub! err:module:import_dll Library MSVCR80.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\bin\\python25.dll") not found [...] etc..
ive tryed to copy the dlls to several places (including windows/system32 but no use either.. anyone have a clue about this?
It's not Rev 2.1 but wine 0.9.42 that's the problem. It's already patched: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9099
Your options are: 1. Downgrade to wine 0.9.41 2. Wait for 0.9.43 (couple of weeks) 3. Get the source and compile it yourself.
Up-to-date eve worked fine for me until I upgraded to wine 0.9.42 a couple of days ago.

Originally by: Luzz Bightyear Lucky people, EVE kills itself at the splash screen for me. Just straight out crashes/closes itself.
What graphic card?
Originally by: Luzz Bightyear Worst part is it actually WORKED just minutes ago. Had to reinstall it because Wine decided to be a monumental *****, forcing everything to run in a 320x240 resolution. I did everything exactly as I had before...
You couldn't change that in wincfg (aka "Configure Wine" in Applications menu)? And it wasn't just a mis-click in Eve settings?

Originally by: Lix Titrax In your Display & Graphics settings tab, turn on Advanced Settings, and make sure your Color Depth is set to 24bit color with 8 bit alpha, and that your Depth/Stencil Format is set to 24bit z-buffer.
When the system's background gets scrambled, then you can press Esc to the settings, and set your Color Depth to just "24 bit color" and Esc out and your system should redraw fine for a while. When it scrambles again, just change the Color Depth back. That works fine for me.
Nice little workaround. The glitch happens very rarely to me and gets fixed by restarting the client - but this is nice. Thanks

Also, the little map in mission briefings, and under the F11 mapbrowser, always fail.
This has always happened under Wine as long as I have been running EVE under it. Apparently it is caused by the way the mini-map PNG images are formated or something along those lines. There is no fix for it as far as I know.
When I ran the Official Linux Client the mini-map worked fine, but for me that isn't really an option.
Yup. Have been using Eve via wine for > 2 years now. Mission mini-maps always were scrambled. Almost the last reminder that Eve is not runnung on Windows.
And agreed with the official version not being an option (at least not when I tested it months ago) compared to wine. Who cares about the silly little graphic in mission description when everything else (ok, right, except above mentioned bug re background) works perfect. The official client had very annoying bugs like copy/paste not working between Eve and other apps and some other stuff. --- ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

Edited by: Glengrant on 02/12/2008 12:03:14 EVE on Wine is usually rock stable.
But I had a number of lockups (client is still there but doesn't react anymore and I have to kill it) since QR. So either it's a QR thing - or a QR+Wine combo. In the latter case the official client might or might not be affected too.
What is a bit weird is that I either have a day with no problems (like yesterday) - or a run of lockups like one day last week when it locked up every 30 minutes or so. I had a run of 3 lockups in a row within minutes once - but that is an exception.
I didn't see any connection to high DPS or anything else that was obvious to me. On the days when I had plenty lockups I did roughly the same things (Missions, chat, corp stuff, market) as on the days when all was cool. Hm. Now that I think about it I flew an Eagle when I had at least most of the lockups and am currently using a Caracal (few or none since then). That's about the only change I can remember.
I'm running EVE classic via wine (wine-1.1.5) on Ubuntu 8.04 (with Compiz enabled - never had any negative effects due to Compiz). NVidia 7900 GS on Inspiron 9400 Laptop (DC2, 2 GHz, 2 GB).
p.s. I had 0 crashes at startup. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

Apart from the premium client being quite a bit more than "some highres textures", given that the wine developers have to reverse-engineer a big and complex api including "special" behaviour it's very impressive how well things work these days.
You have this in your wine user.reg? [Software\\Wine\\Direct3D] "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl" "OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo" "PixelShaderMode"="enabled" "VertexShaderMode"="hardware" "VideoMemorySize"="?" Replace ? with the size of your video memory.
