No comparison. People WANTED Duke Nukem Forever. The Devs we're just lazy with Duke Nukem and produced a **** game. The EVE PLAYERS didn't want CCP working on WOD. That's the difference. Umm... You're wrong. On both accounts: First, by implicitly stating that you speak on behalf of all EVE players, Second, by saying that EVE players don't want CCP to develop (c)WoDO.
Some do want exactly that. A few actually joined EVE to see what the company that might create the Game to Literally End Them All (tm) can do in terms of development, storyline, metaplots and the player experience. I didn't hear about EVE until WW merged into CCP. And when I heard that CCP was developing (classic) World of Darkness online, I knew what I wanted to blame any/all failed tests, jobs, marriages and lives on. I have cousins that have existed less years than I have been hooked on Vampire the Masquerade. I don't even remember their names!
So please, turn off your computer, get up from your chair, and sodomise your own face. WoD is gonna kill EVE in all the best ways. |

Unless your thread is limited to how 'awesum!' Eve Online is, ISD will lock the thread.-á You will find it is particularly common if CCP might have to make a public response to the thread subject, as opposed to bury it in the GM que for the forseeable future and then prohibit telling anyone what the GM said, if it's ever answered at all. |

WiS was supposed to be partially used as a technology testing platform for whatever was to go into WoD. Eve players decided to rebel and cut the legs off WiS and by extension WoD .. ie. manpower was pulled, priorities shifted etc.
Would be pretty awesome to have WoD, but I fear that CCP does not have the ability to do it anytime soon and if they license out the IP we'll likely end up with some horrible free-to-play gold-ammo bonanza ... so give CCP the years they need to sort Eve proper (they pretty much ignored it for far too long, hence the balance spam) so they can get some manpower freed up for extracurricular activities.
Eve is almost there, tiericide is on track for an early completion date and discussions about what null would be fun to hunt and live in has been picking up ...
In short: Patience. |

I don't really get WoD or the pop culture obsession with vampires, but I think EVE players are awfully selfish (and not in a good way) to demand that CCP only develop EVE and EVE related games.
CCP shouldn't listen to EVE players about WoD. If they want to develop another game, it's their money and they have the right to. Latest video - Pandemic Legion titan and supers killed |

HAHAHAHAHAHAhahahaaaaa.... ow my sides. As I recall people were borderiline exstatic back in 2006 when the White Wolf merger was announced, especially along with the clause that CCP will develop a WoD MMORPG. Don't know how many of those players are still around, but oh boy did we want it. I still want it. A lot. Will probably ditch EVE at least for a while in favour of WoD, which is possibly one of the reasons CCP's giving such a half assed effort in making the game.
I want it way way more than Valkyrie, because I don't want Valkyrie at all. I'll consume 1,5 kilograms of rice porridge in one sitting if Valkyrie ever makes back it's development costs, the money that could've been used to not lay off 15 people in Atlanta. |

With EVE in semi-maintenance mode, adding another large risky project onto their list should never be an option, following Incarnagate 2008. DUST turned out pretty mediocre, not far off the mark from EVE forum predictions that was made years back. Now it's just too expensive to just ditch without trying to recover some of the investments. Wonder if the DUST revenues atm is sufficient to sustain the dev team (on its payroll), infrastructure/assets and other expenses indefinitely - plus some extra to pay off the investment. If they're still bleeding, then it'll be almost like suicide to start on WoD.
CCP's best strength is in making space themed games (with spaceships), they have little experience elsewhere. The cumulative experience of running a living, breathing, spaceship themed universe over the years is not easily replaced by new hires - despite what some might argue. Diversifying into WoD will be another make or break attempt, my thoughts personally. If they've dismissed many of the core Whitewolf personnel, it might even turn into a half-assed attempt. It takes time to build another castle.
I remembered an article I read that talked about how Word of Tanks (WoT) came about from its CEO. "Do what you do best, especially if you love doing it". A fairly common sense phrase that applies to everything, not limited to gaming. I'm guessing EVE Valkyrie has the potential to turn into a World of Spaceships like game, but CCP, as usual, loves shinies in terms of tech. They'd get the game bogged down in technicalities and client issues than produce anything solid that .... you know, just works.

That last bit sort of reminds me why I could never really see how CCP could possibly believe what they had, as in actually had to show for, with DUST could attract any kind of large crowd. CCPs focus was never to make the best game possible. Their main push and marketing talk was all about getting in the console market and to make a game, that was impressive and experimental on the technical side. Every time I read that this is what I was reminded of. Mr. Burns and his words about his wondrous snow man. CCP was committing itself to produce something technically impressive, that on non-technical level looked and felt like a generic and mediocre scifi shooter. Like your typical naive MMO developer, that makes a WoW clone with a twist and thinks they've got a guaranteed hit on their hands. |

They were doing 3 major projects at the same time: Dust, WoD and Incarna. I always said they were biting off more than they could chew and that it would threaten CCP's very existence. With the Incarna drama, that prediction proved true and they have been recovering ever since. I think it'll be at least a few years b4 CCP starts looking at major projects again. |

Well, aside from that wonderful demo footage I got to watch at Fanfest...
DANG that thing was cool. You should have been there to see it. It was awesome.

A few points:
Most pop tween vampire fangirls will be horrified by World of Darkness, and will likely be primary targets for the bulk of the player base.
I sincerely doubt CCP is going to make a big deal about the exact level of development WOD is at, too many people start making idiotic posts trying to tell CCP where they can spend their money whenever they do. However I don't think development is on hold either. It was rather firmly implemented into CCP's last video about their product lines.
DUSTs last expansion was well received by the players, and I'm noticing YouTube is starting to see the trickle of fan made video's grow exponentially.
CCP never claimed DUST would start off big, quite the contrary actually. Their game plan was to start off relatively small, and slowly build (expansion after expansion) just as EVE has. We'll see if this develops as predicted, but it's starting to look like it may actually follow that course.
To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I would gladly split my money for CCP if they ever launched WoD, but sadly I think such a thing will never happen.
Man I would even buy the special pre-release collector edition with the devs dried saliva imbued fake vampire teeth that has a bit of smelly rotten tuna lodged in for 300$!!!
I could finally realize my dream of playing a brazilian tranny midget vampire of the nosferatu antitribu, but no, it will never happen. Inner Sayings of BrujoLoco: http://eve-files.com/sig/brujoloco |

Then again, I seem to recall that the Toreador could sparkle (sort of).....
They couldn't sparkle but they did have their Presence powers. Some of the art looked kind of "sparkly". I'm pretty sure it was invisible tho ;D.
I'm looking forward to the WoD game when it d+¬buts. I'm hoping it will look a bit like Vampire Bloodlines but with better graphics. |

Not everyone the wants WoD plays EvE
Veshta Yoshida wrote:WiS was supposed to be partially used as a technology testing platform for whatever was to go into WoD.
I completely agree.
As Malcanis said above.... It costs us nothing to wait. Anticipation is sometimes the best part of the process.

I have been waiting to play WoD since ccp and ww merged. I honestly think, if done correctly, it will be a steak in the heart of WoW for a lot of people. But then again it has to be done correctly. CCP does things there own way, it took eve many years to get where it is now.
My hope is dust and Valkyrie, will make back there money at least, then they can shift focus and get wod out. If WoD is popular, we all win, more income means they can work on and improve other aspects like eve. The only thing I fear, is ccp will launch WoD and it will either be a huge success so that ccp leaves eve slowly behind collecting dust. Or its such a colossal failure that it drags the whole company down with it. But, with the rabid fans of WoD out there, I think for a time it will see some very prosperous months. But we will see. |

Yup my thoughts exactly. My biggest fear is WoD hitting it off huge and Eve getting pushed aside. People, who talk, don't know. People, who know, don't talk. |

Actually, I think the trend for Teenage Vampires is finally dying out (where's the next Twilight-clone film coming from....nowhere right now).
I'm pretty sure CCP is aware of this.
