Click for picture of this idea [25k img]
As you can see the picture above explains its self, read below and maybe it will make more sense and why we really need it.
How this idea works: Normally you move your mouse over a character and you get the characters Image and position expanded about 2x to 3xà and that hole empty area only shows the users Name.
The idea ôquickinfoö is that when you move your mouse over a character in a channel it expands like before but in that space there you can fit all the basic essential info about a character.
The essential basic info would consist of the characters name and corporation, as well as if they have a bounty on them.
Extra info, such as the players security standing and your corporation standing could be places as well, as you can see in the above picture there is more then enough room still left.
New addition to this concept, is to use or integrate the colors that already show up on the scanner into the area that this idea goes, it would be in my mind the first step in implementing and testing of this idea. As always the minimal amount of information should be set by default in a settings tab to reduce lag and allow the individuals to add or take away any other bits of information they wish to view, or all together disable it on there client side.
ProÆs/ConÆs
PROÆs its ôquickö!! and simple, it works on the fly, you can check all the local people in a channel in a matter of few seconds visually, this can show friend or foe immediately as well as any players with low security that are pirates in the system. This also works great for corporations that you might be at war with.
CONÆs there are very few from the concept point of view. The only problems or challenges would be in the coding of this and implementation of the idea, in theory this is only a very small amount of data to obtain. There should be steps taken in the coding and concept of the idea to prevent any form of abuse or overload of the system a delay of a few seconds can be placed between each ôquickinfoö Also some nice algorithm can be implemented to optimize the loading of the information as well as automatic delay of the loading of data based maybe on the load and the amount of players to load, IMO it should be the visible players that you have on the channel, then slowly it should cache other individuals below your visible view.
The reasons for this idea are obvious, this idea will not replace the ôshowinfoö but merrily give an alternative to the current method which is slow, unlike this idea that is quick and short amount of information that is displayed that is very vital data about an unknown individual in a system. ShowInfo lags for many reasons besides the loading of the portrait, it shows in my own opinion too much useless info, esp about the default ship info that plus all the other information would cause the short lag/freeze when trying to obtain ôshowinfoö

This is indeed a great idea :)
Hope some Dev can look into it. Read the Rules Of Conduct and Terms Of Usage

I like this idea. And also an option to not generate the portrait, just show the info.

ya i have few other additions that others have said and that i came up with...
one idea someone else came up with was to add a stripe or something just like the buddy system for showing the security status of a person...
that would be like zero and + would be nothing to display... someone who has say -2 would start with yellow and someone who has -10 would be like really dark red... and everything in between yellow to really dark red... for the -2 to -10 support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

I wish a dev or someone could reply to this and tell us if this can be done with only loading few strings to see if there would be any lag or not?
cause it would be really cool thing to have. support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

I too like this idea. Let's hope that CCP adds this feature, I have wanted something like this for the longest time. Good job, Drutort.
PS, I would like at least a Corp War and pirate tag also visible from the list by default, then your idea, displayed with a mouse over too.

Cool idea. Everything that shortens the load times for that all-important glance across local is a good thing. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

thx for the support guys, i had ideas like this since beta... im just the type of person that gets idea's as things show up to me
i dont just stay there and try to think it just comes
i didnt want to bother too much with this idea since i had this posted maybe one or 2 months ago and it didnt get recognized as it should have been...
but now seeing that they are fixing bugs and are putting in a lot of new features and content etc... i said hey i think its time they look into this because its so simple and it just drives me nutz to have to go and do show info just to know like peoples corps and there standing and security rating...

there is already a option to NOT LOAD CHAR PICTURES in the GRAFIK option (ESC then GRAFIK)
but even when you deactivate it you still load the pictures.
they just need to fix that you dont load any char pictures when its deactivated (SHOW INFO on players included!) thats all ---------------------------------- some of my ideas: Very Long Balancing Suggestion !!! and My Ideas for EVE |

the hole hassle of having to click on show info then go to the other tabs is a pain... having that hole new window being drawn and stuff... and all that ship info that is all useless and other stats that are good but you do not need as fast
vs the idea we have is just a really fast blow up of very small space and showing core info
as the thread says its not to replace ôSHOWINFOö its an alternative that is a NEED for really fast when you want to check people in local and stuff, maybe you might not care who is in local but everyone who is other areas were its not secure you have to know EVERYONE who is in SPACE and on whoÆs side they are on.

I dont know but people like me had so many ideas since beta and they just die away...
if i was CCP i would get some either volunteers or hired people who would some what filter out and pass on the ideas to the dev's/ccp etc...
but i hardly see anyone come in from there area and comment on good and simple ideas that can be put into the game and tested within few days thats for sure.
