Hi, I just started playing the game a couple of days ago. One of the main problems I've been having is with the UI. I'm not sure where to put all the windows I use. Particularly the chat window. I don't like it when it gets in the way of gameplay, so I move it to the side. But when I dock, the toolbars on the sides in the spacestations cover part of the chat window.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good way to set the UI to make this less problematic? Perhaps some screenshots of an optimal UI would be good. Thanks. |

There are no UI modifications.
Here's a big hint: raise the resolution. It helps loads. Gives you more room.

Minimize windows when you don't need to view them. Simple as that. Lower the graphics settings and up the resolution, that helps too.
Griefing is to ruin a friendly game, which Eve is not. |

My resolution is set to the max that I can support, 1280x1024. I wasn't looking for any modifications, I was just wondering where everyone else keeps their windows, particularly the chat window.

as others have said, the best trick is just to minimise the windows you dont need at that exact moment, i allways place my chat window in the bottom right underneith my overview, other than that its not useuley nessacery to have anything else thats open constantley.
also remember if you drag one window over the top of anouther, you can 'stack' them, so they all apear as Tabs on the same window, allways do this for chat windows, and they'll take up far less space.
just as a side note - this is why i hate TFT/LCD/flat-panal screens - if i want a game running at 1600x1440 - i can

Holy sweet son of Moses - I did not know this.
Hopefully this will work for me!
Thanks

What useful windows stack besides buddies list onto the chat bar window ect?
I like to keep my cargo hold open at all times but it will not stack on top of the chat window.

I stack all of my chat windows and have them in the bottom left corner.
my Cargo hold if open is on top of the chat frame.
loot cans open generally dead center of my screen(I dont loot in combat)
what other windows do you need open in space?

You can also have windows open without blocking your view if you set them to transparent. Then you can see through them but the info in them is still viewable.
This sig for rent. Convo me in game. |

This is exactly my current setup and just wasn't sure if there wasn't a way to add more useful info, without taking up more room.
I also hit TAB to minimize my overview when not in use.

I use the transparacy alot. Have normal chat like corp/alliance etc in the lower left, above that I have local chat as thin as possible but fairly high and finaly I have my cargo in the upper left corner, as small as possible and in "List" mode". All of the windows are transparant.
Only running 1024x786 (largest resoultion that my monitor can run 85hz, less than that and I get headaces) so I am very low on screen area. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I usually have assets, people/places, and cargo bay stacked in the lower left, chat windows upper left or minimized, the can I'm mining into goes in the middle, and the overview stretching the length of the screen.

I tried that. If you put it under your overview it shows up underneath the station interface when you dock. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way reclaim any of that space that is tied up in the station UI.

Another problem we face (my wife and me are just about to enter EVE on 14-day trial) is that with supported resolution of our LCD screens which is 1280x1024 and biggest fonts in chat windows, its still a pain to read. There are 3 font sizes there, from 1mm to 3mm size fonts hmmm....
The introductory Aura mission windows, though, do not have adjustable fonts.
My sight is not that bad, and i work as computer engineer for years, but having to read fonts of ca 2mm size carefully for prolonged tedius times (like learning to set waypoints) is a needless strain on eyes and brain and goodwill.

If I'm running two or three missions at a time I'll use the tab feature to have the Journal and all open missions in one window. Helps a lot. Found the feature by accident
